Rain falls gently from the sky,
As we give tribute to Columbine High.
In remembrance of that terrible day
When innocent lives were taken away.
Futures cut short, dreams come to an end,
Loss of childhood; loss of a friend.
Loss of a teacher; willing to give,
So that many students could continue to live.
It's not the weapons that should cause alarm,
For without humans, they could not harm.
It's the hate and revenge that lived in those hearts,
That could cause such havoc to tear lives apart.
Pointing fingers; many ifs, ands & buts,
But I'll tell you my friend, what really takes guts,
Is to keep on forgiving, with friendship and caring,
To offer new hope with love and with sharing.
We can't change the past or take away the pain,
But we can pray it won't happen again.
We can each strive to never forget,
That hate may harm, but love will win yet.
