The Loop (Everything comes around)
I have a lot of things that I want to write about today, and I wish I could write about all of them... but I really can't. It would take me way too long. I'll write about most of them later and two of them now.
I am reading a book called "The Loop" by Nicholas Evans (He wrote "The Horse Whisperer"). It's amazing. I'm only about 50 or so pages into it but it's amazing. It's about wolves and how the ranchers in Montana hate them because they kill their cattle. It's also about the lives of the people who are trying to save the wolves. The book described the wolves' history in the area and how they were hunted for their fur in the 1900's. It was horrible to read the descriptions and I cried when I read how they would be trapped or poisened. I read about how some wolves didn't eat enough poisened meat to die and they would stagger around sick and all their hair would fall out and they would freeze to death in the winter time. I also read about a trap that was used on the wolf pups. They would eat a piece of meat and in the meat there would be a barbed hook attached to a wire. When the meat was eaten the barbed hook would spring open in the pup's throat and they would be attached to the wire that was pegged into the ground. The book described how the pups would yelp when the hook sprang open. The adult wolves couldn't do anything about it except sit with the pup and lick them. And then the trapper would come out and shoot the adults and club the pups. In the end it wasn't about selling their fur, it was about killing them because they were considered evil.
These descriptions of the senseless wolf killings remind me of wars. Specifically the war going on right now. I am reading A.G.'s web journal about the war and his latest entry made me cry. He described how NATO bombs hit a TV station and killed 10 and injured 17 that were working there. This is senseless and stupid and insane. I'm not saying I'm against NATO because I don't know enough about what is going on. However, I can say this without having to think about it: I am against war. I am against the slaying of people, innocent or not. I am against bloodshed and I am against the sadness that people have to suffer through because of these things.
May the higher beings protect our souls.
