Aurora/Monogram Godzilla

I had several of these kits as a kid. None of them survived to today, so I had to buy and build a new one, and here it is.

I kept the glow-in-the-dark spines as a tribute to my childhood when a little testors paint for the eyes and teeth was all that was required.
I am happy to have a version of this kit that was built with the respect it deserves. Rumor has it that Polar Lights will be re-releasing this kit some time soon. If so, I will have another chance to build it and hopefully improve upon what I learned building this one.

This kit was originally released by Aurora in the Summer of 1964 and was the first Godzilla kit ever produced. Monogram acquired the original molds and re-released it in the 70's.
The model is clearly based upon the 1962 King kong vs. Godzilla version (one of my favorite G-suits). The likeness or the scale are not exact but this was the best most Godzilla fans in the west had for quite a long time.
These kits can still be found at model shows, ranging from an original issue mint-in-box Aurora (big bucks) to tattered build-ups splattered with glossy green paint.
