Upcoming Breedings

I am happy to introdouce our premier breeding for this summer.
Baloo x Luciana

Let me start by saying that I am very proud of this breeding. I have spent a lot of time evaluating my dogs for health, temperament, conformation, and working ability. I have spent many hours researching my dog's pedigrees to make sure there would be no close inbreeding, also I have seen the parents of my dogs, so I could verify the temperaments, size, and overall condition. Don't be fooled by other unethical breeders, do your research and you will be rewarded with a healthy life long companion. Now a little about the dogs in this breeding, Luciana was the first dog I purchased, in 96'. She is out of Mad Maxx and Candy Bear (OFA Fair), at this time there were very few American Bulldogs that had their hips checked for
canine hip dyspalsia (CHD), so seeing that Luciana's sire was not checked I was very eager to have her checked at 2 years old.
So when she came back OFA Good I was ecstatic. At the point when I found out about her hips I had already been training her for 8 months. So when she got the passing hip score I knew that taking the B.S.T. was a reality.

Note: the American Bulldog as a breed is susceptible to canine hip displaysia, about 50% of the breed has this genetic disease. I have been extremely fortunate that all of my American Bulldog have passing OFA hip scores. Most American Bulldogs won't show any signs of limping until they are older 3 and up, and because of the amount of muscle on these dogs some may never limp, but who wants to buy a pup that you might have to put down or have costly surgery performed on.

A little about the B.S.T.: What is the B.S.T. title it stands for the Breed Suitability Test, this is the highest working title that the W.A.B.A. (Working American Bulldog Association) gives to dogs that meet their strict qualifications. The Working American Bulldog Association is a nationwide professional organization that rates bull breed dogs in courage, fighting drive, hardness, controllability and obedience. It is a much higher level of obedience that you'll find on any kennel dog. Any American Bulldog that passes both the obedience and protection phases of the B.S.T can be said to be good working dog stock, a genuine cut above. There are only four American Bulldog females with their B.S.T., Lucy is one of them. Every breeder makes claims that their dog is in training for the B.S.T., especially ones who have 100% kennel dogs that have never seen either a decoy or a obedience class. Lucy is a working dog with a B.S.T title. For anyone interested here are her B.S.T. ratings: fight drive high, courage high, hardness middle and controllability/obedience high. Lucy is far from a kennel dog she is my pet, a real world dog that lives in a family setting. I'm sure her great temperament, personality and working ability will be passed on to her pups.

Also realize that if I was money motivated like some other breeders, I could have bred Luciana on her first heat, this is not the best thing for a 8-10 month old female pup. When buying a pup make sure that the breeding was planed, and your not buying someone's mistake. I waited until Luciana had obtained her B.S.T. title before she was bred, it happened to be on her third heat.

Now for the sire, I put my deposit down for Baloo 1 month before he was even conceived. So you could say I had been waiting for that breeding to take place. His brother from the first litter was, in my opinion, the perfect physical specimen of a male American Bulldog. Baloo's father, Rob Boyd's The Hammer of Boyd, he was the first dog in our club to obtain the B.S.T. title. Hammer is 100 lbs. of muscle and does obedience like a robot, he also has a passing PennHip score of, .42 .38. Baloo's mother, Fred Dutton's Maxine of Sure-Grip OFA Good, Maxine was very close to obtaining her B.S.T. title, but she reacted strongly to the starting pistol and failed. She is a great female American Bulldog possessing size and a loving temperament.

Sire: Griffin's Baloo, 125 lbs., OFA prelim Good. Baloo's sire is Boyd's Hammer 101 lbs., PH .38 .42, B.S.T., his Dam is Dutton's Maxine of Sure-Grip, 98 lbs., OFA Good. Baloo is a 125 pound muscle machine. That's 125 pounds with his ribs showing. When I take the BST test with Baloo I expect to get all very highs in these categories. He went from rag work to sleeve work and then full mouthed sleeve bites with light stick hits in two months of training. His prey drive is colossal but when I put away the stick or ball he doesn't drive you nuts whining for it. He has all the right drives for protection sport. In fact if I do the right job training him a Schutzhund I should be attainable. One of the biggest hurtles in Schutzhund for American Bulldogs is retrieving. Its no fun to teach your dog forced retrieving. Baloo has the natural retrieve instincts of a working lab, making my job much easier. Baloo is over a foot wide across the chest. His feet are as big as a timber wolf's. He is my gentle giant, a great companion, always mirroring my mood. Baloo is very smart and he learns new obedience exercises effortlessly.

Dam: Griffin's Luciana, 75 lbs. OFA Good, B.S.T. Her Dam is OFA Fair. Lucy is a 3/4 Sure-Grip, 1/4 Hines, but she is from some very unique blood lines out of these kennels. On her sire's side she is heavily bred on Sure-Grip's Dick the Cruiser "100% Johnson" (Dozer x Ruby), Her dam is a unique Hines (Coffee's Cups of Leroy a Country Boy x Snowbird son) and Sure-Grip cross (Smootch Krugger a Freddie Krugger x T&S's Rippin Ivory daughter) I bought Lucy back in 96' and have been learning about this wonderful breed ever since. Being my first dog Lucy got to go everywhere, she went to Crater Lake, Tahoe, numerous excursions around the Bay Area, rides in my parents airplane, and this was all before she turned one year old. Needless to say Lucy is a well socialized dog that is so controllable I can have to my Grandfather walk her around the block, but at the same time she will not let any harm come to any of my family members or friends. In today's society it is comforting to be able to go on hikes, mountain bike rides, and late evening walks without having to worry if a stranger is lurking around the next corner. I know of some American Bulldogs that reside in some less favorable parts of town. And bad guys learn very quickly which house has the American Bulldog and they steer clear, even as far as to only walk on the opposite side of the street. Lucy is one of only three female American Bulldogs to attain her B.S.T. title. These dogs will produce high drive working dogs, some of the pups will need to go to working homes. For more information on the dogs interested parties should contact:

To get an idea of what the pups will look like when they are full grown, take a look at their grandparents.
Mad Maxx x Candy Bear = Luciana
Hammer x Maxine = Baloo

This is "Butch" he is my pick male from this litter, he has a ton of drive, yet is a very gentel loving pup. He would be ideal for a working home, or a busy household where he would recieve daily walks to burn off his extra energy. He is golden brindle with a white spot on his back, white mask, chest, and feet

We are calling this pup Diamond, because she has a diamond shaped white spot on her back. She is the sweetest dog in the litter, but is going to be one of the largest females. She should mature to be around 90 lbs.

This is Big Brindle, she has a ton of drive and is very tall, compared to her litter mates. Like her sister Diamond, she will be a big female when all grown up. She will mature to be around 90 lbs.

This is Peanut, a great pup, very outgoing, and very friendly. She will be around 80 lbs. when all grown up.
