Well I suppose you’re all interested in whatever happened to Sarge and Hel in their Quest to find me huh? Just don’t tell them how much I spy on them with the security camera ok?
“I think I figured this out,” said Mauser proudly.
“It’s about time,” said Sarge impatiently.
‘This lever here shows the history when you pull it. We can find out where Cleo went to from this. And this black button is reverse. That’s how you’ll get back one you have Cleo,” explained Mauser.
“Well what are we waiting for lets save Cleo,” said Sarge, not wanting to waste any more time.
Sarge and Hel entered the time machine and Hel pulled down the lever to see what year I had gone to. She gasped when she saw just when I was.
“What is it Hel?” asked Sarge, alarmed by Hel’s reaction.
“Cleo went way back into the past. She’s in ancient Greece,”
“Well at least we have a weapon advantage over any attackers.
“Yea we do,” Hel laughed and punched in the year I was in.
“Don’t forget the on switch,” said Sarge jokingly as she flicked the switch and turned on the time machine. There was a large flash of bright white light and then everything was calm again. Sarge opened the door and ventured out into the open. Hel followed Sarge but exited the machine with more caution, surveying their surroundings thoroughly.
“Looks like the coast is clear,” a relieved Hel said.
“Where do you think Cleo could have gone too, it looks like she had her pick out her.”
“Knowing Cleo, she probably found trouble somewhere.” Sarge and Hel laughed for a minute but stopped when they heard a twig crack in the forest. Sarge and Hel fired up their gauntlets, ready for whatever came at them. They watched as a deer emerged from the trees.
“What is that?” asked Sarge looking up at Hel.
“I don’t know I’ve never seen one before.”
“It’s a deer silly,” said a little girl as she hopped down from a tree. She had light blue eyes and light brown hair, kind of the same colour as the deer’s fur. She was wearing clothes that camouflaged her with the trees and soft leather boots.
“You better not shoot at her, she’s Artemis’s sacred animal. She’s not gonna hurt you,” said the girl matter-of –factly. Sarge and Hel lowered their gauntlets now that they knew it meant them no harm. The girl looked at them with suspicion.
“Who are you?” she asked.
“I’m Hel and this is Sarge,” answered Hel.
“Oh. I haven’t heard of you. You must be new in town. I’m Maia”
“We’re looking for a friend of ours,” said Sarge.
“Her name’s Cleo. She’s tall and skinny with short blonde hair and greenish eyes, have you seen her?” asked Hel.
“Oh Cleo yea I know her! She’s funny. She’s been staying in our village ever since she arrived. She’s in training,” said Maia happily.
“Training for what?” asked a confused Sarge.
“Amazon training duh!” answered Maia.
Laughter came from the trees as 2 more little girls hopped down from the trees, both of whom were dressed identical to Maia. Maia turned around and smiled at her friends.
“These are my friends,” she said as she motioned at the giggling girls. “That’s Raven,” she pointed to a tall dark haired girl, “and that’s Larissa,” she pointed to the petite blonde girl.
“We’re all Amazons,” said Larissa proudly. She then took sarge’s hand and Raven took hel’s and they began to lead them into the forest.
“Where are we going?” asked Hel and Sarge.
Maia rolled her eyes and said, “We’re going to our village so you an see Cleo.”
Sarge and Hel exchanged looks, both were irritated how these children were were treated them like they were the children.
“Here we are,” said raven excitedly, her dark eyes flashing.
“I’ll go tell everyone what’s going on, you stay here.” With that Maia skipped off into the village. She came back about 5 minutes later with Ephiny and Solari.
“So I take it you’re from the future too,” said an amused Ephiny, who was enjoying this little romp with time travelers very much.
“We just wanna get Cleo and go back to our time,” said Sarge, who wasn’t really into the whole meet and greet and let’s be friends thing.
“Whoa slow down. Cleo won’t be back for a while. She went to see the oracle with Amarice and Eponin after the morning drills.”
“She won’t be back until tomorrow afternoon,” added Solari.
“I guess we’ll just go back without her then and come back tomorrow,’ said Hel.
“No stay with us, I insist! You won’t regret it,” Ephiny turned to Solari and said, “They sure are different than Cleo. She must be one of a kind.”
“More like two of a kind. She has a twin in Amarice remember,” giggled Solari.
“Cleo has a twin?!” asked Sarge and Hel increduously.
“Yep, the resemblance is amazing,” Ephiny said.
“I can’t imagine what it’s like with two Cleo’s,” said Sarge with a smirk.
“Hey it’s not that bad I’ll miss her when she’s gone,” retorted Solari.
“Me too,” added Ephiny.
“Me three,” said Maia sadly.
“So are you staying?” asked Ephiny, changing the subject.
“We might as well, ok Sarge,” said Hel, turning to Sarge to make sure it was ok.
“Just as long as I don’t have to babysit,” laughed Sarge.
“Hey, we take care of ourselves, we don’t need a babysitter,” said Raven defensively.
“She’s right, they are tough kids. Come on, we’ll get you settled in for the night.” Ephiny led them into the village where they got many estranged stares because of their dress.
“Are we there yet?” I asked. My feet were absolutely killing me after walking for almost a day. My legs felt like lead and I didn’t think I could take it for much more.
“It’s just up over that hill,” Eponin pointed at the hill right in front of us.
“Oh great, a hill,” I groaned.
“You can make it Cleo,” said Amarice encouragingly.
I nodded and kept walking even though I really wanted to take a break. We trudged up the hill until finally we were at the top. I had no idea that Ancient Greece’s hills were close to being mountains. I looked down and saw a cave embedded at the foot of the next hill. It looked like a big mouth ready to swallow us whole.
“Is that where the oracle lives?” I asked.
“Yes this is it. I’ve only been here once before but I’d recognize it anywhere.” Eponin smiles at her memory and headed down the hill with Amarice and I close behind her. We entered the gaping black hole, I was kind of scared that there could be bats or something lurking around us. I held on tight to Amarice’s hand. We made our way through the tunnel until we saw a faint light up ahead. We entered a small room that branched from the tunnel and there we found an old woman sitting in front of a small fire.
“Welcome, I have been waiting for you,” greeted the Oracle. “It’s good to see you again Symona,” said Eponin as she shook the oracle’s hand.
“I had a vision of you coming to join the Amazon village,” she said.
“Me?” I asked timidly. I had to admit I was a little skeptical of this oracle at first since every time I called those psychic hotlines they were always so wrong!
“Yes you Cleopatra. It is very rare to know who your former self id, let alone to meet it.”
I had no idea what she was talking about. I was just so confused by her riddles that I couldn’t do anything but stare at her and wait for her to go on.
“You both had a lot to learn and I see you have,” she continued.
“Both?” asked Amarice, “As in me and Cleo?”
“Yes,” Symona answered. “Amarice you had to learn to be trusting and not always on the defensive. And Cleo, you had to learn that you are capable of putting up a battle even with seasoned warriors like the Amazons. The only way you could have learned those things was through yourself.”
“What do you mean?” asked Amarice and I simotaneously.
“You two are the same person. Cleopatra was once Amarice and Amarice will one day be Cleopatra.”
We were both shocked by this. How could I go from being Miss Tough Girl to exotic dancer? I had to believe her though because she was right about everything else.
“So my looks never change?” I asked jokingly trying to break the silence. Amarice laughed nervously, she was obviously still in shock about this. Eponin was the only one of us three who didn’t seem all that surprised. My face suddenly turned white as a sheet as I thought more about this reincarnation thing and who could be who in the future.
“What’s wrong Cleo?” asked a concerned Eponin.
“I turned to Symona and asked her, "Can I ask you a question?”
“Of course that’s what I’m here for,” she answered back kindly with a smile on her face.
“I was thinking about who people looked like and Ephiny, the Amazon Regent looks a lot like an enemy of mine in the future, her names Raina, is it true?”
“Yes. Ephiny as good as she is now will eventually become a very dangerous woman,” Symona shook her head sadly. “It’s a shame really since Ephiny has always been one of the greatest Amazons.”
“Wow,” was all I managed to say. I couldn’t even begin to imagine what kind of terrible person that even I could have been or may end up to be in another life.
“Well girls, this old woman is tired out and ready for bed. I bid you farewell and good luck on all your future journeys.”
“Goodbye Symona,” we all said. We headed outside and made a camp beneath the stars. It was strange to see Amarice knowing that I was once her. I wondered if it was stranger for her, knowing she would become me whether she liked it or not. But how could she not, I’m me and I love me.
“Well I am going to bed,” said Eponin. “I bet you two or one have a lot to talk about and I’ll just leave you alone.” Eponin spread out her bedroll and within a few minutes she was fast asleep. And then before I knew it I was asleep. So much for that talk, though I did have a strange dream and woke up anyways.
“One of you is not a real Amazon,” Chia said to Amarice or better yet my past self. This must be a memory and not just a dream. I saw myself with a blonde girl named Gabrielle. I had run out of the cave but she came back to me even though I thought she wouldn’t. I told her my story and she understood and even gave me a necklace and said that I was a true Amazon and then I woke up. I saw Amarice still awake sitting on top of her bedroll. I went up to her and put my hand on her shoulder. She turned around startled but then relaxed when she saw it was only me.
“You should tell them,” I said to her.
“Tell them what?” she asked even though she knew what I meant.
“You know the truth, what you told me.”
“I will, but not now. It’s not the right time.”
“As long as you do. They’ll understand, believe me, I’ve been there.” I suddenly felt a case of déjà vu when I said that. I had heard those words before except someone had said them to me a long long time ago. It was then when I realized why I was here. I was here to help myself. I remembered my life as Amarice and it was the advice from a stranger that helped me through that life.
Amarice she nodded and then smiled at me as if she somehow understood this crazy situation and we found ourselves once again embraced in a hug.
We arrived back at the Amazon village late in the afternoon. The sun had just began to set and the clouds in the sky were left with a pinkish tint to them. Amarice and I immediately went to our hut so we could unpack our bedrolls. I was glad to be rid of it, it really added a lot of unnecessary weight. I flopped down on my bed and sighed happily.
“Where are you going?” I asked Amarice when I saw her get up and head towards the door.
“I’m gonna get a snack. Do you want me to get you something too?” she asked me.
“Sure,” I answered.
“Ok I’ll be back soon.” I watched Amarice leave and then I layed back on the bed. I had just started to take a nap when there was a knocking at my door.
“Amarice you don’t have to knock it’s your hut you know,” I complained.
“It’s me, Ephiny,” called out the Amazon regent.
“Oh come on in Eph, we just got back actually.” Ephiny opened the door and walkin in. She sat down on the bed beside me.
“So how was your trip?” she asked me casually.
“It was good. We found out some very interesting information.” I had a feeling something else was on Ephiny’s mind other than what happened with the oracle. I paused for a second and then went on. “What are you really here for Eph?”
“Well we got some visitors yesterday…”
“Are we going into a war? I can help out so don’t worry about me. I can hit them with the staff or I can go up in the trees with the bow and arrow, I’ve been practicing with that.” I was starting to get excited at this point, not that I wanted them to get in a war I just wanted to see how good I’ve gotten.
“No it’s not that. Cleo, your friends from the future are here. They came for you,” she said sadly with her head down. I didn’t know how to answer to that. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to stay with the Amazons or go back with Sarge and Hel.
“I…I don’t know if I wanna go back,” I said with my voice trembling.
Just then Amarice walked in with the snacks she had been talking about. She stopped cold when she saw the grim faces of Ephiny and me.
“What’s going on in here?” she asked as she searched our faces for the problem. I tried to put a brave face on for her but I just couldn’t do it.
“Cleo’s friends are here and they want to take her back to their time,” said Eph sadly.
“What!? She cant go yet! She just got here!”
“I know,” I said quietly, “I don’t wanna go yet either.”
“Then don’t! Stay here, I don’t mind having you stay and there are a lot of weapons I still have to show you and all the kids love you, so you gotta stay.” Amarice was very convincing but I couldn’t just leave Sarge and Hel no matter how badly I wanted to stay here.
“Amarice calm down. As much as I hate it say it, she should go bak to where she belongs,” said Ephiny who was trying to take this as well as possible. Funny thing was though that 2525 wasn’t even where I belonged and maybe I should just go to my real time, 2001. I could go since we do have that nifty time machine.
“I guess U should go see Sarge and Hel then huh,” I said putting on my brave face like I had been trying to do for the last 10 minutes.
“Yea that’s why I came here in the first place. Come on I’ll bring you to them.” Ephiny and I left Amarice behind and went over to Eph’s hut. She opened the door and there were Sarge and Hel sitting at a little table, looking pretty bored. They perked up their heads at my arrival and stared straight at me. I wondered if they were mad at me.
“Uh hi guys,’ I said awkwardly. “How’s it goin?” I put on my prize winning I’m so innocent smile and waited for their response. Sarge just rolled her eyes and smirked at me as if she were saying I’m in big trouble. I decoded to ignore her if she was gonna be her normal cheerful self and turned to Hel.
“Do you have any idea how worried we were about you while you were off having a good time?!” scolded Hel who was really beginning to sound like my mother now when I got home too late as a teenager. I was surprised she wasn’t wagging her finger at em and grounding me for a week.
“Well I didn’t think it’d be such a big deal. You didn’t seem like you’d care too much if I left.” Sarge and Hel looked a little hurt at my comment but hey when in doubt, use the old guilt trip! Works everytime.
“Cleo, how could you think that! Of course we care what happens to you, why else do you think we came here to get you?” said hel who was starting to get a little emotional now. See guilt trip does work wonders!
“Yea, were glad to have you back kiddo,” added Sarge with a smile and a wink. I think she secretly likes me though she would never admit to it!
“Awww you guys are so sweet!” I couldn’t help it, I had to give them a hug! I ran up to Hel first and embraced her tightly. Then I went towards Sarge with open arms.
“Ah what the hey,” said Sarge and she hugged me back. What a happy reunion we were having! I saw Ephiny out of the corner of my eye, standing in the doorway, her gray eyes glistening with tears of her own. I ran over to her and let her in on the hugs.
“I’ll never forget you Eph,” I said as we embraced. We let go of each other and stood there remember the fun time we had together here.
“Would you lose all respect for me if I cried?” I asked her. She shook her head no and the waterworks came flowing. That saying was right, parting is a sweet sorrow.
“Is this goodbye then?” asked a timid voice from outside.
“I think so,” I answered. Amarice entered looking none too happy but she had accepted it now.
“I guess it would be crazy to have 2 of the same person living at one time,” she said with a little smile.
“Yea it would be, every generation should be graced with our presence,” we both giggled a little bit at that. Laugh to keep from crying you know.
“We should get the rest of the Amazons here. I’m sure they want to say their goodbyes,” said Ephiny.
The next night we had all gathered for a farewell celebration in the middle of the village. Drumbeats filled the air as Amazons played their ceremonial music. Another group danced around a blazing fire and sang along to the drumbeat. Off in the corner there were some Amazons who were sparing with each other and on the other side there was a large table decked with delicious foods. I was trying my hand at the dancing. I hopped in line and imitated what the other girls were doing. Even Sarge and Hel were enjoying themselves. Sarge was sparring with Eponin and Hel was talking with Ephiny over at the food table.
“Looking good!” I heard Solari call out as she watched me dance. Before I knew it she was right next to me and began dancing too. I laughed gleefully as the music began going faster. It almost seemed as if we were just running around the circle it went so fast and then as suddenly as it had speeded up it stopped at a hault. Everything was silenced as Queen Melosa stepped out onto an uprised platform. Then all the Amazons bowed before their Queen and looked up at her respectively.
“Good evening my sisters,” she said kindly with an air of confidence. “Tonight we have gathered here to say goodbye to our dear friend and sister Cleopatra. We hope you have enjoyed your stay here in our village and we wish you could stay and be a member of our tribe but we know you must go back to your own time.” When Melosa finished her speech all the Amazons cheered and the activities started up again. I walked over to the trees and was greeted by the three musketeers aka Maia, Raven, and Larissa.
“Will you play with us one last time?” asked little Larissa.
“Sure!” I answered back cheerfully. I loved playing with them. “What do you wanna play?” They looked at each other with mishievous looks on their faces.
“One moment please,” said Raven, trying to keep a straight face and then she turned around and joined the other 2 in huddle. A few seconds later Maia emerged from the huddle with a sly smile on her face.
“Were going to play Hot Lava, so no touching the ground or your feet will burn off!” she said animatedly as she demonstrated getting you’re feet burnt off.
“Lovely,” I commented at her demonstration.
“Let’s play!” said Larissa who was hopping up and down from her excitement.
“No we cant play yet…we have to get to the good trees, duh!” said Raven as she gave Larissa a strange look. “Remember?”
“Oh yea!” she answered.
“The good trees are by the lake so we gotta go there. Those are the tress with the swinging vines!” Maia smiled at her two comrades and took my hand. “Let’s go!”
We ran through the forest and over to the “good trees”. Once we were all up and on a branch so we wouldn’t get our feet burned off, the game began. Maia was a little daredevil and would always act like she was about to fall but would catch herself just in time. I could see that she was the perfect candidate for one day becoming an Amazon Queen, she had a leadership quality about her. Raven seemed to enjoy the vines the best and would always swing from tree to tree. She seemed to fly and with her dark hair and eyes she looked just like a Raven swooping through the trees. Larissa was the youngest and tried to be more cautious. At one point her little body almost fell from the trees when she wasn’t tall enough to reach the branch she was trying to get. She ended up finding one of Raven’s vines and being able to swing herself back up, just missing the ground. She took it all in stride though and wasn’t fazed by it at all. I found it easiest to grab hold of a branch and then swing myself to another, and I would occasionally try to swing on the vines. I had just gotten myself situated on a good sturdy branch when I saw Raven on her vine coming right at me. Larissa and Maia looked on as if they knew what was gonna happen. I knew they were up to something. Before I knew it I was knocked over by Raven and in the lake. The girls looked at me in the water and started to laugh. Raven was still hanging on her vine so I tugged it down and pulled her in the water with me. Larissa was giggling uncontrollably until Maia came up from behind her and pushed her in.
“No fair Maia!” cried Larissa as her head popped up from under the water. Maia just stuck her tongue out at her and stood proudly on the branch. I never knew that little girl was so conniving!
“Let’s get her back,” I whispered to Larissa and Raven. We hopped out of the water and since I’m tall I was able to reach the branch Maia was standing on and push her in too. Now we were all splashing about in the cool water. We were having so much fun that we didn’t notice that anyone was watching us until a shadow was cast over the moonlit water. I looked up and saw Solari.
“I was wondering where my dance partner went,” she said as she raised an eyebrow at me.
“Well they wanted me to play with them and I just couldn’t turn them down,” I replied as I waded to the shallow water and walked up onto the shore.
“You better get changed now, and so should you kids,” she said to us. The three musketeers scrambled out of the water.
“Last one to the village is a rotten egg!” screamed out Maia as she got a head start to the village. I looked at Solari and shrugged and ran after them.
I was sitting in the hut with Amarice when the knock on the door came. It was time for me to go. I walked to the doorway silently and slowly.
“Cleo…wait,” called Amarice to me. I turned around and faced her. She walked up to me with her hands hidden behind her back.
“I got something for you…you know as a going away present of sorts,” she revealed her hands to me and in it was a small rectangular gift wrapped in a fur. I took it from her and eagerly unwrapped the gift. I pulled away at the fur and found that the present was a book, a blank book.
“A diary?” I asked.
“Yep…I thought maybe you could write about your adventure here in it and that way you’ll never forget us.”
“Oh Amarice I could never forget you!” I wrapped my arms around her neck tightly and gave her a reassuring hug. “Thank you, I love it! I will definitely write about this in here!”
Amarice smiled happily and looked past me at my impatient futuristic friends. We made our way over to them and the 4 of us walked through the village and into the forest to where the time machine was. When we got there, the whole village was there to see us off. We said our last goodbyes and finally shut the door to the time machine and the world of the Amazons.
“What’s that you got there Cleo?” asked Hel motioning towards the diary.
“Oh it’s a diary. Amarice gave it to me,” I replied with a hint of sadness. At least I’ll have my memories.
“My sister had one of those when I was kid,” said Sarge. What a surprise I was expected Sarge to go “What’s a diary?”
Hel apparently wanted to get back down to business because she immediately getting the time machine ready for departure.
“Hey Hel…wait.” I interjected.
“Did you forget something?” she asked confusedly.
“No, but I thought maybe we could, oh you know, make a little stop,” I looked up at her with convincing eyes hoping she would agree to my brilliant idea.
“Like where Cleo?” she asked suspiciously.
“Like to the 21st century, so I could see my world one last time…..Please.” I begged.
“I don’t know….what do you think Sarge?”
Sarge just shrugged. “No skin off my back, let the kid have some fun.”
I jumped around the time machine excitedly almost tipping it over.
“Oh thank you thank you thank you Sarge!” I squealed and then I planted an unexpected kiss on Sarge’s cheek. I was excited ok.
“Remember Hel…year 2001, that’s the last year I saw before I was frozen.” I told her making sure we ended up in the right place.
“Ok Cleo I know,” answered Hel with a slight laugh to her voice.
I closed my eyes from the bright light and then opened them up when Sarge nudged me hard.
“We're here Cleo,” she said.
“Woo hoo!!” I opened up the door without a care and burst out into the world. I looked around me excitedly at the most familiar and comfortable place to me in the world. I knew by instinct that we were in California. There was so much to do and so little time!
“Ok first of all we HAVE to go shopping!” I said to them. “Those clothes just aren’t gonna cut it in this time period.” I look at them trying to decide what would look best for them.
“Oh I know, when we go into the stores you can say you’re in costume for a movie that’s in production. Yea that sounds good. Tell them it’s a futuristic action movie about girls who kick butt.” I already had a great plot and everything, this was working out perfectly. They are lucky I have such a creative mind. I started running out of the thicket we had landed in only to find them still hanging behind. I ran back to them impatiently and grabbed their hands and dragged them into a small field and onto the crowded streets of Los Angeles. I breathed in the heavy air and basked in the familiarity of everything.
“This is just how I remembered it,” I said breathlessly and dreamily. I could smell the scent from the closed down hot dog stand and the perfumes of all the women who think the more the better. I could see the bright lights of the neon signs and hear the rush of traffic and the steady flow of people talking about everything from the best sales at the mall to sports scores to politics. I even saw a very scantily clad woman walking towards the corner who I was pretty sure was a prostitute. Sarge and Hel actually didn’t look totally out of place in this town where you could find the widest variety of styles in the world.
“Look! There’s the perfect store for us!” I motioned over to a boutique down the street.
“You lead the way Cleo,” said Hel absently. Her and Sarge were busy taking the sights in to even care that they were supposed to be buying clothes. So I had to once again drag them to where I wanted to go. The store was one that was perfect for club clothes. It had everything from tank tops to leather pants, tall boots to feather boas, it had everything! I so needed a new wardrobe too!
“Why don’t you two pick out something you like while I try on some stuff,” I said to them. They nodded and walked around the store. Meanwhile that some turned into many. I finally decided upon black leather flares and a plasticy hot pink tube top. I also found some cool pink boots and decided to grab a black boa while I was at it. If you’re only gonna be here one night, might as well go all out. I picked up a few more choice items and went to look for Sarge and Hel. They hadn’t picked out anything.
“What’s wrong with you two! You were supposed to get some clothes!” I said exasperated.
“This stuff is weird Cleo,” said Sarge as she looked around as she surveyed the store.
“Do I have to pick out clothes for you?” I joked. I just grabbed the nearest clothes I could find and threw it at them. “Wear those.” And they actually did. Good thing I picked out some matching clothes at least.
“You know what we just have to do! Go to the movies, I bet you’ve never been to a movie before.” I dragged them over to the nearest theatre which was right across the street. I love LA. We just went into the first show that was open, it didn’t matter which movie it was. It actually turned out to be pretty good. I think Sarge and Hel liked it too.
“Wow that was great!” exclaimed Hel.
“You must have had a good time here huh?” added Sarge. “It wasn’t too bad. Not bad at all.”
“I used to go to the movies every weekend, it was great fun. It’s so good to see one again,” I replied as I remembered all the good times I had at the movies. I looked around wondering what else we could do and at the end of the street I saw a club, that would be just perfect. I led them over to the club and we danced all night. We had so much fun but after a few hours Hel said that we should probably go back before Mauser gets too worried. He had only expected them to be gone for a little bit, not 2 days. We went back into the woods and climbed into the time machine. I stood out there for one last glance at the 21st century and then I reluctantly climbed in with them, and with a flash we were back in 2525.
“Hey Cleo whatcha doin?” asked a voice from behind me. I quickly turned around startled and slammed the diary shut.
“Oh nothing,” I replied to Sarge.
“Doesn’t look like nothing to me, come on you can tell me,” she said.
“I was just writing about my time traveling adventure. I promised Amarice that I would.” I held up the diary for Sarge so she could see.
“Oh…cool,” she said and then proceeded to ask, “Do you miss it in the past?”
“Yea I do…it’s harder here, everything is so different. Even living in Ancient Greece would be easier than here, everything was so simple and there weren’t any lasers flying at my head or mutants or robots or anything like that,” I looked down and fiddled with the diary in my hands. “To tell you the truth, it’s scary here sometimes.” I looked up at Sarge to see how she would react. She looked down at me sympathetically and put a comforting hand on my shoulder.
“We’ll always be here to keep you safe,” she said reassuringly.
“Ok,” I said with a smile. She then turned away and went back to the lab table. I looked around the lab and sighed happily this time. This was my home.
