The College of Science and Technology provides access to a quality higher education. Six academic departments offer a total of thirteen degree programs, one Associate of Science degree and twelve Bachelor of Science degrees, most of which have two or more concentrations.

The Biology Department boasts of having:

  • Received over three million dollars in research/training grants over a six year period.
  • Trained more African-American Wildlife Biologists than any other university in the country.
  • Reached the status of 5th in the nation in the training of African-American Biology majors.
  • High placement rate for graduates. Student placement over past ten years: Medical, Dental, or other Professional Schools (48); Wildlife Biology with Federal/State Agencies (25); Graduate School (114); Industry (39).

The Chemistry Department:

  • Received over $1.3 million in research and renovation grants over the past three years.
  • Graduates enjoy a high placement percentage in professional school and industry.
  • Majors routinely participate in research internship programs at places such as NASA-Lewis, Eli Lily and Pharmacia-Upjohn.

The Physics Department:

  • Over 80% of graduates go on to graduate school.
  • Recipient of over $800,000 per year in external funding.

The Home Economics Department:

  • Supplements student's curriculum by providing out-of-classroom experiences through community interactive workshops.
  • Boasts of 95% placement rate for its graduates.

Industrial & Engineering Technology
Five degree programs are supported with:

  • Over a million dollars worth of state-of-the-art equipment.
  • A million dollar endowed chair.
  • Approximately $100,000 in external support.
  • 80% of graduates are placed in jobs upon graduation.

Mathematics & Computer Science:

  • Computer Science program accredited by CSAB.
  • Computer Science program serves as a model program for IBM and ranked #1 on its "Corporate Schools" list.
  • Conducting scientific research critical to DoD. Over 12 million dollars in funded research grants.
  • 100% graduate placement rate.

Master of Arts (MAT) in Teaching in the Natural Sciences

The MAT program has two objectives:

  1. to prepare qualified science and math teachers for High School and Junior College, and
  2. to prepare students to pursue degrees in science, math, science education or math education.
