Zr. Ms. Isala

In the period 1876 - 1913 the monitor Isala was in sevice in the Royal Netherlands Navy. The vessel was the first out of a series of four.

The design of the vessel was based on the German rivermonitors Rhein and Mosel. Isala was designed by B.J. Tideman. and intended for service on the upper inland rivers in the Netherlands.

Displacement 388 tons. Like their German predecessors the vessels where slow and difficult to manoevre.

One of their duties was to give gun support to the landforce. Therefore the vessel was equipted with a gunturret. Within this turret there where two guns of 12 cm.
