Why SERIES was developed

As part of the Medellin Municipal system for the prevention and attention of disasters,
The Medellin Accelerometer Network (MAN) was created and totally funded by the
City of Medellin's Major Private Office.

The Objective was the installation and operation of a Local Accelerometer Network
to register seismic motions in the City and that will be the input data towards the Medellin
Seismic Microzonation.

This project is currently under development by EAFIT University, with the
cooperation of The Facultad de Minas of the Universidad Nacional de Colombia,
INGEOMINAS and Integral S.A

Thanks to this project, Medelln has the second largest Local Accelorometer Network
in Latin America after the City of Mexico Network, with 22 shallow stations and
2 deep stations.

The Hi-Tech Equipment is made with the state-of-the-art Technology in Seismic data
acquisition, allows in the shor term to a better understanding and characterization of the
ground motions to be registered on the several geotechnical formations in the City, and as
a result, it will help in the definition of seismic-resistant specifications for the design
of structures in every single zone in the City.
