Space Cruiser Yamato is a Japanese animated series from the late seventies and early eighties. It was brought to United States and shown under the name of "Star Blazers." It was the first and most sophisticated animated series I had ever seen with a continuing story, growing characters and really awesome ships! In all there were three Seasons of Star Blazers and several Movies. There are several excellent web sites that cover Star Blazers and I suggest you check them out.
The following images are computer generated using a program called 3D Studio Max. The actual mathematical model is called a "mesh". It took me about a week, working in my spare time, to create the mesh of the Astrofighter.

Here are a couple more pictures of my latest work. A Comet Empire single deck carrier and the EETTA II fighter. Meshes Created by Jon Halter using 3d Studio Max 2.5 (Click on the images below for a larger image.) |

Here's a look at the Comet Empire High Speed Space Carrier. It's only about 70% done. Laid out before it is a Standard flight group consisting of 2 squadrons of Scorpion fighters and 1 of Eetta II fighters. How all those planes fit inside the Carrier you got me, perhaps they have folding wings and retractable tails. |

Here's a close up view of the lower detailed Comet Empire Eetta II fighter. It's a smaller counterpart to the Scorpion. Typical roles are escort, CAP (Combat Air/Space Patrol), and interception. |

I created this mesh one rainy afternoon. It's the Comet Empire Scorpion attack fighter. I used almost exclusively the Star Blazers Technical Manual for the blueprints. This is one mean fighter. Mesh Created by Jon Halter using 3d Studio Max 2.5 (Click on the images below for a larger image.) |

Top View of the Scorpion Fighter. Some of the detail is a little off but everyone should get the idea that this is not a Fighter to mess with. |
|
|
A look at the underside of the Scorpion. It packs a sting with 8 attack missiles. Not shown in this image the center assembly, by the engines, opens to launch even more missiles. |

Here is a couple of renderings of the Comet Empire Bringer of Victory class Space Battleship. I used several sources to model this ship including the Star Blazers Technical Manual and the plastic Mecha Collection model kit. This is my latest mesh. It is a fairly low detailed mesh of the EDF Gearing class Space Destroyer. This class of Destroyer is seen in the second Star Blazers series: The Comet Empire. Mesh created by Jon Halter |

I have completely rebuilt my EDF Battleship mesh ( Special thanks to Bill Gunmundson for lots of EDF BB information ) The complexity of this model is about five times more then my first attempt at modeling this ship. I don't know if I will release this model on the web simply because of it's sheer size. The mesh is currently at 5 megabytes and growing. Note: This mesh is not texture mapped yet.
