Genis: "You have no idea how much I'm going to enjoy this."

Genis stands facing Nitro, the human bomb.

Nitro: What are you laughin' about smilin' boy? I got no idea how you found me, you just popped outta nowheres, but it don't matter. I killed your old man, I'll do the same to you."

Genis streaks at Nitro, connecting hard with a powerful left cross

Ba-KOW!

Genis: "Wrong thing to say old man.!"

Nitro: "UNNGH! "

He rolls to the ground, wiping blood from his lip.

Nitro: "Wrong move you made kid. To quote one a my favorite movies, "Wake up, Time to die!*"

*Who can name the movie Nitro's quoting? There's a no prize involved for the correct answer.

Nitro explodes, tossing Captain Marvel a hundred feet into the air.

Genis: "Arrgh!"

Nitro reforms instantly.

Nitro: " This is gonna be fun squirt."

Genis rights himself in mid air and zooms back towards his enemy .

Genis: "Yeah old man, but for who?"

Captain Marvel blasts his photon beams at the villain, blowing him across the city block, painfully!

Shh-Kow!

Genis: "Still having fun dirt bag?"

Nitro: " Uugggh! Kid, you just made this personal, and beyond fun."

He explodes again, reforming quickly and exploding yet again.

Boom!

Booom!

Nitro: "I'll raze this whole freakin' city boy. To destroy you, anything goes!"

Genis: (Those last two blasts didn't get anywhere near me, what's he doing? All that happened was him causing fear among the locals. In fact , where the heck am I?)

Captain Marvel reaches outwards with his cosmic awareness, and suddenly he knows!

Genis: (I thought I was in New York, but obviously not. This is Cancun, Mexico. This guy must've been laying low.)

Genis rockets in, faster then the eye can see, and pounds Nitro with a powerful right, that knocks him into and through a car.

Ba-Koom!

Nitro explodes powerfully as he lands, catching Captain Marvel in the blast.

Braooomm!

Genis: (uunngh! That one hurt. And......) "OH NO! Those people!"

There are half a dozen people laying unconscious and worse from the blasts in the street. Nitro begins to reform, but Captain Marvel fires his photon blasts through the reforming haze, dispersing Nitros' essence

Shhh-Kow!

Nitros's ghost-like form screams painfully as the photonic power spreads his atomic structure thin.

Genis: (Now, while he's disoriented...)

Captain Marvel swoops down to street level, clearing debris and ruined vehicles for the emergency services to get through.

Genis: (These people are in pain and Nitro will reform any second. I HAVE to buy the EMS people some time.)

Once more Captain Marvel reaches outwards with his Cosmic Awareness, searching, touching and suddenly.... he strikes!

Streaking off he attacks the exact spot Nitro was reforming at, with a powerful blow, that vibrates the very air around him!

Ba-KOOOM!

Nitro is hurled through the air like so much flotsam by the punch!

Nitro : "Unnngh!"

Nitro: "First round to you kid, that hurt. But you ain't gettin' ol' Nitro that easily."

He explodes an instant before Genis realizes what he's doing, over a spot Genis never realized he was standing over. The gas main reverberates with the explosion Nitro sets off, setting the entire block aflame!

Genis: "Sonuva...."

He rides the blast out, then swoops down to help everyone affected by Nitros distraction.

Hours later......

Captain Marvel stands with the Chief of Police for Cancun, as both men survey the damage wrought by the villainous Nitro.

Genis: "He got away. I should have no trouble tracking him down with my powers though*. I'll find him."

*Genis refers to his Cosmic awareness.

Chief Sanchez: "No Senor, please do not do us anymore favors por favor. I do not think my beautiful town can survive it."

Genis: "Look Chief, I'm sorry Nitro got away, he's a punk villain who happens to have a lot of power, as well as a considerable amount of invulnerability. I guess that's just a natural extension of his powers though."

Sanchez: "Si, I would think having the ability to explode oneself many times, you would have to be tough eh?"

Genis: "Yeah, seems that way Chief. Look, you want to handle this yourself, then fine. Be my guest. I'm outta here."

Sanchez: "My friend, wait. You have done much to help us this dreadful afternoon, Our town would like to offer you our hospitality this evening. Please take this room at the "Condessa Americana", as well as dinner on us at "Carlos and Charlies" as a token of our appreciation."

Genis takes the room key, as well as the dinner passes from the Chief, as a smile covers his youthful face.

Genis: "Yeah, why not, thanks Chief. I need a break as it is. Maybe a day or two here in this paradise is what I need to clear my head after the past few weeks.*"

And so it goes.. Captain Marvel eats a hearty dinner at the restaurant, while watching a band play. He jokes with young women who approach him for autographs, he even dances with a few. For the first time in a long, long time he relaxes. And then through the crowd , he sees...her.

A beautiful auburn haired girl approaches him, with just the right amount of sway to her hips, and a smile that lights up the night.

Girl: "Hi."

Genis: " Hi yourself. What's up?"

Girl " Just wanted to introduce myself."

She extends her hand.

Girl: "My names Angie."

Genis takes her hand and playfully kisses it.

Genis: "You already know who I am."

Page 11

Angie: "Not really. Should I call you "Captain" ? Or "The Captain"? Or maybe "Marvelous man"?"

Genis grins hugely

Genis: " Well Marvelous man is a little much, considering we just met, and I wouldn't want to color your first impression TOO much. You can call me Genis."

She goes to smack him playfully, with a huge grin herself. He smilingly avoids her slap as both laugh.

Angie: "So what does a lady have to do to get a guy to ask her to dance?"

Genis: "I don't know, what?"

She grabs his arm and drags him out onto the dance floor as the band begins to play a slow song . Genis holds this stranger, this unknown girl and dances slowly. Enjoying himself more and more with every step.

Genis: (This must be what it's like. What a normal life must feel like. This is so .....cool. This girl. Man she's beautiful.)

She looks into his eyes, her own sparkling moonlight, as the great , full orb lights up the night sky above.

Angie: "Whatcha thinking about sailor?"

Genis looks into her eyes and feels himself being drawn in.

Genis: I'm thinking about how lucky I am to have a great night like this, and a beautiful girl like you in my arms to share it with. Where 're you from Angie?"

Angie: "Colorado. I'm a Junior in college there. I'm down here for the semester break with some friends."

Genis: "What's your major? "

They continue the slow dance as they talk, lost in each other.

Angie: "Law, but if you ask anyone else, they'll tell you snowboarding, or skiing. Depending on the day."

Genis: "Hahaha, very cool. How long are you down here for?"

Angie: "What's this , 20 questions? Just shut up and kiss me!"

She leans forward and her lips press against his own. He's momentarily stunned, but he goes with it. The air, the drinks, the music softly playing in the background . All of it add to this very special night for the young hero, who has had an all to strange life. It feels amazing he thinks, to just be a normal young man , if even for a short time.

Angie: " So what's it like ?"

They walk back to the table Genis was sitting at earlier and both sit.

Genis: "What?"

Angie: "Being a hero, flying around (She points her hand upwards and rotates it) up there.

Genis: "It's , I don't know, I guess I take it for granted really. I never think about it t'tell you the truth. It just is very every day to me."

Angie: "You're kidding right? I mean man has wanted to fly for , like eons. You do it , through space for Gods sake, and you take it for granted? Wow. "

Genis: "Well I suppose it's like driving a car for you. You just get in it and go. Yet I've never driven one. So what's that like?"

Angie: "Ummm, hhhmm. I guess I see your point."

Genis: "Well I can show it to you from a different perspective too."

Angie: "Fresh!"

She playfully slaps at him again.

Genis: Not what I meant actually Angie, though the thought...."

Both laugh as he puts his arms around her and kisses her again. She closes her eyes, enjoying the moment. He slowly pulls away.

Genis: "You can open 'em now Ang."

She opens her eyes, and immediately lets out a yelp

Angie: "AAA! I-I'm flying!"

She looks down as they float half a mile above the restaurant. Instantly she clings to Genis a bit more tightly.

Genis: "This is what it's like Angie. Like what you see? "

She turns back to him, her eyes looking deeply into his own.

Angie: "I did that about an hour ago sailor. C'mere."

They kiss again, this time with greater passion. Both enjoying the others presence and being. All the while floating across the great , lit paradise. The night is alive, as Captain Marvel's photon trail lights the way behind them, as Genis arcs down to his Hotel room.

Angie: "Gee Genis, what kind of girl do you think I am?"

Genis smiles once more, totally going with the moment.

Genis: "The kind I'd like to know better."

Angie grabs the door knob and opens it for them both. It shuts with a "click" behind them.

Hours later.......Genis sits up in bed, watching TV, as Angie sleeps next to him. He flips the channels , still grinning to himself like a school boy. When suddenly something makes him stop playing with the remote. He zeros in on the TV screen as a special message plays across it.

Genis: "What the---"

The screen displays a scene of carnage, as the Mexican army is being driven back by huge explosions. Tanks lay shattered, as men fire their weapons blindly and chaotically. Then a figure momentarily coalesces into view, before disappearing in a blast once more.

Genis: "Nitro!"

Angie turns over, awakened by his voice.

Angie:" Hhhmm? What's up sailor?"

Genis leans over and kisses her gently.

Genis: "Something I have to take care of hon. A bad guy I should've dumped when I got here. "

Angie: "I guess you have to go. Just be careful okay? I like what I found here tonight, and don't want to lose it before I really get to know it."

Genis: "Just wait here for me. I'll be back before you know it."

They kiss once more, and then he's gone. Flying off the balcony in a flash of photons.

Angie lays back down and smiles to herself , once more falling back asleep.

Captain Marvel rockets across the countryside, his face grows dark as it reflects the cosmos, his cosmic awareness pinpointing Nitro' exact location . Captain Marvel streaks a hundred fifty miles further south in an eye blink.

Genis: ( This guy is really starting to annoy me now. First night that I've enjoyed myself in way to long and this dirtbag has to ruin it. Man is he going to pay.)

Captain Marvel arcs down into Nitro, just as he reforms. Genis' powerful right sends the villain sprawling.

SPRAAK!

Nitro : "Unnngh!"

Genis presses his advantage, spinning around and delivering a powerful left that knocks Nitro a hundred feet across the mountain their standing on.

Boom!

Genis: "Time to end this Nitro. I owe you for a couple of things now punk. No more games. No more wasted time with you . No more hurt families because of you. No more pain ."

Nitro : "Wha? Y-you stay back you freakin' maniac."

He begins to trigger an explosion once more, but this time Captain Marvel is ready, as a photon blast slams into Nitros' chest the instant before his explosion, throwing him back , and over the rim of the mountain top they're standing on.

Ba-BOOOM!

The explosion rocks the ground that Genis stands on, and then he realizes why. They've been fighting on a long dormant volcano . At least it was dormant, before Nitro exploded in its cone. The river of Lava heading towards Captain Marvel now says otherwise.

Captain Marvel - I LOVE your take on Thanos. His apology to his father (of

a sort)

was actually the first time I've ever understood him. I loved Genis's

meeting with his father as well. I wish that he had remembered that

meeting, at least before he died. Any chance we can see him actually meet

Spidey soon? Anyway, keep up the great work!

One never knows TJ . We may be seeing the web slinger back in these pages before to long, but after next issue, Genis is back into space , for at least a while. As I've got some more nastiness planned to ruin his life for a bit.

I had more mail here too, but I seemed to have lost it for some reason. Oh well, sorry guys. I'll be more dilligent about it in the future
