Who am I?

A journey into the dark depths of my mind

I don't expect anyone to read this. Everyone who visits my page knows me anyway. But, in case you are curious, or you happen to be an unknown visitor, welcome!
So, step inside, come on in, I'll show you around! (But don't forget to close the door, I like my privacy)

First things first. Who am I?
Well, if that were such an easy question, I would have told you a long time ago. My name? That's easy: Urska. (There should be a little 'v' above the 's', but I don't know how to make the computer write one) Fine, my full name is Ursula Jessica Manners, but no one calls me that. In fact, I feel like people are referring to another person, when they call me Ursula. But enough of that.

What do I look like?
There's a picture of me on my sister's website. However, I think this an entirely irrelevant question, and has little to do with my identity. A more recent picture from the San Diego half-marathon...

So what will I tell you about myself?
Nothing much. I'm not so sure I know that much myself. This page is simply a whim, a place for all of my random thoughts, a place to be me. If you want to know more, visit the rest of my site. It has an eclectic gathering of pages, reflecting some very different sides of me. And don't forget to sign the guestbook. Back to the main page!

But anyway, did you think that was all I would tell you?
A few strange facts about myself:

  • The Peace Corps I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Guinea teaching math. Siguiri to be precise. If you want to know more about that experience, click here
  • I like to wear colourful socks. Flowers, bears, polka dots, the stranger the better. My favourte pair: red with white snowmen. I wear them at track meets.
  • I love orange food
  • I want to go to Greenland
  • Actually, I want to go all over the world. Places on my wish list include: Iceland, The Baltic Republics, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkey, China, Vietnam, Ethiopia, etc.
  • I love to cook. I especially love Indian food.
  • I bowl using two hands, and my back hand moves to the front right before I let go.
  • I like this background colour, even though my sister tells me it is hideous. I find it soothing. I know, the Slovenian flags don't match, but I like them.
  • I love learning languages. Next, I would like to learn Hungarian and Hindi.
  • I am a skiing addict - downhill, cross-country, ski-jumping (although with Goldi's demise, it is no longer as fun)etc.
  • My favourite composer is Rachmaninoff, and I also love Carmina Burana by Carl Orff. Actually, I don't really have favourites, they are just what I am currently listening to. I also like Sibelius, Smetana, and Dvorak.

Next question, what do I do with all of my time?
That's easy, although I wish I knew what time were. I never have any. The following is what I used to do. I'm currently a first year grad student at UCSD studying geophysics. Not in the mood to update right now. Anyway, I'm a senior at Brown University and I'm also a geophysics major, which means I spend a lot of time at the Geochem. I wrote my senior thesis on "Shear Wave Splitting in the Nanga Parbat Massif". If you want to learn more about Nanga Parbat, click here. Additionally, I spend lots of time at track practice, where I sprint. Otherwise, I play the piano, spend time with my boyfriend, Keith, and I also spend significant amounts of time eating Meeting Street cookies with Heather. Well, we eat the cookie, and then spend a significant amount of time talking. And in the meantime, I like to dream about going skiing, or else I check up world cup results. By the way, I only support the Slovenian and Austrian ski teams, in that order. I'll occasionally support the Italians-more particularly Tomba (but he is retired)-and an occasional Swede. At the absolute bottom of the list are Americans and Germans. I think the Americans are probably lower. I know I have US citizenship-that doesn't mean I have to like their skiers. Besides, they win everything else. As regards skiing, my favourite event by far is the slalom, followed by giant slalom, super g, and then downhill-by the way, to further insult english/american and skiing, the German and Slovenian names for the events are much nicer. And if you like to argue with me about this, just email me And if you'd like to see a small page about the wonderful Slovenian skier Jure Kosir click here!

Anbe kofe! (See you later in Malinke)
