The Travelers -

VII : Salvin And Trevrin In The City -

So now Salvin was walking down the streets of Waterdeep going towards his destination, the guild of The Watchful Order Of Magistrates & Protectors, commonly known as The Guild Of Wizardry. He was just now coming into view in wich the order was located. Salvin himself was not part of the guild but he was about to remedy that. To enter the guild he new it cost roughly thirty gold peices but right now he had more then enough to pay. He particularly wanted to join because members of the guild often help each others in study's and offer lower prices for identification and spell components and just the library was extensive. Salvin was wondering why he hadn't joined before and decided it must have been the shortage of money. -

Salvin entered the guild through it's double doors and saw a room before him. A desk with a clerk was to his right and a bulletin board was beside this desk. To the left there were stairs leading up to the higher levels of the tower and also leading down to the basement. There was also a hallway in wich many doors open into other chambers. Salvin walked up to the clerk, the man was dressed in a dark purple cloak, with a white human hand, open, fingers together and uppermost, on the left shoulder. Salvin introduced himself. "Hoy there fellow user of magic, I be Salvin Lightleaf, I am looking for a membership to this here fine guild." -

The man lifted his head from all his paperwork and spoke, "Well you seem to be speaking the truth and I judge you to be a good fellow." The man shakes hands with Salvin. "Well I'm Orlar Thammas, speaker of the guild. If you really want to join the guild you'll have to fill out these forms. And when your done, and we see all the forms are in order, you'll be votedby the giuld leaders and if it's anonymous your in." The clerk handed the elf a pile of paper, a quill, some ink and pointed to a desk who, Salvin thought hadn't been there before and the elf began filling his forms out. -

About an hour and a half later Salvin finally sat up from his seat, stretch, and walked to the desk. He laid down his forms and asked "Orlar, when will I be notified of my acceptance into the guild?" -

"Well, there is the small matter of the fee. You see you must pay an entrance fee and there after you must pay on a monthly basis. The fee is thirty-five gold peices and the monthly due is of 7 gold peices. You seem to be an adventurer so it seems that this fee is not too high. You should be notified by this evening. I like to do things as fast as possible so that the guild can move on." -

"I do not want to deal with money later so I will give you the thirty-five now and also fourteen to cover for two months. Yes I know I'm not in yet but if I'm rejected I will come back for it." Salvin said leaving the said amount on the desk and left. -

"He's a wierd one. But are we not all in our own little way. He seemed to be nice enough, and he sure looked loaded. A fine addition to the guild he'll be." Orlar commented to himself after Salvin left. -

Salvin then had nothing else he could to this day. He had planned to join the guild and get some trainning in the mystic arts from another member for a fee but still lower than if he was a non-member. He would of also gotten some help to copy his new scroll spells and read his Guid To Bone And Doll Golems, he had aquired in Klatons tower. He then decided to read his guid anyway, so as to have a general idea of what it contained. So thus Salvin retreated to his room in the Weary Traveler. -

Trevrin followed Salvin out of The Ravens Eye and down the road. They split apart near the middle of town, Salvin heading left and Trevring heading right. Trevrin had been going over the recent battles in the tower and in the sewer in his mind. He had come to the conclusion that he had gained much experience and now he needed to learn how to use this to excell in his proffesion as a ranger. He was then heading over to the Warriors And Archers guild. He was already a member of the place and so when he reached the huge building he walked in and showed his brooch with the guild's ensigna on it to a clerk. A sword standing verticly and two arrows forming an "X" over the sword is the simble of the guild. But the clerk stopped him and said, "excuse me, uhh" the man looked at the name on the brooch "it seems that you owe the guild your due for thins month, do you have it on you?". -

Trevrin took out a pouch and told the fat clerk "here are the dues for the rest of the yaer and leave me alone." Trevrin wasn't in the mood for clerks. He wanted his training and now. He first went to see his khopesh trainer. The man was the only highly skilled user of the khopesh in all of Waterdeep and most of the north. This man knew this and so did his purse for his price was hefty. This imported nothing to him for he views money as a commodity that a person can use to replace work. A man can buy a rabbit, or he could hunt a live one. Trevrin wasn't a man to do things the easy way. He thought every one should be like him and he let them know he was takeing the ward way usually by complaining. -

"Hoy there, Eron, how are you? I need some help with a new tecnique in the use of my khopesh's. I you free to train me?" Trevrin asked as he steped up to a man who was older then but just as strong and built. -

"Ahh, Trevrin, where have you been? I think I can squeeze you in right now if you have time. Do you have the money to pay?" Trevrin reached to his belt and grasped a bag fastened there and throughit to Eron. So with that the two rangers walked to a mat and sparred for many hours on end. Then the pair headed outside to a shouting ranged and practiced shouting douzens of arrows upon douzens of arrows. So the day whent by fairly quickly. This proces, the pay, the sparring, the shouting whent on for everyday for a week. At the end Trevrin was truly a better warrior. -

After his training Trevrin whent to one of Waterdeeps many sages in hope he could tell him what his silver ring was and did. "What are you crazy three hundred gold for you to tell me what a lousy ring does! I'll pay two hundred, no more." -

"All right young man I'll take two hundred. Now let's see this ring." Trevrin then handed the sage, an elderly man, he seemed to have traveled the world and then some. The old one looked over the ring carefully and handed it back to the ranger to whom it belonged. "Well this ring, when worn will help you avoid attacks. A worthy possesion for an adventurer such as yourself. Now for my payment." Trevrin handed the man a small sack of coins and a small gem. He then inturn left, with his ring on his finger. -

Later that evening Salvin finally put down his guid. He had now realized that, to him, his guid was useless. A bone golem could only be constructed in the demiplane of dread. A place Salvin never wanted to go to. The doll golem on the other hand could be made in the plane, but, only by a priest. Salvin decided that he whould try to trade his tome to a member of the guild of wizardry. -

At that moment a knock was heard at his door. Salvin open the light single portal and a male child was standing there. In his hand he held a letter, sealed with the seal of the guild Salvin was hoping to join. -

"You be Salvin Lightleaf?" the boy asked. Salvin nodded. "This letter is for you, it's from Orlar Thammas." Salvin sent the boy away, closed his door and whent to the desk in the room. He sat down and opened the letter, it read: -

My Dear Salvin, -

The council and I have been through your - forms and all seems to be in order. We held a vote and, not to my surprise, you where unanomously voted into the guild. You have already payed you're dues so as of the moment you may use The Watchfull Order Of Magists & Protectors facility's as you wich. You shall, on entering the guild recieve your official robe, wich you shall be expected to wear at all official city holidays and special occaisions. -

Welcome to the guild. Orlar Thammas -

Salvin was now an official member of the guild. Knowing that he had accomplished what he had set out to do this day he settled in for the night. -

Next: What Mykael and Blane did after leaving Majest's shop. -
