Karen Kendall

Karen was born in New Jersey but moved to Austin, Texas at the ripe old age of four, so she grew up an honorary Texan despite her closet-Yankee status. She started writing little stapled booklets about her cats as soon as she could form letters. Karen majored in art History at Smith College with a concentration in contemporary art.

Instead of writing a thesis for her master's degree in Art History, Karen decided to write a book! She wrote a very stinky manuscript followed by another, while working for a fun, funky art gallery. She sold her fourth book in a two-book contract to Avon! That book was Something About Cecily.

Cecily won the Maggie award. Since then, her books have finaled for the Holt Medallion award (3 times) the Bookseller’s Best award and the Madcap award for romantic comedy. She continues to write and dream, but wish she'd paid more attention to math. Why? Her husband, the knight with a shining spreadsheet, has to read her royalty statements for her!
