The occaison for this gathering was to honor Esther Schwartz Chasen. She had finally come to America. Her husband Moshe had left Russia around 1902. He expected to earn enough money in the United States to send for his wife and eight children. Unfortunately he died about 2 years later. He is buried in a cemetery on Staten Island. Two of their children did immigrate to America before Esther made the trip--her daughters Beatrice and Sophie. The rest of the family remained in the Soviet Union.

The children of Baruch Hersh Schwartz and Frimma Rutberg were (from oldest to youngest): Esther Schwartz Chasen, Joseph (Yosel) Schwartz (died in Russia), Jake (Yankel) Schwartz (lived in New York), Hannah (Chana) Schwartz Feld, Rose (Raisa) Schwartz Lichter, Sam (Eschia) Schwartz, Phillip (Psachia) Schwartz, Bertha (Brucha) Schwartz Stein, Ruth (Rivka) Schwartz (died in Russia).
