Light bulb

----------------------------------------------------------------------

How many Kibbutzniks does it take to change a light bulb?
Nu? Change? Why would we want to change?

Not my own, and it's one of the better ones I've heard. It's so true. People told me when I came that they were under the impression that this place would be Amish. Not true. B'nei Akiva told me when I came that the whole thing would be computerized. Also not true. The kibbutzim that I'm staying on were built in the '30's, but they apparently have not changed a lot since the sixties. They have a fax machine, but you can't send out, except twice a week. They have e-mail, but you can only receive, and you can only receive with your name in the subject. Nothing here is computerized, save the actual irrigation, the water, etc, but that's good, if you want to work.

On the other hand, the mentality hasn't changed here, either. That's annoying. Certain people can't get certain jobs because of old mentalities. Of course, I couldn't get ANY jobs, due to my invalidity, but even when I have two legs again, I can't work in the kitchen, kindergarten, or laundry, due to the fact I have both chromosomes. The girls are not encouraged to work in the fields, but they do, and in fact the girls can have any job they want.

I suppose this makes up for the old days...but I still want to work with the kids.
