Berkeley Campus

Founded in Berkeley in the late nineteenth century, the University of California was designed in the imperial style through an international competition. Its master plan is originnally created by Fredrick Law Olmstead, who was a landscape designer of the Central Park in New York. With its paralleled views of the Golden Gate Bridge and the San Francisco Bay, its terraced topography, its sylvan groves and meandering Strawberry Creek, the University of California was one of the nation's most magnificent campus.

Designed as Campanile of Saint Marco Plaza in Venice for its model in 1914. From the top of the tower ,94m height, you can enjoy fantastic over view of Oakland, San Francisco, Golden Gate Bridge.

Twice a day, British made bell rings dramatically.

This bronze made gate Designed in 1909 locates south entrance of the campus facing Sproul Plaza.

Sproul Hall facing Sproul Plaza accomodates administrations, registrar, financial aid UC police Dept. Kind of so official building of campus.

In front of this building, walkouts and assembly was held for anti Vietnamese war during 60' and still some group rooted from the movement of free speech right activates there.

Doe library, main library of the campus. Its main reading room is so majestic and open to public. Its underground, there is Doe Stacks that is spo fuge than expected. Memorial Glade in front of the Doe Library is appropriate large pleasant turf to enjoy nap, light sports.

Wurster Hall that accommodates College of Environmental Design ,includes architecture, landscape architecture, city planning.

The building is typical modern design in 60' especially the concept of the facade is to gain flexibilty for user's changing needs. But it seems it is one of the most ugly outlooking building in the campus. And also the security of the studio in this buildinfg is so bad.

And more, its seismic spec is doughtful and needs modification for erthquake proof reinforcement. Recently some proposal was held for the scheme.

Only good thing is the wonderful view from the valcony of the studio that locates upper floor of the building. Especially the sunset view from there is most reccomenndecd!

Beautiful landscape of 'organic' topography of the campus. Ground between building is well mentenanced natural turf,in which Strawberry Creek cuts through.

One of my favorite spot in the campus in front of University House. Its sloping turf is appropriate for nap in a quiet environment of the north of the campus.

The entrance to UC Jazz Unsemble I joined. It locates underground of Cesar E Chavez Student Center.
