I've been listening to them since I was 11, hmmmm that was back in 1991. Their song "All 4 Love" was "DA BOMB". Why do I love them? Well, everytime I listen to that song it brings back memories....sweet memories.....sad memories and very embarassing memories. Hmmm if you wanna know about them just ask me about it and just maybe I'd tell you.
Okay so who are Color Me Badd? This a cappella group was formed back in 1991. Four talented young men, Bryan Keith Abrams, Mark Calderon, Kevin Thornton and Sam Waters. To date they have released a total of four albums, they are : "CMB","CMB Remixed", "Time and Chance", "Now and Forever" and their latest album would be out on 14th July. Can't wait for it! This latest album would be called "Awakening". In "Awakening", the first single was "Remember When" and the folowing single that would be released would be "Stronger than Pride". When Color Me Badd came to Singapore in May they performed for the "M1 Show". I wasn't able to go due to circumstances like I'm not allowed to go to Clarke Quay!
Awwwwwwww poor Tetty didn't get to see CMB! Yeah but I had met them before...It was in 1996, it was just before the O'Levels and Perfect 10 a local radio station had announced that Color Me Badd was coming to Singapore and that they would be having an "Up Close & Personal Session" with them. I was like "OH MY GOD!" I just had to get passes to go and see them. Why was I so determined? Coz I missed their concert when they performed back in 1992..... Okay so what did I do? I sent over 20 A4 sized faxes to the station. Guess what a couple of days before the "Up Close and Personal Session" I got a call from a lady informing me that I won passes to meet THEM!!!!
Imagine my jubilation! Exhilaration! Basically my happiness that I just wanted to shout out to the WORLD! Yes, I was that happy!
But the sad thing was I only got 2 passes. So now came to the hard part a lot of my friends wanted to go as well. In the end I asked my close friend Hanna, whether she wanted to go as well. Well of coz she said "YES!".
On THE day, it rained! Oh boy it rained so heavily that Hanna and I got so soaked in the rain. It was a Thursday, yup a school day, and we were let out of school at 12:50pm and we were supposed to be at the radio station by 1:30pm. How is that possible I don't know but I was determined to get there! Back to the story, so we looked a mess, we were a mess! We couldn't flag a taxi near school so we had to walk in the rain to Tampines Mall ( a mall pretty near our school) to dry off and possibly get a cab! Well we manage to dry off but our clothes were still cold and wet! Luckily I carried my huge Mickey Mouse sweater everywhere. And Hanna changed into her P.E t-shirt,(whats P.E? Physical Education classes we have to weekly.) Now the next problem was how are we gonna get to the station? It was lunchtime and it was raining and there were no taxi's in sight! So then we went to Century Square another mall near our school, and there was a taxi! Yeah!!!! (I love my old school! There were so many malls there and my friends and I had a great time going there everyday after school. Come to think of it it was kind of like our hangout, especially Tampines Mall. There were 8 cinemas there, so we could catch a movie after school. Kind of a way to release the pressures of school. But I have digressed..)
Anyway on the way to the station we got caught in a traffic jam on the Pan Island Expressway (PIE) can you believe that? But miraculously we finally reached the radio station in time. There were about 30 other girls waiting in the lobby. We went to the receptionist and gave her our identity cards so as to acknowledge that we were there for the "Up Close & Personal Session". Then we were told to wait. We waited and we waited the time seems to be moving so slowly!
Finally at 2:30pm almost an hour later a lady came and called us up one by one and told us to follow her. When we finally reached the station, as it was underground it kept getting colder and colder, we were told to sit on the floor and told to wait coz Color Me Badd's gonna be appearing in any minute. The DJ that day was Kate Reyes and again it was her who interviewed them late last month. Then they were announced, and first who entered the studio was Bryan Abrams (aaaaaaaaaaah tres jolie!), followed by Mark Calderon, Sam Watters and finally Kevin Thornton. Everybody in the studio started screaming! Gosh they were so FINE!!! All I could do was to just admire Bryan! He was wearing a red Nike t-shirt, and shades were used to pull back his fringe. Sigh....
I taped their interview later that night and if i could just locate where I put the tape I'll make a transcript of it and place it here.
One of the songs that they sang was "I wanna love you up". Okay, that song was like released in 1991 as "I wanna sex you up" but in Singapore that great song was banned! Banned! Que est??? Anyways although they sang the revised version, the girls all sang the original version! Hahahahaha! Sam said "Oh you naughty girls" and just shook his head and continued to smile...
When they finished that number, the dj was going on like how much in trouble the station was going to be! But then we just laughed and screamed some more.
The Dj continued to ask a couple more questions, and then Color Me Badd sang another song, "I adore mi amor". Here's where Mark came up to the girls and held their hands as they sang to them and looked them in their eyes. Heaven! He held my hands and smiled , aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! Happiness!
The Dj then asked a couple of questions and then they sang their single from "Now and Forever", "The Earth, The Sun and The Rain". Bryan was singing the lead, his voice was simply tres bien! Il est chanter magnifique! And like the other girls there I was singing along , feeling soooooooooooooo deliriously happy!
All too soon it ended! But yeah finally we get to get our authographs and pics and MEET them!!!!!!!!
Okay so then we were ushered out of the studio and out to the hallway and everyone was clamouring for the guys. I was one of the last to get out but Kevin was still inside so went up to him asked whether we can take a pic of him and maybe he could sign our poster. I took a picture for Hanna but then he was called upon to come out of the room..OH NO! Anyways we went out of the studio and tried to get our chance to meet them. Sam was next and we managed to get a pic and a an autograph each. Then it was Mark, he was so sweet and he took a picture with us. Oh no last was Bryan I was so nervous I had a dozen questions to ask him but all that I could manage was "Erm, Hi Bryan this is for you (I gave him this gift which I do not wish to elaborate what it was) and he smiled and said "Thank you" and he gave me a KISS on my right cheek. WOW! Now like practically I was a rambling idiot, (well now I guess all of you are thinking, aren't I always? Shut Up people! This is my moment :)) So then I asked him slowly , with this huge grin on my face , whether I could have a picture taken with him and whether he could sign my poster for me , well of coz he said yes. He pulled me close and hugged me, sigh,and there I was lying on his broad, broad chest and smiling like an insane girl, as Hanna took my picture. That was definitely the happiest day of my life! A dream that I never thought would ever be fulfiled.. Then I took a pic of Hanna and him. When we were done ,we thanked him. Just as I walked away I told him "Love ya Bryan!" and he smiled and said thanks. I had a smiled that was permanently plastered on my face for the day. I kept touching my cheek. Was it really true? Did Bryan really kiss me? Hanna and I was like we were on cloud nine. No man! No way was I gonna forget that day........
