Most people who know me know that I spend a great deal of my free time on the computer, and those who know me well know that I spent a large part of my computer time last semester on Shadowdale MUD. For those who do not know what a MUD (Multi-User Dimension) is, it is a site on the internet where people can go to chat or to role-play in a fantasy-type setting.
If you would like to find out more about Shadowdale, you can visit its homepage on the web.
Almost a year ago, I was talking to a good friend of mine whom I had met on the internet, and I told him about my interest in role-playing games. He told me about Shadowdale and suggested that I try playing, so, knowing absolutely nothing about muds, I logged on through my (horrible!) telnet program and attempted to play. I was not successful, and quickly logged back off in frustration. To those who are not familiar with them, as I most definitely was not, MUDs can be very confusing. ;) A short time later, I agreed to try again with him, and created my first character, whom I named Lysana (imagine that ;p). It was very slow-going at first...actually for about the first two months...but I really enjoyed playing and I especially liked meeting so many new people.
I had several characters whom I played from time to time at Shadowdale. Lysana, naturally, was my main character and one of my favorites, and I wrote a story about her days at Shadowdale. Some of my others were KaiXara, a dark-elf cleric and Zhythil, a half-giant warrior. I am still planning on writing a bit about them, though I am currently working on another project that is taking up the majority of my writing time. :)
This semester, however, my characters have put aside their adventures and are taking a break while I focus on things like school and studying. ;)
