Former NFL star Doug Williams replaced the Legendary Coach Eddie Robinson as Grambling State University's Head Football coach. Williams returned to his alma mater with the dual role of replacing the legend and reviving a struggling program. He is only the second coach in the history of Grambling State University.
Williams, a former All-American quarterback for Grambling, was a No. 1 draft pick by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1978. He played nine seasons in the NFL and the USFL.
Williams came to Grambling after one season as head coach at Morehouse College, leading the Division II school to a 3-8 mark. Williams was the Heisman Trophy runner-up while playing under Robinson and later earned Super Bowl XXII MVP honors as a member of the Washington Redskins.

Former Grambling and Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Leonard Griffin returned to GSU to become strength coach for the Grambling Athletic Department. Griffin was an All-SWAC performer for Grambling in 1984 and went on to play for the Chiefs from 1986-93. He is responsible for supervising and teaching weight-training techniques and conditioning for all GSU athletes. Griffin also works closely with GSU sports therapist Ricky McCall in helping Grambling athletes rehabilitate from injuries.
McCall joined the Grambling State University staff in 1990 and has been in the profession since the late 70's. A former student trainer at Grambling, Ricky interned with the Dallas Cowboys. A native of Delhi, Louisiana, he continues to bring mordern methods and techniques to the GSU staff. Ricky earned his degree in sports medicine at the Sports Academy in 1990. He also holds a Master's degree in Sports Administration from Grambling State University. He is EMT certified, certified with the National Trainer's Association in sports medicine and with the Louisiana Athletic Trainer's Association.
Ernest Sterling, Sr. - Line Coach/Counselor
Sterling returned to the Tiger's staff last season on the other side of the ball and off the field. He combines his knowledge as a former collegiate standout at Grambling, a former NFL player with the Dallas Cowboys and a longtime coach at GSU. He is a stern believer in fundamentals combining speed with strength and finesse. Sterling originally came to Grambling as a basketball player, but the switch to football proved to be one for life. Sterling's son, Ernest, Jr. is a defensive lineman for the Tigers. Ernest Sr. also serves as counselor for the team for any off-the-field problems.
