June 19-23rd - THE SECOND TEST AT LORD'S

England leads the Ashes 1-0(6 tests).
Man of the Match: Glenn McGrath.

England's 1st Inn:77(G.Thorpe 21, N.Hussain 19; G.McGrath 8-38, P.Reiffel 2-17)
Australia's 1st Inn:7d/213(M.Elliott 112, G.Blewett 45, M.Waugh 33; A.Caddick 4-71)
England's 2nd Inn:4/266(M.Butcher 87, M.Atherton 77; S.Warne 2-47)
Australia's 2nd Inn:Did not bat.

DAY 5

Finally a day without rain but Australia couldn't get any early breakthroughs thanks to a fine opening partnership of 162 by Michael Atherton and Mark Butcher. Mark Taylor dropped a relatively easy catch by his standards to let Mark Butcher off the hook. The game ended in a draw which leaves England with a 1-0 lead after the first two tests.

DAY 4

Rain has all but ended Australia's chances to win this test but there was time for Matthew Elliott to make his maiden test hundred. He eventually got out for 112 with 20 fours. At stumps Australia are 7-213 with Ian Healy on 13 not out and Paul Reiffel on 1 not out. Australia need to make another quick 50 and then bowl England out cheaply and quickly as long as there is no more rain but the forecast doesn't look good.

DAY 3

Glenn McGrath today proved today that he may become one of the greatest Australian fast bowlers after he ripped through England taking 8-38 in his career best figures as England were bowled out for 77. The rain stopped play many times but there was enough time for Australia to move to be 2-131 at stumps with Matthew Elliott not out on 55 and Mark Waugh on 26 not out. Greg Blewett made a good 45 and Mark Taylor failed with 1. England moved back to their bad fielding days after dropping 3 simple catches to let Australia get away from them.

DAY 2

Rain caused havoc again today but not before Australia had England in trouble by having them 3-38 after the game started on time. But just as Australia were getting on top after 90 minutes of play, the rain came and washed out the remainder of play. Glenn McGrath was the wicket taker with 3-21.

DAY 1

Rain washed out the whole days play and also dampened Australia's hopes of winning this test to get their ashes campaign back on track.

June 14-16th - Australia v Leicestershire at Leicester

DAY 3

Leicestershire declared on their overnight score of 4-62 to try and get a result. Australia then made a quick 3-105 with Mark Taylor making 57 leaving Leicestershire with a target of 264. Australia won the match by 84 runs after bowling Leicestershire out for 179 with Shane Warne taking 5-42 and Paul Reiffel taking 3-49.

DAY 2

Rain once again gave the Australians trouble by stopping their much needed bowling practice. Australia declared on their overnight score of 8-220 and Leicestershire were 4-62 at stumps due to the rain and Paul Reiffel continued his good bowling by taking 3-12 off 10 overs.

DAY 1

Australia's batsmen didn't perform very well today and at stumps they were 8-220. Ricky Ponting made 64, Ian Healy made 34 and Shane Warne kept his good form with the bat and made 20. Justin Langer is not out 9 and Paul Reiffel is 6 not out.

June 11-13th - Australia v Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge

DAY 3

Australia used this day for batting practice since it was just a two day match due to the rain and they amassed 5/398. Matthew Elliott made 127 while Steve Waugh made 117 and Michael Bevan made 75 not out as the match ended in a draw.

DAY 2

Play finally got under way in this match and Paul Reiffel made an immediate impact by taking a wicket with his 2nd over. He combined with Glenn McGrath to rattle Nottinghamshire and bowl them out for 239. McGrath took 4-63 and Reiffel took 3-15 off 10 overs. Michael Slater didn't give his tour any help by only making 14 before being trapped in front. At stumps Australia is 1-51 with Matthew Elliot on 20 not out and Ricky Ponting on 15 not out.

DAY 1

There was no play today as the rain tumbled down all day without a ball being bowled.

June 5-9th - THE FIRST TEST AT EDGBASTON

England's 1st Inn:9d/478(N.Hussain 207, G.Thorpe 138, M.Ealham 53 n.o.;

D.Gough 3-123, R.Croft 3-125)
England's 2nd Inn:1/119(M.Atherton 57 n.o., A.Stewart 40 n.o.)

DAY 4

England won the first test of the Ashes today as they cleaned up Australia's tail cheaply and scored the required runs in quick time. Mark Taylor and Greg Blewett continued their partnership and scored another 71 runs before Taylor fell for 129. Greg Blewett made a magnificent hundred and he fell for 126. Steve Waugh and Michael Bevan each made starts but couldn't go on with it and Mark Waugh after being released from hospital made 1. Ian Healy and Shane Warne offered some resistance but couldn't stick around and Michael Kasprowicz and Jason Gillespie made ducks. Australia were bowled out for 477 with a small lead of 117 runs. England began their chase rapidly scoring at an average of 6 runs per over. Their only hiccup in the chase was Mark Butcher falling for 14 but Michael Atherton and Alec Stewart steered England to victory.

DAY 3

Today belonged to Australia and Mark Taylor as they staged a remarkable fightback after England had dominated the first 2 days play. In the morning session, Australia managed to take 3 quick wickets before England declared their innings at 9-478. Mark Ealham remained unbeaten on 53 not out and Michael Kasprowicz took 2 of the wickets to fall to end with 4-113 for the innings and Michael Bevan took the other wicket to fall. Australia then had the task to chase 360 to stay in this match and they began very well taking the score to 133 before Matthew Elliott was bowled for 66. At stumps Australia had moved to be 1-256 with Greg Blewett batting through severe knee pain on 61 not out and the man of the day, Mark Taylor, remained unbeaten on 108. This is his first century since November 19th, 1995 against Pakistan in Hobart. This century has answered all of his critics and it may even save Australia from an embarrasing defeat. Bad news for Australia though before the 3rd days play began was with Mark Waugh being rushed to hospital with suspected Appendicitis. If it is only a viral infection then he should be right to play tommorrow but if it is appendicitis then he will take no further part in this match.

DAY 2

Graham Thorpe and Nasser Hussain continued the attack on Australia as they went on to make 288 for the 4th wicket which is a record by England for this wicket against Australia. Thorpe eventually fell for 138 and Hussain continued his brilliant innings before he was dismissed for 207 which were both their highest test scores. John Crawley didn't stick around for long and there was some relief for Australia when rain stopped play with 78 minutes left for the day. Rain appears to be the only thing that can save Australia from defeat.

DAY 1

With one of the worst performances by an Australian side in recent years the Australian side were bundled out for just 118 thanks mainly to a 64 run stand for the 9th wicket by Shane Warne(47) and Michael Kasprowicz(17). The wicket takers for England were Andy Caddick 5-50, Darren Gough 3-43 and Devon Malcolm 2-25. England in reply are 3-200 at stumps with Graham Thorpe on 83 not out and Nasser Hussain on 80 not out. For Australia the wicket takers were Glenn McGrath, Michael Kasprowicz and Jason Gillespie with a wicket apiece. Jason Gillespie will take no further part in this match as he tore his hamstring towards the end of the day.

May 31-June 2nd - Australia v Derbyshire at Derby

DAY 3

In an extremely exciting finish, Derbyshire won this match by 1 wicket. Australia made 4-265 declared thanks to 104 not out from Michael Bevan and 62 from Brendon Julian to set Derbyshire 371 from 69 overs. They managed to get the runs with 3 balls to spare even though Shane Warne took 7 for 101. This was Derbyshire's first ever win over an Australian touring side.

DAY 2

Mark Taylor appears to have his spot in the first test as he is unbeaten at stumps on 59 not out. Australia managed to get Derbyshire down to 9-206 but they couldn't get the last wicket. Derbyshire added 51 for the last wicket before they declared at 9-257. Brendon Julian took 3-88 off 20 overs(was wayward at times) and Shane Warne appears to be bowling well as he took 2-45 off 14 overs. Michael Bevan also bowled very well taking 2-21 off his 9 overs. Jason Gillespie also took 2 wickets. At stumps Australia is 2-148 with Taylor 59 not out and Michael Bevan on 58 not out. DAY 2
