Educational Talent Search (ETS) is an outreach program of information, support, and educational guidance counseling which serves low-income families with children in the sixth through twelfth grades. East Central University's Educational Talent Search has been operating in Oklahoma since 1973 and has assisted thousands of students in reaching their goals of graduating from high school and entering colleges or technical schools. In addition to counseling, participants receive information about college admissions, scholarships, and various financial aid programs. Educational Talent Search can help young people better understand their educational options and discover career opportunities.
Talent Search (TS) outreach and early intervention services are provided free of charge to eligible participants. We encourage our clients to graduate from high school and pursue college or technical training. We strive to help them obtain the skills and the resources they need to realize their dreams. Without the early intervention of a Talent Search program, many economically challenged students would be lost to postsecondary education. With assistance from Talent Search, many students are able to achieve their full potential and attain their educational and career goals.
More than 300,000 participants are enrolled in Talent Search programs nationwide. A majority of our students come from families where neither parent graduated from college and whose annual incomes are under $24,000 (for a family of four). In 1992, the Council for Opportunities in Education (COE) conducted a survey which reported that an impressive 76% of Talent Search participants continue their education beyond high school.

TS can help participants plan for costs which are basic to most higher education programs, including tuition, books, supplies, housing, travel, food and personal expenses. Counselors can also provide names of financial aid sources and assist with forms and applications.
All Talent search services are free to eligible persons between the ages of 11 to 19. Services are also available to public schools, educationally oriented groups and
individual students. Contact the Educational Talent Search office nearest you for further information.
