New Rituals

''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''

I expected there to be some new patterns, rituals, or traditions that I'd have to get used to. Let's see what I can come up with...(Incidentally, if any of the goyim on my list received this letter, I apologize. Don't even bother reading it.)

First of all, I find it normal to have - )Shacharit-mussaf) then -. (Mincha-Maariv) It wasn't that big a deal to see (Mincha) and (Maariv) split apart, I expected it, it's not as big a hassle to physically get to the (Beit knesset). But the strange thing is that on the (Yom Tovim) here, they split it up so that it's (Shacharit) then -, (Mussaf-Mincha) then . (Maariv)

Another one is the shofar blowing. This one's rather minute. At the end of , (Yom Kippur) I'm used to a long (Tekia Gedolah) Here, they play all four notes in succession. The other thing with the (Shafar) is that every time on (Rosh Hashana) that they went to blow the , (Shofar,) a new person would do it. One guy's (Tekia) would be longer than the previous guy's . (Tekia Gedolah)

I was told when I came to Israel, to expect to hear the Cohanim duchan every day. But the strange thing about my kibbutz, is that they only Duchan during . (Mussaf)

It's still strange that we finish the (Chagim) at around 6:00, but it was really strange on , (Yom Kippur) when we finished (Neila) early. After fasting for around twenty-five hours, the kibbutzniks thought it necessary to dance and sing , "" (Mashiach, Mashiach) and " " (Leshana habaa) at the top of their lungs.

But the weirdest one, in my eyes, was also on . (Yom Kippur) Throughout the day, they passed this powder down the aisles. I had no idea what it was.

"What do I do with this?"

"Sniff it."

"Is this some sort of drug?" But I was too tired to put up a fight. Turns out it was snuff. No, I'm not addicted, and I haven't done it since , (Yom Kippur) but I'm going to use it again next fast day. It's amazing how well it works. First, it awakens you a little, when you have little strength, second it takes away the smell of BO that everybody has, since they can't shower, and it's a way to get SOMETHING in your body.
