Senator Trisha Smrecak |
Trisha "Flapjack" Smrecak is a Sophomore at Bay City Central High School. Senator Smrecak served on the Curriculum Committee. Here is what she shared about her three day learning experience in Lansing: |

Q: What were your duties in Lansing? A: We created a bill regarding the improvement of curriculum and had to get it passed. We could also vote against other bills on the Senate floor.
Q: In your own words, "What is Student Congress?" A: Learning how our government is supposed to work, coming to better understand Parliamentary Procedure, and meeting deadlines, and new people.
Q: How can someone get involved in Student Congress? A: Talk to Mrs. Bruder and RESEARCH!!! |
This is really cool, and I can't believe I am finally here! |

Q: What did you learn? A: I learned that Congress doesn't just sit around and twiddle their fingers for hours. It really is hard work to get a good bill written and passed.
Q: "Student Congress is a great experience for someone who..." A: ...enjoys making changes in their society. Whether those changes are big or small.
Final comments: This experience has taught me that the way our government was set up CAN work, and the people who do it daily are to be commended, because it is NOT as easy as it looks. LONG LIVE PARLI PRO!!! |

Sometimes we senators make buddies with the lobbyists! We help them pass bills and they do us favors in return!

To the left: Senator Smrecak enjoys a snack at the late night "educational summit..." (This year's educational summit was not only pizza, but a dance at the Radisson Hotel. It was a chance for kids from different schools to meet on a social level. It was also a time for those running for office to "rub elbows" with their constituents!) |

The food is not bad here either! |
