| Okay, so like I said, Mom and Uncle Rob whisked me off to the doctor that Monday. I wound up staying there a
sort of long time (I've never been away from home before... I missed Mom!)... she picked me up on Thursday night. The
Doctor told her that I was a diabetic and that I would need two things (for the rest of my life)... a change in diet, going to a
VERY high fiber food, evidently available only through the doctor's office (prescription) and two injections (SHOTS!!!) of
insulin every day, approximately 12 hours apart. The doctor let Mom practice on me (Hey, watch that!) a few times with a
simple saline solution, gave her the prescription for the syringes and off we went. They stopped at the drugstore to pick up
everything we needed (except the food, of course, which we got at the doctor's) and brought me home. Wow! Was I ever
glad to get out and about again! But I must say, I WAS feeling better and I could tell that Mom was somewhat
relieved. But hey, wait a minute! No one told me I had to go BACK!Yup... there I was feeling pretty nifty, getting used to Mom hovering over me every time I ate, sticking me with that - that -thingand all of a sudden I'm back in that stupid carrier and off we go! Well, it wasn't so bad, this time. The lab person (what a sweetie!) kept taking blood every once in a while, I just lazed around all day, and then that same night, Mom picked me back up and I went home.I know my Mom wasn't too happy, though. Something about the glucose levels being even higher than when I went to the doc's the first time! I don't understand that ... I almost died that time, and now I'm feeling pretty good... at least better than before! Oh, well... I'm just the cat, so what do I know? I did hear the doc tell Mom that the dose of insulin needed to be raised (we went from 2 1/2 units to 3 1/2 for each shot), so I guess that's what Mom is doing now. I wonder if I'll have to go back again for them to take more blood? ewwwwwww I'll let you know as soon as I know *grin.* Till next time.... |
