Document Conferencing or Whiteboarding

Whiteboarding lets two or more people examine text and image documents and place notes and make suggested changes, but without speaking or seeing each other.

Private and shared work areas let multiple users perform real-time text messaging and annotation, point with cursors, and interactively use graphics drawing tools.

Some packages only display bit-mapped images of documents and files, a feature in which changes cannot be made to the original file, whereas more advanced features allow users to view an actual file and make changes to it during the conference

Internet Relay Chat (IRC)

This is an Internet service that has been used for some time for real-time, text-based chat communications between two or more Internet users. Chatting takes place on IRC channels in a similar manner as CB. IRC provides many self-descriptive text commands to control every aspect of the chat session, including listing all channels (LIST), selecting a channel (SELECT), joining a channel (JOIN), and getting help information (HELP). Private channels can be established and moderated using special mode (MODE) commands.

Audio and Video

In order to use video conferencing software, you need to have a microphone plugged into your sound card and a video camera and special software as well.

When you log on to the servers, these programs automatically register you so that other users know you are online and ready to receive calls. Calling someone is easy. Select a Web directory or server from the menu, and the program automatically opens your browser to the appropriate Web site. When you find someone you want to call, simply click the appropriate hyperlink, and the program dials the person up.

The quality of the video and audio depends on many factors, from your video system to the speed of your Internet connection, as well as the speed of your cpu.
