We must now move up
but not on
We must now remember
but not forget
We must see ourselves
but not be selfish
We must must open up
but keep some for ourselves
We must smile
but not smirk
We must hug
but not suffocate
We must cry
but not break down
WE MUST LOVE
but with no exceptions.
In Loving Memory of those lost at Columbine High School, 1999.
And In Loving hope for those recovering, remembering, and
helping.

Hope is a glimmer of everlasting light
That illuminates the heavens in the darkness of night.
This gift from God sets our saddened hearts on fire
As we lift our voices to Him with burning desire.
We cry out in sadness and in pain
For our dearest children have been lain
To rest on slopes of mountains high
That seem only inches from touching the sky.
"Why did this happen?" some have asked.
How did this tragedy come to pass?
What drove those boys to commit such horror?
Is it human nature to feel such sorrow?
These are tough questions for everyone
And the answers will come when all is done.
Time will heal your broken hearts.
God'll carry you through life-all parts.
Oh Columbine, now you weep
And your heartbroke minds won't let you sleep.
Oh Columbine, please bloom once more.
Let your light shine forevermore.
Dear students and everyone in pain,
Don't give into evil's gain.
Let your troubled minds sail away free.
Like a flowing river's liberty.
Look forward to the coming dawn
When the darkness of night is completely gone.
Look into the hills and see
The Columbines that grow there, wild and free.

Who will win this war,
The one we all talk about and await ?
We see it's precursors
Amongst the shocking and tragic headlines
Headlines from afar and not so far
And today it is the distress of those...
Displaced and disgraced
Ethnically cleansed or dispatched
Bombs dropping on the innocent or placed
in our schools
Our parents and children's priorities
heavily mismatched
And what is our reaction?
Does the WARNING need to be addressed
To each individual-each North and South
American, European, African, Asian and Australian?
To each individual Hindu, Muslim, Jew, Mormon,
Buddhist, Catholic, and Episcopalian?
Warning signs are like the onset of a cold..
Feelings of weakening, discomfort, and fever
Should we not treat the cause and not these
symptoms now before it is too late?
As we scramble to assemble the world's
answer for the treatment to be prescribed------
Peacekeepers, missionaries and negotiators
that will push and solve the dilemma
Psychologists, media gatherers, and religious
offering sympathy to those gripped in pain, fear,
bewilderment......
Let us not forget the treatment that is truly needed
Before our fates are sealed
Is to gradually attack the causes of hate and apathy
Of course, this has already been revealed..
That revelation is a path that shows us..
That just LOVE-EMPATHY-and PRAYER
Whose cures are extremely ample
Will mend our families and fellowships
In following Christ's example

all the shooting
all the pain
we only have ourselves to blame
we go to school
we tease our peers
all it leads to is their tears
they have enough
they get revenge
no one knew this i how it would end
all the violence
all the crime
be nice... we say we don't have the time
the rejection of the parents
the rejection of the peers
who would have guessed this would happen after all these years?
they were teased
they took lives
then they, themselves, had to die
we live in a messed up world
we live in a messed up time
everytime we turn around we're headed for crime
why do we do it?
why do we tease?
is it our own needs we need to please?
just two normal boys
just using guns and bombs as toys
now they took away all the parent's joys
we listen about it on the radio
we watch it on TV
but we can do something about it to stop the grieve
don't put anyone down
don't make anyone frown
say hi to everyone in town
you never know who is really hurting
you never can guess who is crying out for help inside
the next person you talk to may be thinking,
"If only I could die."

Could Have
By Wislawa Szymborska
Small Changes by Ian Austin
It could have happened.
It had to happen.
It happened earlier. Later.
Nearer. Farther off.
It happened but not to you.
You were saved because you were the first.
You were saved because you were the last.
Alone. With others
On the right. The left.
Because it was lunch. Because of the table.
Because the day was sunny.
You were in luck-there was a door.
You were in luck-there were no windows
You were in luck-a rock, a book, a beam, a brake,
a jamb, a turn, a quarter inch, an instant.
You were in luck-just then a piece of paper went floating by.
As a result, because, although, despite.
What would have happened if a hand, a foot,
Within an inch, a hairsbreadth from
An unfortunate coincidence.
So youre here? Still dizzy from another dodge,
Close shave, reprieve?
One hole in the net and you slipped through?
I couldnt be more speechless.
Listen,
how you heart pounds inside me.
