What a year

One of the reasons I gave up being in the class of '01, and spending my year abroad was that this promised to be a special year, if for nothing else, that it would be the fiftieth anniversary of the state. (I haven't yet heard quintenial, but I see the words "Jubilee Year" everywhere.)

I just know that that means we will get bombed, and it would make it much more exciting here, but as a service to any of you who decide to become historians, or write papers for school, let us establish why this year was determined to have an attack, or at least something interesting as a result. Take a look at the unusual aspects of it, politically, or naturally.

1) 50th anniversary of Israel.

2) 25th anniversary of the Yom Kipper War.

3) The Mossad goes from a feared organization, to a joke.

4) America won more World Cup games than Israel.

5) Biggest snowfall in twenty years in Israel. (Four inches in Jerusalem)

6) Jews fasted during Ramahdan (Asarah beTevet)

7) Chanuka falls on both New Years, and Christmas.

8) Saddam Hussein backed down without any conflict.

9) Hammer died. (Zevulun)

10) The four mid Eastern countries that Israel is on speaking terms with, Jordan, Egypt, Turkey, and Cyprus, all had major conflicts with Israel.

All in all, it's rather interesting. Something has to happen from all of it. Foreshadowing something like this should lead to an interesting spectacle.
