VIII : Mykael And Blane In The City

Mykael haveing left Majest's magic shop, his pockets full of coin, headed for the Thief's Guild. Mykael was a registered member of this guild. Although he owed the guild over fifty gold coins in dues. Mykael entered the building that seemed to be made up rather than flat. He tried to act cool and showed his i.d. and strolled past the guards and front office clerc. He got in but then a strong arm grabed him up off his feet.

"You Mykael Springtoe, you owes us much. You better have something to pay with for your fee and our slight lateness tax. Let's see, fiftee-five plus the taxe that makes eighty gold peices. You pay now or you get draged into the sewers in a body bag where no one will miss you." A tall linger yet muscle elf said in a voice rather low and menacing for an elf.

"Uhh, eighty gold well I think that I can deal with that." The hafling took a pouch from his pack and took some money out. Then handed it to the elf who took it and emediatly counted it. He seemed satisfied and pocked a handfull of coins signaling to the small hafling thief that all was clear. The thief walked into the training facility and said to himself. "All these stupid elfen thief's can be bought with only a few coins, boy I really am a people person, err, hafling." The little one then eyed severall people in the gigantic room, a human, a few elf's, two dwarf's then settle on a hafling that was leaning against a wall. Mykael stroled up to him and said: "hey aren't you Lentan Goldfoot, the Master Thief of the foriegn quarter." Mykael didn't wait for the man to answer. "Wow, your supposed to be a really good thief, one of the best. Do you think you could train me. I have a lot of experience in the field but I need to learn more about back stabing and stuff us thiefs do. Will you, come on, I've got lot's of gold. I'll pay you two hundred, is that o.k."

The hafling, who ususally looks mean and threatening, now looked confused as the questions and comments from this unknown fellow hafling battered him. "Uhh, well, yae, I guess. For two hundred, sure." And so Mykael was now being trained by the greatest thief in all of Waterdeep other than the five thiefs who were the rulers of the guild.

Mykael learned a few neat tricks of his trade from his teacher. Some Mykael learned with ease and others he still couldn't get. By the end of the day Mykael was much better at backstabing and climbing walls but he whould have to come back the next day to learn some more. He would probably have to come back more than one day to master all the new things he had learned from Lentan.

So four days later at noon, Mykael was leaving the thiefs guild. He had, finally he thought, finished his training. He was now going to try and fing out what his magical item were. He had the dagger and the sling to check out. He headed to a sages house. He didn't now the sage himself but he had been there a few times with his dad before. His dad he though, if only he was still here. Anyway he decided not to think about his father for now and get his stuff checked out. He finally reached the destined door and knocked. He waited a few seconds and an elderly man, he looked ancient, opened the door and looked the minuscle man in front of him and said "Well hello there young Mykael. It has been a many years since we have last met. What can I do for you?"

"Wow you still remember who I am after all these years even if I was just a wee lad. You must have a really good memory." The hafling replied.

"I never forget anything, ever. Well what is it you came to do here, uhh, what's your name again?" The old (senile?) man asked.

"Hey, why did you forget my name if you never forget anything. What a jip. Anyway I have some things to get checked out, I don't know what they do." The hafling produced his two magical weapons.

"Well come in and I'll see what I can do." And so the two of them entered the old house and stayed there for a while. Finally Mykael emerged, a wide grin on his face. He had just recieved some pretty good news. His dagger was enchanted to let its bearer see through darkness as if it was day. Surely a usefull item in his line of work. Not to mention his sling that whould help its bearer aim better and get a better chance to hit targets and the like.

* *** *

Blane on his leave from the magic shop he had two things to do, go to the master temple of Tymora or either go get his newly aquired wand identified. He opted to see if his wand was anygood.

The priest walked down Book Street, the same street Majest`s shop is on, looking for a sages tower or shop. It wasn`t long before he was rewarded, a small one floor wooden building had a sign advertising a sage named Falon. Blane knocked on the door and a moment later it opened and a tall burly muscled, yet aged man stood in the door way. "Excuse me may I speak to Mr. Falon?" Blane asked coming to the conclusion that this man was a butler of some sort.

"Well you`re talking to him right now. Now what ye be want`n of me priest of wanderers." The man answered.

"Well I would like you to tell me what you think this wand does. I know it is magical but that`s it."

"What are sages for my friend, come in let us dicuss the matter further." So the two entered a rather long conversation. And after a few hours Blane left now know what his new aquired wand could do although the 'small' fee Falon charged wasn`t so charged Blane didn`t seem to care.

"Fear? Hmmm, such a wand will certainly come in handy in one situation or another." Blane mused to himself.

So the man decided it was time for lunch and stopped at an inn on his way to the temple of his Goddess. He had a small bowl of soup and a leg of lamb. After his stop he headed for the main temple of Tymora. Once there he made a rather large donation. He found the high preist and found out who he could see for some help in his studies, the training of the magic users reading big boring books one dash dwarf might say. So for the next few days Blane studied with one of the high priest`s assistant. He learned much in the way of godly magiks.

Next: Gunthor in town and Wilias wakes up.

Notes: So Mykael is an interesting character and I was able to write two pages about his time in town. While I barly wrote 3/4 of a page for humble Blane. Hmmm I wonder why.
