Argo(Yamato):
History: The culmination of years of design study combined with the new Wave motion technology received from Iscandar. The Argo was a marvel of engineering, combining Earth’s tried Ship construction techniques with the incredible power afforded by the new technology. However, as with all untested technology, the potential of failure was great. The Argo turned out to be one of the most stable designs in the Earth Defense Force. Designed from the ground up to be able to withstand damage, the armored hull of the Argo could take an incredible amount of punishment and remain intact. Extensive damage control systems were incorporated from the beginning to give the Argo the ability to repair itself while in deep space and far away from any EDF repair stations.
The heart of the Argo was the massive Wave Motion Engine. This Engine along with two smaller conventional engines could propel the Argo at considerable speeds. The Wave Motion Engine also gave birth to the Wave Motion Gun, a weapon so powerful that it could destroy a ship in a single discharge. This along with a powerful suite of Shock Cannons, Missile Bays, Defensive Laser Turrets and Star fighters gave the Argo incredible firepower.
The Argo’s successful voyage to Iscandar and back validated the design of the Ship. The Argo was superior to any ship in the Gamalon Fleet. Time and time again the ship beat incredible odds and survived extensive damage to bring home the Cosmo DNA and save the Earth.
Refits: Just prior to the Comet Empire War the Argo received an extensive refit. The Wave Motion Engine was upgraded to provide more power. This resulted in a wave motion gun that could fire faster and with more power. The Main Shock Cannons were refitted as well, giving them a 50% greater range then before. Also the Argo was upgraded to carry the new AstroFighter II type fighter and carried two squadrons for the duration of the war.

EDF BattleShip
History: The Argo, Although a phenomenally successful design, was built in haste using relatively new and untested technology. The EDF Battleship was the next evolutionary step in wave motion technology. Unlike the jack of all trades Argo, the Battleship was designed with a specific role, assigned in a fleet setting. The Battleship was not designed as an independent unit and was always intended to be escorted by smaller cruiser and destroyer ships. The small number of defensive laser turrets on the Battleship shows that the designers felt that these ships would not come under direct starfighter or missile attack and would rely on smaller escorting vessels for protection from those weapons systems. Offensively the firepower of the battleship was considerable, was only slightly less powerful then the Argo. This specialization resulted in a design was more limited then the Argo but also substantially cheaper to construct.

Super Battleship Andromida Class:
History: The Andromida was intended to be the ultimate flagship of the Earth Defense Force. It was designed to be the ultimate battleship in space. The Andromida Had a large Wave motion engine that could power twin Wave Motion Guns in the bow of the ship. Fired in tandem they were almost twice as powerful as the Argo’s Wave Motion gun. Also the charge cycle was shorter then the Argo’s as well. The Andromida also carried four Heavy Shock Cannon turrets with computer AI targeting systems. Like almost all EDF capital ships the Andromida was not equipped with many Defensive Laser turrets, instead relying on escorting ships for protection from fighters and missiles. The Andromida also had a sub-space flare system installed that could reveal ships hidden in sub space. Although it is unknown how many Andromida class ships were constructed the original Andromida was destroyed at the battle of Saturn, when it rammed the white Comet, all hands were lost.

EDF Battle Carrier
History: Constructed at the same time as the Battleship the Battle Carrier shares many common components, making construction quicker and cheaper then creating a brand new design. The front half of the ship is almost identical to the battleship, only the back half is different. A large gravity flight deck and hangered landing deck take up the majority of the aft. The engine had to be totally redesigned for the Battle Carrier however and it did not have as much raw power as the EDF Battleship.
The Battle Carrier carries almost a hundred fighters and bombers. In the Comet Empire War, star fighters from EDF carriers wiped out almost the entire Comet Empire Carrier Fleet in a surprise attack. Unfortunately the EDF carriers were later destroyed when their under powered engines could not pull them out of the gravitational field of the White Comet itself and they were destroyed.
Refits: There was a rumored redesign of the Battle Carrier’s Wave Motion Engine after the EDF defeat at Saturn. The new design would have been visually identical to the original Battle Carrier but would have provided an additional 20% more power to ships systems.

EDF Cruiser ( Battle Cruiser )
History: The EDF cruiser bridged the gap between the large capital ships and smaller Escorting vessels. The EDF cruiser class was constructed with the idea of it being able to operate independently from the fleet. Though small the cruiser was heavily armed with multiple weapons systems. This created a powerful ship unfortunately it is relatively lightly armored for a ship it’s size. It served in many roles while in service; including convoy escort, long range recon and exploration.

EDF Patrol Cruiser
History: The Patrol Cruiser is very similar in design to the EDF Battle Cruiser. However it does sacrifice some of it’s defensive laser turrets for long range sensor arrays. Like the Battle Cruiser it is capable of operating independently. Although several Patrol cruisers do serve in most fleets in a scouting role.

EDF Destroyer
History: The EDF Destroyer is small, Fast and covered with many defensive laser turrets. Even the Ships light shock cannon turrets can effectively engage small targets like fighters and missiles. The Destroyer is equipped with a light Wave Motion gun. Although far less powerful then the Wave Motion Guns of capital ships the light Wave motion gun can make the Destroyer a threat to much larger capital ships. Assigned to squadrons, these ships are found escorting the EDF heavyweights like the battleship and battle carrier. Fatalistic in nature, the role of the Destroyer is to protect the larger capital ships at all costs. The fact that larger capital ships are lacking in defensive weaponry makes it doubly important that the destroyers accompany the big ships in battle.
