WELCOME AGAIN TO QUESTER'S ARTIST QUARTERS, THE ATHENS-OLYMPUS SITE.

THIS IS THE THIRD ROOM OF OUR GALLERY

IN QUESTER'S ART WORK PRIMARY COLORS ARE THE MAJOR TOOLS OF COMMUNICATION BY THIS POINT

Now the big message is form and content. I think that might be true in one's life as well.

Click on the small picture and see more detail in the larger one. Because of a National Science Foundation grant in the early 70's, the questing artist travelled the length of Russia from east to west. A love and respect for the land and people were developed and that meant a painting or two must come forth.

This Russian scene is called: Pre-revolution house with Scandinavian flurishes. It was painted in 1979.

The quester comes from a Dutch and English blood line, so it is not surprising that a wind-mill or two got painted by the artist during one of his travels in Europe. It took me until 1980 to paint this one. And of course there had to be one done in France. This was the artist on the quay a couple of miles out from the isle holding the monastery of San Michael. This next photo is the painting that resulted from the encounter with this fortress that was never conquored during the Middle Ages. I sat on the quay leading to it in 1972 and painted what I saw. It was fun to explore this island.

This next painting was done with the artist sitting in the street in the middle of Florence, Italy with police looking over his shoulder, clucking their collective tongues and saying: "Non importanta!" loud enough to bring tears to the artist's eyes. That was in 1969. This is the Domo with its doors of gold showing golden images that are said to be suitable to line the gates leading to heaven. I was a student going to summer school at the University of Bologna at the time.

This tree picture was done by carving it into wood first. Then the wood was matted with ink and pressed down on paper. Then the imprint on the paper was cut to size and placed in a frame. This was done in 1973.

and you will go the the next room holding all the "lost art" done by the Quester. How do you lose art? It was stolen....

Twenty years ago an auction house was given several works to sell and they mysteriously came up missing. Some had been photographed and so were at least available to see today. Such is luck. Sometimes good and sometimes not.
