His father was the greatest of Heroes, saving
the entire universe from subjugation time and time again! Now he must continue that
tradition , his powers are the same, but his outlook is different. He wields the mighty
Nega bands and has the Celestial insight of Cosmic Awareness. The universe is his
inheritance, for he is its Protector as he struggles to find his place amidst the Heavens,
his buds call him Genis, but he's known and feared by his enemies as....
The scene: Captain Marvel stands just below the rim of a long
dormant volcano in central Mexico, the only problem is, it's dormant no more! Nitro, the
exploding man was hurled into the volcano by Captain Marvel, and exploded himself yet
again, triggering the volcano to erupt for the first time in ages! *
*All this and more you was in last issue. If you missed it, shame
on you!
Captain Marvel stares disbelieving as a wall of molten lava flows
towards him, and even worse, towards the town far below.
Thoughts flash through his mind, "I don't believe this! I
was so bent at Nitro that I wasn't paying attention to where we were. How stupid can I be?
That whole village is in danger now because of my reckless behavior."
Captain Marvel rockets upwards in a blast of photon power, above
the river of molten rock that descends on the hapless village below.
"Man, this sucks! ." He thinks," No doubt that
lava wouldn't even give me a sun burn, I've flown through stars, but those people down
below are another matter all together. Time to divert that river of death."
Genis flies ahead of the lava, then once far enough from it, he
unleashes his photon blasts, digging huge furrows in the ground, forming deep tracks for
the lava to flow through, missing the town and circumventing it entirely, leading the lava
to the ocean far away in the distance.
"All right! Looks like I'm not the loser I made myself out
to be."
Below the people in the small Mexican Village cheer Captain
Marvel on as he finishes creating his lava run-offs to the ocean.
"There!" He shouts to himself," Done. Now where's
the dirtbag who started all this? Where's Nitro?"
Concentrating his cosmic awareness Captain Marvel magnifies the
presence of Nitro, and instantly pinpoints him!
: "Uh-uh old man, it's not gonna be that easy."
In a flash of photons, he's gone! Streaking to the other side of
the still rumbling volcano, targeting a figure skulking away in the confusion. Rocketing
around in front of his adversary, Genis pounds him with a devastating right!
Pok!
Angrily Captain Marvel lands in front of the stunned Nitro
"Going somewhere Nitro? I don't think so."
"Unngh! Freakin' Punk! I'll kill you!"
Ba-Boom!
Nitro explodes once more, but Captain Marvel is ready this time,
using his cosmic awareness to pinpoint the exact instant of Nitros detonation, Genis
streaks away in a blur of speed , avoiding the deadly explosion, then arcs back upon his
foe with an earth shaking left that sends Nitro sprawling!
Ba-KOOM!
"Give it up Nitro. I can keep this up all day, can
you?"
"Ooooffgh, no boy," Nitro growls through bloody
teeth,"No I can't . You've taken a lot out of me, but it ain't enough. I'll end this
freakin fight on my terms punk, not yours."
Boom!
He explodes again, again Captain Marvel avoids the blast, only
this time...
"Time to wrap this up." Thinks Genis.
Once again Genis-Vells face grows still as it begins to reflect
the cosmos itself, as his mind and more reach out and embrace the cosmos, becoming one
with it until....
"NOW!" He shouts
Pa-BOOOM!
At the exact spot Nitro was reforming at , and at the exact
instant of the reformation, Captain Marvel unleashes the full fury of his photon beams,
scattering the essence of the suddenly shredded Nitro to the four winds!
Moving quickly Genis grabs a nearby Tank left abandoned and
destroyed in the Mexican Armies battle with Nitro* and lifting the fifty ton shattered and
broken shell above his head, he slams it down over Nitros slowly reassembling form,
trapping half his essence within the tanks empty hull, and half without.

"There," Brushing his hands together as he
thinks,"That should hold this creep for now until Reed Richards or someone can get
here and put a permanent cap on him."
Once more the villagers below cheer Captain Marvel on as he rises
upwards above the town and the slowly moving lava flow.
Genis looks down at the still churning volcano."One last
thing to do here. Here comes the hardest part."
Flying above the bubbling, frothing volcano, Captain Marvel
begins to concentrate on his Nega bands. The golden glowing bracelets glow more powerfully
as he begins to slowly absorb the heat away from the Volcano, cooling the lava mass below
the volcanos' crown, drawing massive quantities of heat into himself, until he too is
glowing like a star!
"Gotta get rid of this excess heat, NOW!"
In a blur he's gone! Accelerating until he's at the very edge of
space, and once there he unleashes the totality of the heat he just absorbed , in an
astounding blast of power , that for a minute, transforms the sky in that hemisphere into
an area with seemingly two stars lighting its sky!
Minutes later, a tired Captain Marvel returns to the hotel room
in Cancun that was given him by a grateful Mexican people*

Entering his suite, he finds ...
"Angie? Gone."*

It's a statement, not a question, His cosmic awareness already
telling him what he suspected. But tired from his long battle and subsequent absorbing of
energies as well as release of the same, the man known as Captain Marvel falls asleep in
the midday sun, as it peeks through his rooms closed shades. Then do the dreams begin.
Genis dreams of a man, more like a God, he met several short
months ago. His name was Uwey, and he was the master of the Sun!* In his dream Genis-Vell
is drawn close to the ethereal "Uwey" as the Suns master begins to speak.. They
are surrounded by blazing starlight, as once again, Captain Marvel finds himself standing
in the blazing heart of the Star!

"Captain Marvel, called Genis-Vell, You have failed me. Evil
has won the day and there is naught any can do ."
Genis shakes his head disbelieving "What are you talking
about Uwey? I defeated "Black Sun" a while ago. All was put aright. Why are you
laying this on me now?"
"Because," Begins Uwey, "Black Sun was not the
only evil you were to face. Black Sun was defeated , yes. But the other who defeated you
now holds Black Suns reins. He controls all of creation. And creation is already doing his
bidding. He has won."
"What in the names of Chaos and Order are you talking
about?" Shouts Genis, obviously angered and more then a little perplexed."If
there was a danger, my Cosmic Awareness would've warned me about it in advance. How can
there be any problem If I don't sense it?"
"Because Captain, if your senses reveal nothing is amiss
with the Universe , then your foe has already won the day. In essence, he has made his
vision of the Universe the correct one. And so, you vaunted senses are now reacting
naturally to the supposed natural state of the cosmos. To your Cosmic Awareness, nothing
is wrong." Uwey folds his arms inside his golden robe as he allows Genis to
contemplate this.
Finally Genis answers Uwey, after several seconds of thought.
"So you're telling me to not trust my most powerful gift? To go with my gut instinct
instead? How do I know this isn't just a nightmare reaction from last nights chilli?"
Uwey smiles, a God-like gesture in its benevolent nature,
"You will know Genis -Vell, you will know. Now leave this place. I wish you
providence in the coming battle, but in truth I fear, the tomes have all been written, and
my alerting you to his presence is a fruitless act. But I suppose only time will tell. You
will gain allies in the coming battle Genis, from an unfamiliar source, but one that will
be useful nonetheless. Beyond that I can give you no hope, false or otherwise. Goodbye
young warrior, young protector!"
Slowly Genis feels himself retreating from the presence of Uwey ,
pulling back as a camera does when a telephoto lens is reversed, and suddenly he sits bolt
upright in his bed!
He tears the covers from himself, to reveal his costume, only
it's not his costume. Its his fathers battle garb, only the colors are reversed ! Where
his father wore blue, he wears red! The points of the boots top are also inverted, so the
upwards point, now is a downwards "V". He realizes he is mask-less. Lastly, the
chest emblem, the eight pointed star is over the left side of his chest, as it was on his
uniform.
"What the hell?" He stammers. Making his way to the
mirror he stares at his reflection, in it his hair is golden now instead of silver. What's
more, photon particles dance around his hair, glimmering in the evening air. And the it
hits him..."Evening? I've been asleep for hours? But I wasn't asleep, was I? "He
questions aloud, holding his chin in thought. "Time to go, to get back to Titan
."
Captain Marvel quickly locks the room and leaves the key on the
night stand near his bed. Then with a flash, he's off the balcony and accelerating upwards
in the warm Mexican moonlight, towards the beckoning stars above.
"I better make time here and open a hyper-space
conduit." he muses to himself.
Concentrating, Captain Marvel opens the gateway to hyper-space
and rockets through, to emerge almost instantly on the other side of his portal, and to
approach ...
"Titan" He beams, "And home."
Diving down towards one of the entry ports , Captain Marvel
descends into Titans living area, and immediately the words of "Uwey" ring loud
in his mental ears. His cosmic awareness tell him nothing is amiss, but his vision says
otherwise! Below him, and stretching as far as the eyes can see are row after row of neat
small houses, as if from some nineteen fifties version of Earthly suburbia.
"Whoa! What do I do here? Where do I go? Do I try to find
Mom and Eros and Mentor ?" He decides he has no other choice, but to try.
Concentrating his cosmic awareness outwards he finds the persona
of Elysius, his mother, and dives towards it. A nondescript home with a flower garden and
white picket fence surrounding it are his destination . Landing softly , he sees
"neighbors" mowing their lawns and working on their cars, all wave at him
congenially as if it were a normal Saturday morning in the 'burbs. Shaking his head, Genis
enters the white gate he landed outside of. Its creaking hinge seemingly in need of
oiling, he opens the gate and walks slowly inside the property, mystified by his
surroundings.
Genis opens the front door, ready for anything, anything that is
, except what greets him.
"Genis!" Elysius shouts with delight, I wasn't expecting you home so early! I'll put up another plate."
Captain Marvel is stunned! His mother is wearing an apron and
house dress, and holds a wooden spoon in her hand, as he can hear pots boiling on the
stove in the unseen as yet kitchen. Wide eyed, his jaw dropped to the ground, Genis
doesn't know what to say. She gestures him to sit on the sofa in the living room, and he
does quietly. He finds an old black and white Television on , showing an episode of a
nineteen fifties program.
"Father knows best?" Genis blurts out,
A voice from behind startles him even more, "Yes my boy,
nothing wrong with the highest rated show in America, is there?"
Genis turns and sees Eros, the Avenger known as Starfox walking
into the room, holding a newspaper under his arm and smoking a pipe.
"N-no Eros, n-nothing at all." Is all
Captain Marvel can stammer out.....

Hey Ralph! Your Captain Marvel run keeps getting
better and better! Seeing Genis
face of against the man that killed his father was
a great idea and I was very
pleased to see him enjoy smacking him around like
that! So Genis finally gets an
earthbound supporting cast, eh? That's great and
something I had hoped would
happen for quiet a while. Keep up the good work!
