The Oscar for the Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role

Sally Field for her portrayal of Norma Rae in the movie
of the same title.
Other nominees were Jane Fonda (China Syndrome),
Jill Clayburgh (Starting Over), Marsha Mason (Chapter Two),
and Bette Midler(The Rose).
