I have five cousins in Israel. Three have been, or are, in the army, the other two go to religious schools. When I was in Gadna, I developed an immense sympathy for those in the military, I went through what they went through to the nth degree reciprocated.
At this point, I am in a three month Yeshiva period. I personally can't see how anybody could ask to stay in a place for an extended period of time, without the opposite sex there. I mean, I'm not a player, or whatever you want to call it, but the lack of a real girl, just to talk to, is something that proves itself incredibly difficult to deal with.
I went to Public schools, or magnet schools, since seventh grade. Before that, I went to mixed private schools. I don't know how a year could go by without seeing them.
As it is, due to the missing element, the guys become incredibly testy. We've been violent. Mother jokes fly back and forth. They excrete bodily sounds are to annoy the others. We insult each others' nations. They continuously talk about "wanking." I thought I had already graduated from junior high.
We catch each other staring at fourteen year olds passing by, and we have to remind them of their age. The common excuse for the behavior is that they're predicting potential.
I really don't understand it. This is supposed to help you learn. This is supposed to be the more effective way of schooling. I could probably hear better if I poked out my eyes, but that also is a form of torture.
I'm just afraid that if I'm in yeshiva a whole lot longer, I won't miss girls at all.
