As we look forward to another interesting and exciting year in 1999, Kolej Aman Batu Pahat will kick off this New Year with another publication of Kolej Aman Year Book. I am proud with the Student Association for their efforts, initiative and co-operation in coming out with fresh , informative and yet interesting materials for the 98 Year Book.
Congratulations to all the students involved towards the publication of the year book, for indeed, it’s a great and successful accomplishment for both the college and the students. Thank you for your invaluable contributions.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the management staff and all the lecturers for their unfailing commitment towards the college and the students. They have worked hard to give the students a high quality education, continuous support, practical advice and counsel in various areas. As Kolej Aman is striving towards providing the students a more enriching and rewarding experience here, their contributions are greatly appreciated.
And as for my dear students, I would like to encourage you to participate actively in the activities organised by the Student Association and Rotaract Club. You will find yourself experiencing a more meaningful college life, as these activities are to provide for the wider educational experience, to help you develop the wider skills which increasingly are so important in securing satisfactory employment in the future.
I really hope that these exposures will mould and shape you into a more mature person, and at the same time bring out the hidden talents and potentials in you. Always remember, success is measured not only by academic achievements, but upon choosing a high ideal at the very outset of life.
There is nothing grander in this world than to find a person dedicated to the task of self-enrichment, of making a life as well as a living, of bringing out the best that is within him. Self-enrichment is an investment that pays handsome dividends, for your life will grow richer and sweeter every day. This is enduring wealth. There is no man, no woman, so small that they cannot make their life great by high endeavour.
To conclude, I would like to quote this saying from Charles Dickens :
I have tried with all my heart to do well;
Whatever I have devoted myself to;
I have devoted myself to completely;
In great aims and in small,
I have always been thoroughly in earnest."
God bless you.
Dear students,
I can still remember the first time I came to teach in Batu Pahat many years ago. During those days, the lectures were conducted at the Chinese High School. The surrounding greenery and smell of laksa and fried meehoon still linger in my mind.
Time flies. It is almost four years now. I can also still remember the beautiful faces and enthusiastic smiles the first time I saw in the lecture hall. Through sheer hard work and determination, most of them have finished their course in Aman College and will be leaving soon for Nelson Polytechnic in New Zealand to complete their Bachelor Degree.
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate them for their success and wish them BON VOYAGE. May God bless them. For the other students, I would like to share with them, the recipe for success in their studies.
The formula is A. M. A. N.
Attitude: Always have a positive mental attitude (PMA). Never give up. Neversay die. Anda Boleh. I CAN.
Memory: Study hard and smart. Revise constantly to store up knowledge in the Long Term Memory. In psychology, the term used is Elaborative Rehearsal.
Attention: Pay attention in class. Don’t talk. Don’t daydream. Attention is needed to transfer information from sensory memory to short-term memory and then into Long Term Memory through Elaborative Rehearsal. During the three hours exam, information flows from long term onto your answer booklet. Remember N. I. N. O. - Nothing in, nothing out.
Nutrition: Eat nutritious food to provide energy for your bodily functions and brain power for study. Avoid junk food. As the saying goes, a healthy body makes a healthy mind. You are what you eat.
With this piece of advice, I wish you success
in your future endeavour.
Lee Kam Thong.

The Student Association is an association established specially for the students of Aman College. Any student who is studying at Aman College will automatically become a member of the Association. This Association is established to make friendly contacts among all the students, promote the spirit of helping each other and looking after the welfare of the students. Besides, it also helps the students to develop their planing, organising and management skills. Another objective of the Association is to conduct joint activities with other associations which have similar objectives amidst the development of the Association.
The members of the Association have the obligations to comply with the Articles and all the resolutions; pay the annual subscriptions, special fees and other donations ; help the association to hold all kinds of educational and welfare activities; work together to plan and promote the development of the Association; accept and complete any jobs assigned by the committee; defend and raise the reputation of the Association.
With the guidance of the objectives and the help of the members, the Association has successfully carried out a number of activities. Among them are mountain climbing, jogathon, trips, orientations, badminton competition and spring cleaning. All these activities have received great response from fellow members.
The Spring Cleaning of Aman College for the year of 1998 was carried out on 30th May ( Saturday ), at 2.00 pm sharp. Many students came to give their support. Many of them joined the directors of Student Association to clean the college. Each of us wished to turn our college into a clean and beautiful place.
First, all of us were divided into a few teams to clean up different areas in the college. They were the computer room, 4 classrooms, 2 study rooms and also the toilets.
Here, credit should be given to one of our directors - Amy. She had "sacrificed" herself to wash the toilets and the "TOILET BOWLS". Well done, Amy! Actually the toilets in Aman College were not dirty, not as "scary" as you thought. It was just a "must" to clean the toilets. Anyway, thanks to Amy.
Soon, in less than an hour, we had cleaned up every nook and corner of the college. Everyone of us was quite tired because it was a big area which we had to cover. While we were having our rest, our principal - Dr. See, bought some cakes and drinks for us. Hurray! He was just in time when our stomachs were rumbling. After filling our stomachs, it was around 4.00 pm and everyone went home.
It was a successful spring cleaning activity and it gave us a chance to co-operate with each other. Also, it allowed all the students in Aman College Batu Pahat to study in a clean environment. Lastly, I would like to thank all those who had contributed in this spring cleaning. Thanks, guys!
4th February 1998, marked the Orientation Nite of Aman College. This Orientation night was organised by the organising committee of Student Association of Aman College headed by Heng Boon Su. The main objective of the gathering was to foster good relationship amongst the incoming and the senior students. The incoming students were also briefed on the activities and the background of Aman College.
About 40 students and guests arrived at around 4.00 p.m. After the introduction of guests, Mr. Chong, the representative of Dr. See, the principal of Aman College, gave his speech. He welcomed the new students and hoped they can lead a meaningful life at Aman College. After that, the chairman, Heng Boon Su read out his speech and this was followed by the speeches of the president of Student Association of Aman College, Yap Chin Hsien and the president of Rotaract Club, Gan Wee Teck.
About 4.30 pm, Ho Weng Huat and Yew Kong Song, the games-organisers, conducted a few games. These games were aimed to allow the new students to know more about the seniors, such as their names, ages and hobbies. All the students enjoyed the games. After the games, all the students and guests were invited to a tasty and delicious buffet prepared by the refreshment committee. The Orientation night ended on a happy note.
On 1st March 1998, the Student Association of Aman College organised a badminton competition at Young Young Badminton Court. Thirty students participated in this competition. The participants registered themselves at 9.00 a.m. The competition was divided into 4 categories. They were the men’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s singles and women’s doubles.
The competition started at 9.30 am. The first match was the men’s doubles between Calvin Ho and Richard Ong versus Yew Kong Song and Tay Wee Loon. This match was considered the championship match because both the pairs also met in the final. The match was won by Yew Kong Song and Tay Wee Loon(15-17, 18-15 and 15-13 ).
The students of Aman College were very supportive of this competition. They came to Young Young Badminton Court to support the players. A few lecturers from Aman College also came to join in the crowd. Our principal, Dr. See dropped by and was given the honour to umpire the men’s singles final between Calvin Ho and Tay Wee Loon. The final was won by Calvin Ho( 15-12, 15-17 and 15-9 ).
The competition was a success.
A trip was organised by the Student Association to our main campus in K.L on the 30th March. Normally two trips will be held a year for students to relax and enjoy themselves after their final examination. This was a one day trip.
We included many interesting places like the Bukit Beruntung Golf Club, Sunway Pyramid and Sunway Lagoon in the itinerary. The main purpose of this trip was to visit our new main campus situated at Bukit Sentosa.
Aman College Batu Pahat created history by being the first branch to visit the new campus. Another history was also created by the college for being the largest entourage which comprised of 2 bus load of 78 students.
Students gathered in the wee hours of the morning at the college. After all the students and our principal, Dr. See arrived, we left for our destination at 6.00 am. Along the way, our directors conducted games inside the bus. These games lasted two hours and the students felt good after that. Soon, we reached our new main campus. Here, we were fascinated by the facilities, advanced technology, lecture theaters, sports centres and many more. With all these, it is like a dream come true for every student. It is just like studying in a university. The campus area was so wide that one might need a bicycle to get to another building.
After that, we visited Bukit Beruntung Golf Resort which is only one mile away from the college. The facilities there included golf course, bowling alley, swimming pool, sauna, gym and etc. All students pursuing their studies in the new main campus, are entitled to use all the facilities for just a small fee.
The next exciting stop we made was none other than the biggest shopping complex and that is Sunway Pyramid. The students were given a choice of either Sunway Lagoon or Sunway Pyramid. Most of the students opted for Sunway Pyramid but a few preferred to enjoy themselves in the Lagoon.
Later, some of the students flocked back to the bus to take a rest. When all students were back on time and we started out journey back to Batu Pahat.
Although we all felt tired and sleepy, I was sure that everyone enjoyed themselves to the maximum and had lots of fun during this trip.
For the first time, a special day was dedicated to all "Amanians" throughout the whole of Malaysia. What was it? It was "College Day". The splendid two days and one night college day was held on the 27th June 1998 at the Bukit Beruntung Golf Resort in Kuala Lumpur. There was an inter-centre, friendly competition of games which included basketball, tennis, badminton, squash, swimming and bowling.
Wow! How very interesting! Don’t you think so? From indoors to outdoors, from hard solid ground to cool calm water. Which would you prefer?
First, we were directed into a big badminton hall. There we found many fellow Amanians, about two hundred of them.
The first game we played was bowling and I should say that that was the only event with the most participants. The overall champion was the Batu Pahat centre. The second game that we played was badminton. The overall champion was the Ipoh centre and the runner-up was the Kuala Lumpur centre.
Anyway, we did go for our swimming session before the night party started. According to the programme schedule, we were required to gather near the pool-side by 8.30 p.m. where the buffet was. So, you could imagine how romantic the party was at the pool side. Cool evening air, peaceful environment and soothing music – just like a scene from a romantic movie. The food finished real fast., Many late comers who arrived at 9 missed out most of the food. Many "Amanians" participated in the disco that night.
The next day arrived rather abruptly. At about 8.00 am, the last meeting was called for giving away the prizes to the winners of the various games and a final handshake with all the other "Amanians". The first prize for bowling was awarded to the representatives of BP, led by the team captain, Mr. Yap. Meanwhile, the first prize for the badminton was won by the Ipoh players.
However, in order to make us happy, Mr. Yap suggested a short visit to the Bukit Sentosa campus. We were led by Mr. Yao on a brief tour around in the campus. After that, we set off for home with happy memories of the "College Day".
By 7 p.m. some students had already reached the hall. However, the arrival of the president, Mr. Yap Chin Hsien at 7.30 p.m. had everyone standing and clapping to welcome him.
So with everyone here and everything ready, the MC for the night, Ms.Gan Sze Pei started the ball rolling by welcoming all the students and the V.I.Ps. They were the chairman of the orientation , Mr. Yew Kong Song, the president of Student Association, Mr. Yap Chin Hsien, the lecturer and counsellor of Aman College, Ms. Jennifer Lim, the president of Rotaract Club, Mr. Gan Wee Teck, singer-entertainers Mr. Jack Tay and Mr. Ng Yeow Hin. After that, the MC introduced the programme for the evening.
Then, the four V.I.Ps gave their speeches one by one including Ms. Jennifer Lim. She pointed out that students should enjoy their life besides only studying and they should be involved in more college activities, expose themselves to the outside world and make more friends.
After the speeches was the prize giving ceremony. Prizes were given to the winners of the badminton and bowling competitions organised by the Students’ Association and the basketball competition organised by the Rotaract Club.
This was followed by the highlight of the evening – performance. The organising committee had arranged a number of guest performances for the audience. First was singing performed by Ms. Jennifer Lim and Mr. Jack Tay. They rendered two songs. Everyone’s eyes were focussed on Ms. Jennifer Lim because being English educated she could sing Mandarin songs! What a surprise! Then. Mr. Ng Yeow Hin sang another two songs to entertain the audience and got an overwhelming response, especially from the girls.
After the splendid performances, came the exciting games with forfeits. The audience enjoyed themselves. The games were led by Mr. Ho Weng Huat and Mr. Yew Kong Song. About 19 persons were forfeited with funny acts.
Furthermore, the organisers prepared refreshment for all present. There were fried mee, sambal, fish balls, water melon, drinks and other goodies. During the refreshment, the students mingled around to foster better friendship here.
As the refreshment was the last event, the crowd left after having had their fill. They all felt satisfied and happy.
In short, the organising committee had achieved their objectives. All their hard work and sweat had paid off. This has been the best orientation ceremony.
On 28th October 1998, Student Association of Aman College organised a trip to Lanjut. Thirty-nine students participated in this trip. On that day, around 5.30 am, the students started to gather at the college. The bus arrived on time too. When everyone had boarded the bus, we set off to our destination. In the bus, everyone started to chit-chat with one another. It was like a mini market. After about an hour, the bus turned quiet. Guess what happened. Everyone had gone back to find his or her sweet dreams.
After a few hours of travelling, we reached Mersing. There, we had our breakfast and took a short break before setting off again. It was a long way to Lanjut, Kuala Rompin. As it was our first time there, we were not sure about the place. Even the bus driver had to drive slowly to search for it. Half an hour later, we reached our destination.
We unloaded our belongings and proceeded to the chalet. The chalet was a building with eight rooms. It was a big and comfortable place. When everyone had settled down, we had our lunch. After a short break, our programme began. We had few games in the hall of our chalet. Everyone enjoyed themselves during the games; especially the "word-assemble" game. We could see a lot of funny ways on how the students assembled the words. There were lots of laughter.
Then, we moved on to the beach. The scenery at the beach was fascinating. The cool breeze blew towards us. The sand was soft and fine. Everyone was attracted to the beautiful scenery. At the beach, we had a short trekking session. After that, it was everyone’s favourite time. It was the free session. Everyone began to run to the edge of the beach and enjoy the coolness of the water. Some students even went down for a dip.
Two hours later, everyone started to rush back to the chalet. Everyone was queuing up for a shower. In a short while, everyone was ready to get back to the beach as we were having a barbecue for dinner. Chicken wings, sausages, fish balls and drinks were prepared for the students. Some students were already at the beach to start the fire. It took some time for them to start the fire, as the wind was quite strong.
Half an hour later, everyone was at the beach. There was a group of students who kept on barbecuing for others. They were so kind to do so. Then, the place suddenly turned dark. There was a power failure. According to the owner of the chalet, they had not experienced this situation for quite sometime. I guessed this was what we called luck. It was just our luck to be in this situation. We had to light candles and used the torchlight to brighten up the place.
Nobody really cared about the power failure, as everyone was still chit-chatting happily. After dinner, there were students still hanging around the beach to enjoy the cool breeze. Besides that, the place was still in darkness. When we were at the beach, we lighted the lanterns that were meant for the moon cake festival celebration. The celebration was not carried out due to the power failure. The beach was beautifully brightened up with these colourful lanterns.
A few hours later, the power was restored. Everyone went back to the chalet to get some rest. It was at night and most of them went to their rooms to rest. Some of them even slept on the balcony of the chalet. Soon the chalet turned quiet. However, there was a group of students who refused to sleep. They went down to the beach again to have a chat because they did not wish to disturb those who were having sweet dreams. This group also intended to stay up the whole night to wait for the sunrise. But half way through, they went back to the chalet to catch forty winks.
Around 5.00 a.m. a few students woke up. They got dressed and went down to the beach. Some might wonder what they intended to do. Actually they were the early birds who wished to watch the sunrise but it was a disappointment. They were not able to watch the beautiful scenery, as it was a cloudy day. They sadly returned to the chalet.
At 9.30 am, most of the students were up. Breakfast was served. The Student Association had prepared some sandwiches for the students. Some students even brought their own breakfast. After breakfast, the students went down to the beach again.. they had their photographs taken on that beautiful beach to keep as souvenirs.
After a short while, most the students went back to the chalet to pack their things. It was time to go back to Batu Pahat. The bus arrived and everyone boarded the bus happily. Although it was a tiring trip, everyone was able to enjoy themselves and temporarily forget their hectic schedules.
In the month of October 1998, Aman College held its annual jogathon. This yearly event has been carried out for the past four years and is still going strong. This year’s jogathon was held in a different mode. It was held in Tasik-Y and its vicinity. It was a good choice of venue because of the space that could allow us to organise our games.
This jogathon was divided into two sections. First was the marathon run and then continued with various challenging games. The joggers were split into groups of four. This year, six groups participated in this event with a male majority. The girls gave up mainly because of the marathon run. Judging from the records, all the six groups were made up of active athletes and runners. To our surprise, our president of the Student Association also took part in the event. In our mind, the group would surely be fighting for the last position.
The event started off with a dash in the marathon run. Along the way, there were stops. The directors of the association asked each team to perform something before they could continue with their run. After the fast and exciting first lap of the marathon, the runners slowed down. Here we could see them opening and closing their mouths gasping for air like a ‘gold fish’. Surprisingly, our president’s team came up second because of their hard work and determination.
The next event was held in Tasik-Y. It was time for more games, where every group had to go through five challenging games that was organised by our ‘monster’ activity organiser.
Each game lasted 10 minutes and the more productive they were the more points they would get. The first was an IQ test, where the teams were tested on their IQ. In the end, all the teams were considered failures with the highest score of only 14. The second event was doing push-ups. Here, the challenge was on the number of times a team could perform in 10 minutes. The winner went to the team which managed 60 times in a minute. The third event was a test on using chop sticks to pick up marbles from a pail. The fourth event was the blowing and bursting of balloons. The joggers had to blow balloons and press them with their chests against the floor until the balloons burst. There was a lot of fun and laughter.
The last event was a game that the players had to use their mouths to pick a sweet in a tray full of flour. We could see the players’ faces go all white and their mouths filled with flour.
At the end of the day, everyone present enjoyed themselves. It was indeed a fruitful event organised by the Student Association.
