Representative Alexa Pobanz
Alexa Pobanz is a senior at Bay City Central High School. While at Student Congress, she served on the House of Representative's Assessment Committee.
Q: How can someone get involved in Student Congress?
A: Talk to your school's Debate or Forensic Coach. If you live in Michigan, this opportunity is available to you. You must compete in the Spring Discussion festival and score 50 points or more. You are judged on your ability to communicate, lead in group, and share in decision making responsibilities. If you make the cut, you can learn about Parliamentary Procedure in the Fall, and then move on to Student Congress in September, at the Capitol Building in Lansing. I had a lot of fun here!
I like the accomodations!
What a busy place the House of Representatives is! Students were kept busy drafting bills and meeting deadlines from 8:00 a.m. till 10:00 p.m. every night.
As you saw in the picture above, the House is quite a busy place and sometimes it is rather hard to get a standing vote counted. In those instances, the voting board comes in handy...and the kids love to push those buttons! What power!
Alexa is arguing in favor of a bill that has been brought before the House. You go, girl!
