Disclaimer:First off Cleo, Sarge, Hel and all the Amazons don't belong to me, they belong to the wonderful staff at Renaissance Pictures. They kiddie Amazons however are my creation so don't go kidnapping them now. If I were getting paid for these stories then my web site would have much better graphics hehe. Now in my xenaverse, none of the amazons are dead so don't be surprised if you see Amazons that are dead interacting with Amazons that are living. In fact I think they killed all the cool Amazons off. Well anyways I just put in whatver characters i liked and thought would fit in with my story. Now on with the story hehe.
Page length-30 pages
I sat in the middle of the lab, spinning on a chair, bored out of my mind. Spinning in this chair was the most amusing thing to do here. Im surprised the chair even spins since this is 2525, a time when fun doesnt seem to be a priority unless you consider getting shot at with lasers or being chased by Baileys as fun. Thats all I do these days, except on days like today when we are actually safe in our lab underground and distress signals are nonexistent and even Voice doesnt have any missions for us. Which is why Im writing this. Im amazed they still have pencils to write withI thought they would be replaced by some kind of machine. I guess no matter when you live, people will always have the urge to write down their thoughts and feelings. So here goes my first diary entry, at least since the diary I kept when I was 12.
Dear Diary,
The day started out a lot like today, I was bored out of my mind so of course I was sitting in this chair, spinning around and making myself dizzy. I had no idea that my own curiosity could get me in so much trouble. Mauser, the former betrayer robot who was now our expert on just about any gadget in the known world, was showing Hel and Sarge some new gadgets and all the usual trouble seemed non-existent. I watched them for a little while and kept spinning until they became a blur. I stood up out of my chair and feeling a little dizzy from all the spinning, stumbled a little, and then I ended up bumping shoulders with Sarge. I knew I was in for it the second our shoulders touched. Sarge is the kind of person you dont wanna mess with, shes brave, shes tough, and sometimes I get the feeling she doesnt like me that much, though I did notice her enjoying my strip tease a little too much at the mutant bar.
Cleo! Watch where youre going, said Sarge irritably.
Sooo-rry Sarge. One of these days Im taking you to anger management class, I said as I backed away from Sarge and almost ran into Mauser.
Ok, Im starting to feel a little claustrophobic here. I looked down at the table where all the Star Trekkish looking objects were. Did you guys rob a sci-fi prop shop or something?
Whats a prop shop? asked Sarge in her usual Im in 2525 and all the references you make dont make much sense around here tone.
We took these objects from the mutants we fought last week, Cleopatra, said Mauser. He was always happy to explain things to me, I really think Mauser believes in me, even when I dont believe in me myself.
Ohyeagreat, nothing like mutant toys to brighten a girls day. I left them to do their business and went back to my chair, half listening to what the team was saying while I thought about how much fun it would be to go disco bowling like I used to do. I wasnt a great bowler but Im a good dancer so I would always hang around near the booths and dance to my hearts content while everyone watched me and sometimes people would throw dollars at me. It was pretty funny.
Hel, have you found anything useful yet? asked Voice.
No Voice, just a bunch of useless mutant gadgets. Not very advanced either.
Even more reason to go out and have some fun, I mumbled to my self, still half absorbed in disco bowling memory lane.
What was that Cleo? asked Hel.
Oh nothing, never mind, I answered back. Hel has always been there for me, so getting her mad for no reason would be a pretty dumb thing to do, especially since Hel is the one who said I should join the team. I dont know where I would be right now if Hel hadnt of dragged me along with her and Sarge. I spun my chair again so now it was facing the back of the lab and I noticed a large box. It looked like one of those disappearing person boxes all those magicians used. I knew I shouldnt mess with it, but I had to know, so I walked over to get a better look, I opened the door and peered inside, and I found a panel of buttons and levers. I knew Sarge and Hel would definitely not approve of me snooping around so I looked behind me to make sure they were busy, and to my luck they were. Hel and Sarge were both deep in concentration, I knew the coast was clear and that I better hurry up before they notice me missing. I figured it must be another mutant toy since Ive seen stuff like this in a million sci-fi movies. I casted one more glance over my shoulder and went inside the box, shutting the door behind me.
Ok lets see what you can do, I said to the box. No Im not crazy talking to boxes, its when the box talks back, then you know youre in trouble. Anyway, a set of numbered buttons were at the bottom of the panel so I decided to try those. Lets see now yes I like pink, I said as I pressed the pink button. And purple yes that works. This yellow is pretty bright maybe its important. I pressed it and stood there waiting for something to happen. I stood there clueless until I noticed a switch to my right. Oh duh I forgot to turn it on. I flicked the switch and a blinding white light flashed before my eyes. When the flashing stopped, I found myself right where I had started. I really felt dumb now, and I bet that flashing white light was seen by everyone.
What a reject! I said as I kicked the door open only to find myself no longer in the lab but outside in a forest.
Ok, maybe your not such a reject after all now lets go back to the lab before My sentence was interrupted when a shower of arrows poured at me.
AHHHHHHHHH! I screamed and slammed the door shut again. I could hear the arrows pelting at the box like the rain used to do on my bedroom window. That pelting always made me feel warm and fuzzy inside, this pelting didnt exactly give me the same sense of comfort. When the pelting stopped, I tentatively opened the door and was greeted by a bunch of scantily clad women. AHHHHHHHHHHHH! I screamed again. I didnt know if I was more scared by their fashion sense or the fact that they were shooting arrows at me. I take that back, the arrows thing was a lot scarier.
This is Amazon territory and youre trespassing, said one of the women with curly blonde hair. She looked ok, except that she was an obvious fake blonde and needed a touch up job pretty badly. When I got over her hair something in me snappedhadnt I heard the term Amazon before?
Whoa, Amazon territory, this is like History class coming alive! This is so weird, I must have gone back in time and I mean way back in time. Is it just me or do I always seem to be time traveling on accident. I never asked to be frozen but that happened and now I press a few buttons and flick a switch and bam here I am. At least I know about this time period. When I was in high school they made us read Julius Caesar. Is he still alive? Maybe I could talk to him. I kept babbling on as the Amazons looked at me with bewilderment, they couldnt believe I wasnt scared at of them at all, and I was always good at talking myself out of stuff so I kept talking about stuff I had learned in school. Scary huh?
What do we do with her Eph? whispered a dark haired Amazon to the blonde one. She doesnt seem harmful at all.
I guess we should take her to see Queen Melosa, shell know what to do with her, whispered back Ephiny.
Hey what are you whispering about? Everyone is always leaving me out now I want in. Sarge leaves me out, Hel leaves me out, even Mauser leaves me out, see thats everyone.
Were taking you to see our Queen, answered Solari.
The Queen?! Am I in trouble? I asked her. I realized that maybe talking was bad and doing whatever they say is good. These are primitive people. Or was that the cave men? Mustve been the cave men since these girls can at least complete full sentences.
Eponin, go walk beside her, make sure she doesnt wander off, ordered Ephiny.
But Eph, she
Just do it.
Fine, fine, grumbled Eponin as she led me through the territory. I didnt understand what was so bad about walking with me, Im a nice person with good looks and its not like I smell bad or anything like that. I looked around in awe as we reached the Amazon village. I had never seen anything like this before.
It looks just like it did in the movies like in Jason and the Argonauts.
Whats a movie? asked Eponin.
You sound just like Sarge, I giggled as I pictured Sarges clueless face, maybe Sarge wasnt so bad, just misunderstood.
Sarge?
Yea, Sarge is one of the girls I live with now. Shes a great fighter and all but she really lacks in the girl talk department, though we did get a facial together once. Eponin just gave me that clueless look and didnt even bother asking what a facial was. She stayed quiet the rest of the way to the Queens hut and I decided to give her a break so I shut up too.
Wait out here while I get the Queen, commanded Eponin.
Whatever you say, I said as I sat on a wooden bench outside the hut. When I looked up, I noticed that Ephiny was staring at me. What? Do I have something on my face?
No, you just look familiar, said Ephiny.
I do?
Yes, a new Amazon, Amarice, joined the tribe and you have her eyes. I thought this was good, maybe if they can relate to me then they wont kill me and eat em for dinner.
Suddenly, a tall woman who stood with a stature of greatness walked out of the hut and immediately asked the blonde one, What is this stranger I hear of?
We found her in the woods my Queen. I think she is lost, answered Ephiny.
What is your name stranger? asked Melosa.
Im Cleopatra, but you can call me Cleo.
Alright Cleo, where do you come from? Your attire tells me you must be from a foreign land.
They only look strange because they are not from this time. They are perfectly normal when I come from.
What do you mean?
I come from the future, Im hundreds of years ahead of all of you.
Thats not possible.
I didnt think so either until it happened to me and I ended up here.
I see, Im not sure if I believe that, but since you are obviously not a threat to us you may stay with us in the village. We are short on huts so youll have to share with the newest member of our tribe. Ephiny, show her to Amarices hut.
Alright my Queen. Come on Cleo. Ephiny took my hand and led me to Amarices hut. I was really starting to like Ephiny, I could tell by the way she grabbed me that she was just trying to help me out and wasnt out to get me. I guess that sharing the same eye colour thing with that other Amazon made her trust me.
Lunch will be ready in a candlemark so be ready, said Eph as she departed.
A candlemark?
Yes, but dont worry about it, just follow Amarice and youll be ok.
Ok, I said reluctantly as I watched Ephiny meet up with Solari and go into her hut. I didnt want her to leave, she was beginning to make me feel comfortable here. I lifted my hand slowly and knocked on the door. I had no idea what this girl would be like, hopefully someone like Ephiny. I gasped when I was greeted by an Amazon with my face and her sword drawn. So much for having another Amazon that could act as a security blanket.
Amarice? I asked, still taken aback by the large sword aimed at me. My heart began to slow down when I saw that this sword wielding Amazon looked just like me. Anyone who looks as good as me ant be that bad.
Who wants to know? asked Amarice fiercely.
Im Cleo, and Queen Melosa said Im supposed to bunk with you.
She did?
Yea, since your short on huts.
Wellok, said Amarice as she moved aside and let me through. I entered the hut and immediately made myself at home.
Do you have anything I can wear? I feel a little out of place in these.
I think socheck that trunk over there.
Ok thanks Amarice, this is great I bet were the same size. This is like a sleepover! I rummaged through the trunk as Amarice looked on. I could tell that she was as shocked as me about the coincidence of our identical features and the strange twist of fate that landed me in the same hut as her.
Hmmm this looks ok, not really my style but itll do. I held up a brown Amazon mini skirt like most of the Amazons wore and midriff top, typical Amazon garb. Not the most colourful stylish things but I can get used to it, especially the last thing I wanna do is stand out and get beaten up by these buff girls.
You can change over there, said Amarice, pointing at a divider that was in the corner of the hut.
Cool, this is pretty cozy, I said from behind the divider and I came out looking like you average Amazon. Amarie and I looked even more alike now and we stood there staring at each other in awe until I, of course, broke the silence, Sohas it been a candlemark yet Im hungry.
Amarice looked out the window and saw the other Amazon heading toward the food hut. Yea the others are heading out, we better go before all the good food is gone. We exchanged smiles and headed out of the hut, and I knew that we were both happy for the newfound company in each other.
Now this may not be exact but hey I was getting settled in amazon territory while this was going on. I have to just guess what was going on here. Ok fine so I checked the security camera to see what they were up to while I was gone.
Does it seem quieter to you Sarge? asked Hel as she put down the last of the mutant toys that needed to be examined.
Now that you mention it, it does seem quieter than usual, wheres Cleo? Sarge and Hel scanned the lab but they didnt see me anywhere.
Cleo? called out Sarge and Hel.
She wouldnt have left the lab, she hates the shaft, said Hel
And we would have heard her scream if anyone came in, commented Sarge with a smirk. They did a more extensive search of the lab but there wasnt a sign of me anywhere.
Voice, we have a problem. Said Hel.
What is it Hel? asked Voice.
Cleo is missing.
You must find her Hel, she isnt capable of making it in the outside conditions.
We know that Voice. Thats what were afraid of.
Hel I think I found something, said Sarge. Hel walked over to Sarge, who was standing next to a large box they had gotten from the mutants. The door is open, Cleo must have been in there. It must be some sort of portal.
Voice, I think we know what happened to Cleo, said Hel.
Yes Hel?
One of the mutants devices must have morphed her somewhere.
Hel, I want you to describe it to me.
Ok Voice. Hel stepped inside the box and surveyed her surroundings, Its a large box and inside there is a panel of numbers. Each button is a different color and there is a switch and some levers.
Alright Hel, I think I have your answer. I heard of mutants that have been experimenting with time travel, but there have been no successful missions yet. The model you have must be the first to work. In that case there is no telling where or rather when, Cleo is.
Sarge stepped inside the box and saw the alarmed look on Hels face.
What is it Hel? she asked.
This is a time machine and Cleo is lost somewhere in time.
Oh great just what we need.
Hel, we dont know how this time machine works. I dont want you and Sarge experimenting with it too. If you two get lost in time, there will be no hope in regaining the surface of the Earth, said Voice.
Then what are we supposed to do Voice. We cant just leave Cleo she is part of the team too. I was very touched when I saw this. Gave me that warm and fuzzy feeling I described before.
If you can find out how it works and how to get back, and where Cleo is then you can rescue her but before that time I want both of you to stay in the present.
Ok Voice we will stay here but not for long we have to get Cleo back.
Hel, whats going on? asked Sarge curiously, feeling a bit out of the loop.
Voice says we cant rescue Cleo until we know how it works and what time she is in. answered Hel.
We should get Mauser, hell be able to figure this out. Sarge stepped out of the box and walked across the lab to where Mauser was updating himself.
Mauser.
Yes Sarge? Whats wrong?
Cleos goneshe went in the time machine and we have no idea where she is. Come on. You need to see it. Sarge and Mauser walked quickly back over to the time machine where Hel met them with her down to business look on her face.
Mauser, we need you to figure out this time machine and find out where Cleo went, said Hel. Mauser went inside the time machine and examined the panel.
I think I can figure this out, it wasnt made to be complicated. These numbers here are what you punch in for the year and over here is the on and off switch.
How do we know where Cleo went to though Mauser, and how to get back in time, asked Hel.
Im sure there must be something that tells the history of the times its been to. I assume you do the same thing in order to get back to our time.
Sarge had been quiet for a while now. We all know what a big talker she is but usually she has some kind of sarcastic comment to make. This could mean only one thing. Sarge was thinking and devising a plan, not only does this babe have muscles but she has a brain too, well sometimes, I dont want to give her too much credit.
Hel, what if we could go back to before the Baileys were created we could stop them from ever being created. Jackpot! What did I tell you Sarge was coming up with a plan.
Thats a good idea Sarge, we could be living on the surface
Hel, as great as it may seem to stop the baileys from existing you cant do that, interrupted Voice.
Why not? We would be saving the human population from a fate of living in darkness.
Hel, it may not make sense right now but it would be too big of a change to stop the Baileys. Worse things could come to be, you may never be born if you change that. Everyone has a certain destiny to fulfill, yours is to help regain the surface of the Earth, not to stop the Baileys from ever existing.
Sarge, Voice says we cant stop the Baileys. sighed Hel as she broke the news to Sarge.
Why the Hell not? yelled out Sarge. Ohhh she was mad now, I love it when she gets like this, except when she gets like this to me. Anyway, go Sarge!
Calm down Sarge, Im steamed at Voice myself but you dont see me losing my temper. Voice says that terrible things, even worse then the Baileys could come to Earth and that we might never be born. said Hel matter of factly. If anyone can calm down Sarge its Hel. Besides, we dont have time to do that right now, we have to save Cleo.
Fine, but Im not giving up on this, mumbled Sarge. Lets hurry up and get Cleo out of there before she gets herself into too much trouble. Hey, I resent that!
Mauser have you come up with anything yet? asked a somewhat relieved Hel.
Not yet, but we could do this the old fashioned way, he answered from inside the box. We can scan each button and then we will be able to see which ones she pressed by the marks she left on the button with her fingerprints. Thats old fashioned? At least they dont have to dust for fingerprints anymore they got a cool little device that can read them.
Sarge and I are going to charge up our gauntlets while you do that. Mauser nodded as Hel and Sarge went to the generator to get all charged up and ready for action.
While they were talking about me getting trouble I was already getting settled in Amazon territory. Amarice and I entered the food hut and joined Ephiny, Solari, and Eponin at their table.
Hey, I said in my friendliest voice and put my prizewinning smile on my face.
Hi Cleo, answered Ephiny as she looked up from her food. I see you are getting settled in already.
Well the last thing I wanna do is look like an outsider. We can just pretend Im a newcomer to the tribe.
Ok Cleo, then you better be ready to do some drills. I am the weapon master and no one gets away without mastering a weapon, said Eponin, playing along with my story. Maybe she does have a sense of humour after all.
You can have kitchen duties too, giggled Solari, who was obviously enjoying the game.
I actually wouldnt mind doing all of that, I said. Especially the fighting part. I really need to learn some moves. The other Amazons looked at me in shock, surprised in my enthusiasm to learn their ways.
Ok then Cleo, tell you what, starting tomorrow well have you do all the things us Amazons do, Amarice can be youre sparring partner. Ephiny said this with a hint of pride in her eyes. She must love having new Amazons on board.
Really? That would be so awesome! I think Im gonna like it here. I could just see Sarge and Hels faces when I start kicking mutant butt with Amazonian skill.
Its not as fun as it seems Cleo. Its hard work, are you sure youre up to it? asked Amarice who was obviously doubting I could take everything she could.
If you can do it, I can do it, I replied. How hard can it be?
Cleo wake up, its time to get up, said a voice I couldnt even remember at this unearthly hour.
Go away, I mumbled back.
Its time for morning drills, I thought you said you could take Amazon life, said the voice. My brain began to function and I realized it was Amarice.
Already? I asked grumpily as I opened an eye to see Amarice standing at my bedside, already dressed and ready to go.
Yes, we start at dawn every morning , she answered. Now hurry up before were late.
Ok, ok just give me a minute to wake up. I stretched out my arms and legs and let out a big yawn as I kicked off the covers. I ran my hand through a tangled mess in my hair and got up out of bed.
Do you have a brush or a comb or something? I was not gonna go around with bed head all day.
Yes we do have those Cleo. Here you go, she said as she threw a comb at me. I caught it and slowly got ready for the day as Amarice waited rather impatiently for me to get ready.
Are you finally ready? she asked when she saw me looking a little more lively then I had a little while ago.
Yes, Im finally ready, I said mocking her.
Its about time, were already late. Amarice grabbed my arm and then practically dragged me to the practice field. The practice field looked very intimidating, all these tough women fighting with amazing skill. Some of them were shooting arrows with perfect accuracy. I had no idea just how skilled they were until I saw it with my very own eyes.
Amarice, Cleo, over here! called a familiar voice. Solari came running over to us with Eponin not far behind.
Sorry were late, Cleo had some trouble waking up, Amarice told them.
Its ok, lets get started. Were starting with staffs today, said Eponin.
We already got weapons for you, said Solari as she handed Amarice and I two staffs, one for each of us. I took the staff and felt like I was all ready to star in the remake of Braveheart.
Amarice and I will start sparring and Eponin will show you some basic moves ok Cleo. I shook my head ok to Solari and stood there next to Eponin ready for my lesson in staffs. I watched as Solari and Amarice started to spar. It didnt look that hard. They would do some fancy twirling that reminded me of my days of baton twirling with my friends in elementary school and then they would just try to knock each other over, kind of like in that TV show American Gladiators.
I think I could do the twirling part, I used to be a real good baton twirler, I told Eponin.
Ok then lets see it, she said.
Alright here I go. I took the staff by its middle with my right hand and slowly began to do twirl it, just like a baton. Once I got used to the heavier weight and thicker width I really started to twirl it. I moved faster and switched hands a few times. So far it was pretty easy. I added a little turn as I spun and then I threw it up and caught it.
Ta da! I said as when I caught it and flashed a toothy grin at Eponin.
That was really good Cleo, now try this. She did the little baton twirl, switched hands, added a spin except when she came back towards me she grabbed the staff with both hands and added a forceful thrust.
Ok, I think I can do that, I started to twirl it again, switched hands, and spun around, I grabbed it with both hands in the middle of the twirl and thrust it at the air.
That was good now this time do that and aim it at me, try to hit me in the gut, like this, she took her staff and pointed it at the middle of her stomach. I nodded and did the little twirl turn thrust move perfectly and when I thrust it, I pointed it at the exact spot she had showed me.
That was good, why dont you try sparring with Amarice now.
But I only have one move.
You seem to be a fast learner, just keep doing stuff like that and youll be fine.
If you say so, I said rather unenthusiastically. I so was not ready for some full throttled sparring. I watched as Eponin went over to Solari and Amarice and told them I was ready to spar.
Lets go! said Amarice.
I wasnt sure how to start but that didnt seem to matter because Amarice started it for me by swinging her staff at my head. I screamed and ducked down just in time. Just when I had recovered from the last attack I found myself jumping in the air to avoid getting my legs swiped out from under me. As soon as I was on the ground I saw the staff coming right for my gut. My body instinctively swerved to avoid it and suddenly I was doing the move I had just learned. I spun around twirling my staff, when I turned to face her again and grabbed the staff and thrust it at her. She blocked it with her staff and pushed my staff back at me. She tried to thrust it at me but I blocked her using the move I had just seen her use. Now we both had the staffs in our hands and our staffs were next to each other forming an X. She broke away from the X and spun around twirling her staff. I was already to block her aim, except I was ready to block at the wrong place. She brought the staff around behind me and swiped it under my feet causing me to fall down hard. I looked up at her only to find her laughing at me but offering me a hand. I took her hand and she helped me up.
That was good. I wasnt expecting you to last for so long, she had stopped laughing and was now smiling and seemed proud of me.
I didnt think I was that good. I guess my instinct just took over, and I tried to copy your moves,
Well that was a good spar, maybe tomorrow youll be the one helping me up.
Are we done already? Time sure seemed to fly by when youre trying not to get youre head knocked off.
Yes, its time for breakfast.
Good job girls, Im proud of you both. I turned around to see Ephiny walking up to us. I saw your match, pretty good for a first timer Cleo. And Amarice, Im glad you didnt kill her, but didnt go too soft on her either. You make a good pair. Amarice and I just smiled back at Eph and then to each other. I could feel the bond we had the second our eyes met. If I was gonna be lost here forever this was the place to be. I was already feeling like one of them.
The stars shined brightly in the sky and the moon was large and full. I had never seen so many stars before, probably because the lights from the city and the pollution in the 20th century blocked them out. Amarice and I were walking back to our hut after we had just had a dinner of rabbit stew. I was tired after one day here. I dont remember ever working so hard in my life. It was fun though. The girls and I were getting along really well. I dont think I ever want to leave here. Sure Ill miss Sarge and Hel but the Amazons are so much more fun, and I can actually handle their weapons, at least one of their weapons that is.
Is everything alright Cleo? Amarice asked me. Despiter the shocker of our first meeting, we had become good friends today.
Yes, its wonderful. Why do you ask?
You seemed too quiet, she said. I started laughing then, I had no idea that just me being quiet made me seem troubled. Cant a girl rest her vocal cords?
I was just thinking and looking up at the sky. I missed it when I was underground, and it never looked like this in the 20th century. I turned my eyes from the sky to Amarice and watched as a smile spread across her face and her eyes lit up. What?
I just got an idea thats all, she said slyly.
Are you gonna tell me this idea?
No Im gonna show you, come on! Amarice grabbed my hand and led me into the engulfing darkness of the woods. I couldnt see a thing and it kind of scared me.
Where are we going? I asked as I smacked the tree branches out of my face. Are you sure we should be wandering around the woods at night?
Yes Im sure, she laughed. Were almost there. Amarice pulled back a leafy branch and revealed to me a large clearing with a gigantic rock formation in the center.
Whoa! I said in awe. Amarice turned around to face me with her eyes gleaming with pride.
Great, huh, she said to me.
Yea, its awesome, but why are we here?
Were going to climb up it duh! I just looked at her like she was crazy. Oh come on Cleo, its not hard, really.
Alright Ill do it, I said trying to convince myself.
The bottom of the rock was easy enough. It was almost stairlike, I could just walk up it. After that I thought it would be hard but I actually didnt have any trouble with it. There were crevices and little ledges that I could use to grab on and for footholds. Amarice got to the top first of course. She climbed it as easily as a person walks. She looked down at me and gave me a hand when I had to limb onto the top.
This is amazing, I commented as I looked around and could see everything. I could see the tops of tress and the Amazon village.
Its a great place for stargazing. Amarice sat down on the rock and motioned for me to join her. See this, its a mulberry tree, we can even have a snack while up here. She grabbed a handful of berries and shoved them in her mouth. I sat down next to her and ate my own handful.
MMMM, I said as I tasted them, they were so sweet and juicy. Amarice grabbed a bunch more and layed in the center of the rock.
Bring some over here, she told me. I layed down next to her and starred up at the velvety sky. It was so peaeful there that I was afraid that I might fall asleep. Suddenly a flash of light shot across the sky
A shooting star! I cried out. So we layed out there, for how long I dont know, watching shooting stars and eating berries. Occasionally we would say the same thing and then I would jinx her, and then she couldnt talk until I said her name. I wasnt a good jinxer because I would always feel bad and let her talk. I felt like I was a kid again at a sleepover.
Truth or dare? I asked her.
What?
Truth or dare. Its a game. If you pick truth I ask you a question and you have to answer it honestly and if you pick dare then I tell you to do something and you have to do it.
Ok dare then.
Hmm lets see, I looked around trying to find soemthing for her to do. Ok I dare you to jump in the lakeBuck naked.
Thats no problemif you can get down from here, with that Amarice jumped up and hopped over the edge. I just sat there for a second and then carefully climbed down after her. I got to the lake just in time to see her streaking across the beach and into the lake.
Hows the water? I yelled out stiffling my laughter.
Its great you should come in, she coaxed.
No I dont think so, I would rather be warm and dry.
Fine then, but youre missing out. She splashed persuasively but I was set on staying dry. After a few minutes she came out soaking wet.
Hows the water now? I asked her as we walked and she was beside me shivering.
Cold, she laughed. Oh yea I almost forgot. Cleo, truth or dare?
Dare.
I dare you to go into the Queens hut.
Are you kidding me?!?!?!
You have to do it, just go through the window.
Fine, I said casting her a dirty look. Just what I need, to get caught on my second night here. We got to the hut and we silently made our way to Queen Melosas window. Amarice hid behind a tree and motioned for me to go on. I put my leg through hoping she stayed asleep and then brought the rest of my body inside. I stood there for a few seconds and waved at Amarice. And then it happened. I started out the window and oops my leg hit a nearby table I hadnt even noticed and the vas ethat was on it tipped over with a loud crash.
Oh Shit! I whispered under my breath as I basically fell out the window. Amarice pulled me up and we ran back to our hut hoping no one had noticed us. We flung ourselves on our beds and immediately burst into giggles.
By the Gods Cleo I cant believe youre so clumsy!
I am not! I didnt see it, I was too busy making faces at you! I then demonstrated by sticking my tongue out at her.
Haha real funny, Amarice said before sticking her tongue out at me. Yes I know, we are so mature.
Hey Amarice, truth or dare?
Truth.
So where are you from anyways? Everyone kept going on and on about how youre new to the tribe.
If I tell you, you cant tell anyone else. Amarice looked kind of sad and scared too. I wondered what the big deal was.
I promise you I wont tell anyone. Here, pinky swear. I joined pinky fingers with her and we shook on it. I could tell she had no idea what a pinky swear was but was just going along with me.
I told the other Amazons that my former tribe was killed and that I was the only survivor but thats a lie. I was never an Amazon I just always wanted to be one. I was just the kid in my village who didnt fit in. I amdired the Amazons for their strength and unity and I wanted to be a part of that. So I would pretend I was and practice fighting until I decided I was good enough and then I came here and joined them with the skills of an Amazon so it would look like I had been one all along.
I just stared at her for a moment, unsure of what to say. I realized that the bond we shared was even deeper than looks and that besides her tough exterior she really felt all alone. Which is how I had been feeling for quite some time now.
I know exactly how you feel Amarice, I told her.
You do? Her eyes were questioning, wondering I would react to her truth.
Yea I do. Ive been feeling alone for a while now. In fact I was feeling bored and lonely when I found the time machine. Thats how I got here. I guess it was fate that brought us together. I could have ended up anywhere but I landed here.
Amarice smiled at me and we and we embraced each other tightly in a hug.
Well Im dead tired, I think Im gonna call it a night, I said as I yawned loudly.
Goodnight Cleo and thanks for the company.
Anytime. I think we both found a home with the Aamzons. I blew out the candle and laid back in bed. Usually I had trouble falling asleep but tonight I was asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow.
