"Dey can't do this ta us, Jack!" cried Blink.
"Yeah!" echoed the rest of the newsies.
"Dere da Spice Girls, dey can do whateva dey want." Race said cynically. The newsies murmured to themselves. "C'mon, whata' we gonna do? We don't got any a dat Gihl Powa', so lets just get our lousy papes while dey still got em." Race argued.
"No, wait. Jus' lemme think." Jack said, wrinkling his forehead. The newsies squirmed around, waiting for Jack to finish thinking.
"Hey! What's going on?" a new voice asked.
"Aww, hey Angie." Jack said, distracted. Angela surveyed the slightly shocked looking newsies sitting around the square. "I see you've met the Spice Girls." she observed.
"Yeah." answered the newsies.
"Yeah, I just, uh, saw them back there. So what's going on? Why are you all just sitting around here?" Angela asked.
"The Spice Goyls started singin' dis morning durin' Newsie Singing Hour." Lynn answered. Angela's jaw dropped. "No," she gasped, "they couldn't have! Nobody sings during Newsie Singing Hour but the newsies!" The newsies nodded in agreement. "We gotta do somethin'." Blink said.
"How bout a strike?"
"Aww, Jack!" cried all the newsies.
"What?! It's a good idea!" Jack cried indignantly.
"No it ain't!" cried Race.
"There's nothing to go on strike against!" Davy added.
"Oh." mumbled Jack, feeling stupid. Angela patted Jack on the shoulder. "Well, I thought I was a good idea." she ventured. "Yeah, me too." Lynn agreed.
"AHHHHHHHH!" cried Blink. The newsies gasped. "Dey're commmiiiinnnnngggg!" screamed Lynn. The newsies gaped in horror as they watched the Spice Girls running down the street towards them. How they managed to do it in their six inch platforms no one knows but they did. "Cheese it!" yelled Jack, jumping to his feet. Cries of terror erupted from the newsies. They scattered in all directions, trying to get away. Jack hustled Lynn and Angela down an ally. In the distance they could hear cries of frightened newsies.
"Ahhhh! Dey got me! Jack, some one, help meeeeeee!" Blink screamed. Jack, Angela, and Lynn turned around shocked. Jack started to turn back, but Angela stopped him. "It's too late now," she said remorsefully, "there's nothing we can do." Jack nodded. The three of them shared a moment of silence, in remembrance of their pal, Blink.
"How could dey do it? Aww, why? I's Spot Conlon, da most feahed newsie in alla New Yawk. Awhh, how could dey do dis ta me..." a familiar voice lamented.
"Spot?" Jack, Angela, and Lynn asked, surprised. This was unusual behavior for Spot. Whining? To himself? Something was up.
"Spot, are youse all right?" Lynn asked, eying him.
"Aww, leave me alone," he whined, " I's need ta think, ok? Geez, how could dey ave done it..." Spot walked off, muttering to himself.
"What have they done to him?" Angela asked, shocked.
"It's dem Spice Goyls. Dey's gotta be stopped." Jack said, determined.
