Meeting at Timisoara City Hall Tasks distribution |

The project is
rolling like an avalanche. Today, 15th November 2007 we had a
large meeting at the City Hall and I found out that the degree of
involvement of the participants is much larger than expected. The first
event, the Art Exhibition that starts on December 1st will
probably have to display more than one thousand works of art. The
large number of participants is certainly a reason to enjoy, but in the same
time it creates a very challenging situation, to organize the exhibition and
decide 3 winners out of so many valuable works.
Initially the winners were supposed to be decided by a jury of 5 people in Timisoara and a similar jury in Portland. Because of the large number of works to be apprised, there is a high risk that the assessment could be unfair and too subjective. Therefore we propose an additional mechanism: to display all the works on Internet and to gather individual voting from voluntaries sent through emails. We strongly encourage people from Portland, from the art environment and colleges and from the Romanian community to support us in this voting. Another option is to give to all exhibition visitors a voting sheet where the top 10 choices are marked. Your ideas about fair selection criteria and how to organize things would be highly appreciated. Today's meeting gathered participants from 7 schools, one university, City Hall specialists, Neighborhood Associations and the Senior Citizens Association. The speakers stressed that the main beneficiary of the project is our community, we want a connection over the ocean but we are the subject of the change, we do it for ourselves. The project is an excellent tool for civic education. The specialists from Tibiscum University could help in designing park furniture and to improve the site of the project. Children could be involved in a different sub-project, to plant roses and other flowers in schools and even in their own gardens. City police should be used to curb flower stealing and vandalism. Anything we do is better than nothing and if only half of what we discussed is achieved, it would be a big step forward. The final part of the meeting was dedicated to the distribution of tasks and responsibilities. Mr.Nicu Vlad from the Senior Citizens Association played an essential role in the management of tasks. In several days this list of tasks will be displayed on the site of the project. Also we will begin to put on the site the names and short bio-data of the people that are involved. |
