UPAACC AWARDS Dr. Pete Mayol, Treasurer of the University of the Philippines Alumni Association of Central California, is the proud recipient of the 1998 U.P. Alumni Service Award. The University of the Philippines Alumni Association bestowed the honor upon Dr. Mayol for his continued dedication to his Alma Mater. Dr. Mayol initiated the UPAAC "Book Donation" project. Under his guidance, more than 4,000 books have been donated and delivered to the U.P. libraries of Baguio, Cebu, Diliman, Iloilo, Manila, Mindanao and Tacloban. Dr. Pete Mayol graduated with a BSA degree at the U.P. Los Banos in 1957. He obtained an MS degree in Botany/Plant Pathology at Oklahoma State University in 1965, and went on to achieve a Ph.D. in Botany/Pathology at Purdue University three years later. Today, he is a Full Professor of Biological Sciences at California State University at Stanislaus. In other UPAACC news, Mr. Modesto Buenaventura, a junior BA Broadcasting Communications student, is the recipient of the Crisologo Cabacungan - UPAACC Scholarship. The original recipient, Miss Anna Lee Gauten, deferred the award in order to receive a Fuji Bank Scholarship. |
