Norman Cavalry En Route to Hastings

Norman Cavalry enroute to Hastings - 1066

The Norman cavalry fought in the French style, on horseback. The Anglo-Saxons fought in the Viking style, on foot. In Medieval combat, the cavalry was the most important unit an army could have. A well used cavalry could be the decisive factor in a confrontation.

The Norman also had the new invention of the stirrup which allowed them to use their cavalry to great advantage.
