Crusade/B5 News

Read general B5 updates here or go to the Crusade section for specific Crusade news.
Crusade news page was updated as of 06/08/00.

(Feb.17,2001)JMS announced this week that all episodes of Crusade have been picked up by Sci-Fi Channel for viewing this summer. Talks are still in the works for B5 possibilities on Sci-Fi such as a new series or B5 movie.

(June 2nd)Sighting of Richard Biggs (Dr. Franklin) on Pamela Anderson Lee's "V.I.P." ,playing a bad guy. I caught it channel surfing. I watched long enough to see him threatening a girl he had tied up in a hotel room but after that I just couldn't stomach it. :)

(April 10th) On April 3rd, The Sci-Fi Channel announced it had acqired the rights to air the Babylon 5 series, starting September 25th. I would have reported it sooner, although it's pretty common knowledge by now anyway, if I'd been able to log in and update. Thanks a lot to my server. Raspberries to you!

(March 23rd)If you would like to support Jerry Doyle's bid for Congress or learn more about it, his website for this purpose will go online as of March 31st,2000. The address is http://www.doyleforcongress.com

(March 17th)Ooo goody, here's a tidbit for Bester/Koenig fans (like me!). Koenig is set to play Admiral Roka in an upcoming sci-fi series called "The Privateers", set for a fall 2000 debut. His character sounds vaguely Bester-ish. Translate that as an opportunist, power hungry, maybe not so nice guy. The series sounds interesting too, kind of patterning itself in a B5 mode. To get information, complete with pics and character histories go here:

The Privateers.

(March 14th) Bummer. It's been confirmed that the official Babylon 5 Magazine will cease production and it's last issue will be issue #24, to be released in May.

Birthdays for March include Richard Biggs (Dr. Franklin) on the 18th, and Ed Wasser (Mr.Morden) on the 26th.

Also, Michael O'Hare will be in an episode of "Law and Order" on March 22nd.

(Dec. 19th) Jerry Doyle is currently running for Congress in the 24th District for California. JMS confirmed this from Jerry himself. Think "Vote for Garibaldi or it will take you ten days to die" posters are out of the question? :)

(Dec. 14th) Two months since my last update. Apologies, but I've been pretty much lazy and honestly not much thrilling to report. I didn't think the whole JMS/Chris Carter thing really needed to be reported as it seemed to be common knowledge, although for those that hadn't heard, there was a tentative developement agreement on a series for CBS involving the two of them and it fell through for stupid reasons not worth going into. Actually, I'm not really crying as I haven't liked anything Carter has done besides X-Files, and I'm still pouting about Crusade. :)

For any JMS watchers, he reports he will be in a few snippets of a special 2-hour "48 Hours" being aired on New Year's Eve. One of the subjects is the "Future" and they ask his views on it.

(Oct. 14th) Several items of interest : First off, some fall birthdays I learned of. Mira Furlan's was Sept. 7th (only 5 days before mine, a coinkydink?), Jeff Conaway's (Zack Allen) was Oct. 5th, and Producer John Copeland's was yesterday, Oct. 13th. Ms. Furlan's new son will be one yr old on December 15th of this year.

The airdate of Jason Carter's (Marcus Cole) appearance in an episode of the USA Channel's new show, "G vs E" as I reported a few weeks ago, will be on Sunday, Oct.31st.

Bruce Boxleitner, Jason Carter, and Walter Koenig are among some sci-fi stars attending The 2nd Annual Galaxy Ball hosted by Robert Beltran (Chakotay from ST:Voyager) on Oct. 30th. The Galaxy Ball supports the Down Syndrome Association of Los Angeles. You can visit their page at http://members.aol.com/galaxyball

(Oct. 3rd) The third and last book of the Psi Corp book trilogy, "Final Reckoning", should be on sale. It will include a preview excerpt of the first of the next trilogy of books about Londo and the Centauri, titled "Legions of Fire: The Long Night of Centauri Prime", authored by Peter David, and scheduled to be released around the first week of December.

(Sept. 27th) Jerry Doyle guest starred on the season premiere of "Martial Law" last night. I didn't know til this morning, darn it.

Bruce Boxleitner's SF novel, "Frontier Earth" will be released in November. It's a sci-fi / western story set in the 1881, right before the shootout at the OK Corral in Tombstone.

(Sept. 26th) Richard Biggs has been sighted on "Any Day Now" on Lifetime. I haven't seen it and the person who told me didn't know if he was a regular or just a recurring character. I've also been told that he and his wife are expecting their first child soon.

Also, Jason Carter has just finished filming an episode of the USA series, "G vs E" so keep an eye out for that.

(Sept. 24th) The B5 Sim Game "Into the Fire" that was to be made by Sierra has been cancelled. Apparently they had to cut games for monetary reasons and the upcoming B5 game was one of the ones to go.

(Sept. 17th) A few notes on the doings of some ladies of B5. Claudia Christian is apparently baring it all and semi-all in a spread for the October '99 Playboy issue. I've been told that in one of the photos she's wearing a very interesting metallic thong.

In more tasteful news, Mira Furlan is appearing in a play called "Cranes" in New York, starting in October.

(Aug. 17th) I haven't seen the movie, personally I think it looks awful, but I've been informed that Pat Tallman was listed as a stunt double in the new Steve Martin/Eddie Murphy movie, "Bowfinger". You'll remember that Pat has been part of the stunt community for quite some time in such movies as Jurassic Park,Long Kiss Goodnight, and Austin Powers. She's also done stuntwork for all three Trek spin-offs.

(Aug. 5th) B5 merchandise news. JMS when asked in forum concerning new merchandise said there is a new set of cards from Fleer on it's way, good sized limited edition pewter and gold figurines of several B5 ships and the Excalibur, more books, and special collector's cards embedded with 30 second sound chips. (He didn't say what the sound chips would play.)

(July 17th) Everybody join in for a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY wish to our very own Great Maker, J.M.S.!! Happy Birthday, Joe!

(June 24th) Several interesting bits of news :

According to "Sci Fi TV" magazine Patricia Tallman (Lyta Alexander) and Jeffrey Willerth (the man inside the Kosh suit and also worked behind the scenes) started dating after the conclusion of Babylon 5 and recently announced their engagement. They have set an August wedding date.

Peter Jurasik will have a recurring role on Sci-Fi Channel's "Slider's". Jerry Doyle is also set to guest star on same series.

A sneak peek was given at the outer covering of the oft talked about in articles but not yet seen "apocalypse box" belonging to Capt. Gideon on "Crusade". Very cool looking, a cross between a coffee table and a coffin. (Coincidence?)

And finally, a small blurb on Entertainment Tonight announced Bruce Boxleitner's next project is playing TV and Rock and Roll star Ricky Nelson in a biographical TV movie.

(Jun 17th) Peter Jurasik is apparently currently recovering from heart surgery. I have no details on his exact problem or his surgery but my fondest wishes go out to him for a speedy recovery.

Well, Crusade has premiered. What did everybody think? Post your thoughts on my Message Board.

Also, got to my actualCrusade section to read Crusade updates.

(June 4th) AGGGH! TNT has struck again. According to their B5 calendar they've changed their "B5 night" line up on June 9th. They will now be showing it in the order of : The Crusade premiere "War Zone" first, followed by "A Call to Arms" (that's brilliant, replay the precursor to Crusade AFTER it's premiere) then "Thirdspace" & "River of Souls", dropping the showing of "In The Beginning" (any particular reason?). And last I heard B5 will be shown in a two hour block Saturday mornings now instead of appearing in the TNT afternoon lineup. That's the spot they found for it after their "program reshuffling"? But hey, don't hold your breath, I'm sure they'll change their minds yet again. Maybe 3 a.m. every other Thursday on months with no R in them, you think?

(June 2nd) "Save Crusade!" seems to be our rallying battle cry. Here's some links to support Crusade. Follow these links and find out what you can do to help, such as write letters, sign petitions, etc.

(Feb. 26th)

Here's the latest gut wrenching newsbreak concerning "Crusade." My P.O'ed commentary is at the bottom.

Feb. 26th, 1999
From: [email protected] (Jms at B5)
Newsgroups: rec.arts.sf.tv.babylon5.moderated
Subject: from jms re: Crusade
Date: 26 Feb 1999 14:07:43 -0700

Bottom line:

The reason we've been waiting so long for news is that the SciFi Channel has been crunching numbers for weeks, trying to make the deal work with WB, and doing their level best. The programming folks there loved the show (and special thanks has to go to Programming Head Tom Vitale at SFC who worked hardest to make this work).

The problem is simply this: the money to fund a series is a BIG chunk of change. SFC had already allocated its budget for the year as of January 1st, and there simply wasn't enough left in this year's budget to pull it off. Also, the emphasis now is on spending money on shows where one owns a piece of it, and Crusade is owned entirely by WB.

At the end of they day, they just couldn't make the dollars work, though they tried their damndest, and are only to be thanked.

I'm told that if the ratings are good on the 13 which TNT will still air, all the eps made so far will be shown, there may be a second season, but we'll see.

Meanwhile, I'm taking the day off. There have been seven offers for overall deals and multiple network pilot deals with both networks per se and studios on my desk for about a year now, ever since B5 ended, which I've been putting off to do Crusade. Now I'll pick one of those deals and make it. So the next thing from me you see will almost certainly be on one of the major networks. I'm going back into the deep water again....

Meanwhile, my thanks to all those who emailed and wrote and called and supported. It's a good show, as will be seen when the shows are aired, and I'd rather lose a show I believed in than keep one I didn't believe in.

Commentary: GAAAH! That is just soooo nasty. I have not understood TNT's behaviour towards the Crusade project since day one. Exactly what is their problem? If they don't "get" Sci Fi shows as JMS has stated elsewhere, why in the world did they agree to picking it up in the first place? It was known the coming "Crusade" was part of the package. And as far as I know, B5 has done very well there, especially the movies.

They promised major promotion for B5. The only big push I ever saw was for "In The Beginning", and the first month or so of season 5.....after that it seemed to fall thru the cracks. They never tried hard to promote any of the movies, half the promos I saw were very late at night. And now all the shoddy non support treatment with Crusade. I hope we all, the fans, let them know OUR support of the show, and let them realize we want it. Diplomatically of course. I'd like to read them the riot act too but that's not going to help anything, except to make their attitude worse. If you know of any fan supported movements in this direction let me know, I'd be glad to support it.

Note : Most of these pages contain spoilers and/or rumors. Read at your own risk. I try to point out that which is rumor from that which is stated in a magazine article or other forum.
