Grade A

Unity - Chakotay's encounter with a colony of ex-Borg drones. Provides a rationale for the creation of the Borg Collective (to fend off more powerful enemies) and includes some great characterisations for Chakotay, Janeway and the guest characters Riley and Orem.

Manoeuvres - Seska leads the Kazon-Nistrim in a raid on Voyager to gain Trensporter technology. Chakotay, taunted by her, leaves the ship without Janeway's blessing, to retrieve it.

Warlord - Kes is inhabited by the mind of an Alien warrior. S/he steals a shuttle, heads for the Alien's homeworld and becomes embroiled in a coup of the planetary government. Excellent work by Jennifer Lien highlights this surprisingly good episode.

Remember - B'Elanna Torres experiences the memory of an Enaran woman who was witness to the Genocidal practices of her people in this Holocaust allegory. This episode spurred interesting discussions, parallelling Nazi-era Germany, in the Star Trek Newsgroups.

Revulsion - is felt for 'organic' life forms by an alien holographic maintenance drone gone mad.  Meanwhile, Harry~ develops a crush on Seven of Nine.

Meld - involves Tuvok's investigation of the reasons behind violence. Brad Dourif excels as the ultra-violent Betazoid/Maquis Crewman Lon Suder.

Basics, Pt. 1 - is the Second Season cliffhanger that details Seska's successful takeover of Voyager. By combination of force, deception and espionage, she and the Kazon-Nistrim take the ship and maroon the crew on Hanon IV. All the crew, that is, except the Holodoc and the killer Lon Suder.

State of Flux - uncovers the true alliegiance of Seska. When Federation technology is discovered aboard a derelict Kazon-Nistrim raider Tuvok's investigation reveals the Bajoran Ensign is in league with the Kazon, and is really a Cardassian spy.

Distant Origin - is a theory of the Voth scientist Professor Gegen. When he proposes that his race came from outside the Delta Quadrant, and seeks Voyager as the proof, he is charged with Heresy against Doctrine, and Voyager's crew is threatened with imprisonment.

Cathexis - finds Chakotay brain dead, brought back to Voyager by Tuvok after their shuttle is attacked. Tuvok is really controlled by a Komar, and while he tries to steer the ship toward an ambush by his kind, Chakotay's mind manipulates other crew to stop him.

Tuvix - finds Neelix and Tuvok fused into one being, Tuvix, via symbiogenesis. As the crew comes to terms with the loss of two men and their affection for the new hybrid, Janeway must decide the man's fate when a means to restore Neelix and Tuvok is found.

Message in a Bottle - finds a communications link to the Alpha Quadrant.  The Holodoc transports through this link to the Prometheus, a Federation prototype... that has been captured by Romulans.

Future's End, Pt. 1 - brings Voyager to 1996 Los Angeles. A Federation representative from the 29th Century demands Janeway let him destroy the ship. When she fends off his attack both ships are sent back in time, where the 29th Century technology pollutes the timestream.

Scorpion, Pt. 2 - begins the Fourth Season as the Borg, Seven of Nine, joins the crew.  She is the liaison between the Borg and Janeway as they combat an invasion of our Continuum by Species 8472.

Grade B

Before and After - concerns Kes' experience of events from her life... backwards! A nice twist on the STrek staple of alternate realities, with interesting glimpses at the crew's future, and some fine work by all.

Worst Case Scenario - brings back Seska if only for an hour, and only as a hologramme. A security training programme written by Tuvok is coopted by Seska, and the crew's latest diversion turns deadly.

Lifesigns - finds the Holodoc in love. When a Phage-stricken Vidiian Doctor, Danara Pel, is brought aboard Voyager the EMH works to save her life. In the process his adaptive programming generates romance. The Holodoc learns about Love, and Pel learns she is lovable.

One - ex-Borg and one Holodoc must pilot Voyager through a Nebula while the crew waits out ambient radiation in stasis.  The isolation and the radiation begin to affect Seven of Nine's mind, her implants and the ship's systems.  Seven of Nine begins to hallucinate.

The Omega Directive - overrides even the Prime Directive.  When Voyager encounters a shock wave caused by an Omega Particle explosion, Janeway must rescind all other priorities and seek to destroy all traces of the particle.  Seven of Nine, however, views the particle through Borg eyes:  it is perfection.

Scientific Method - is used by aliens, invisible to our trusty crew, who have boarded Voyager to perform experiments on the personnel.

Scorpion, Part 1 - ends the 3rd Season. Janeway must make a deal with the Borg when both are threatened by the extra-Galactic Species 8472. Before the deal is struck, the aliens attack, sending Voyager to flight.

Prey - is a Species 8472, trapped in our continuum, and seeking to escape from his Hirogen pursuers.  Voyager encounters Hunters and Prey, and what Janeway decides brings her into conflict with Seven of Nine.

Waking Moments - is a superior 'dream' episode.  An alien race whose reality overlaps our dream world trap the crew in a common dream.  Chakotay, dreaming lucidly, works with the Holodoc to free the crew.

Mortal Coil - is what Neelix shuffles off.  The Talaxian dies on an away mission, and when revived by Seven of Nine realises he experienced no 'Afterlife' whilst dead.  He faces this crisis of faith with help from Chakotay.

Prototype - is a B'Elanna Torres episode. Voyager discovers a robotic lifeform, damaged and adrift, and Torres repairs it. When the robot realises Torres has the ability to repair its kind, a science lost to its people, it kidnaps her and blackmails her into creating Prototypes for a robotic war.

Dreadnought - also sees B'Elanna Torres fighting a machine. A Cardassian torpedo was reprogrammed by Torres to destroy an ammunition dump, but was also waylaid by the Caretaker to the Delta Quadrant. Now, Torres must reboard the missile and prevent it from destroying its current target: the planet Rakosa.

Displaced - members of the Voyager crew find themselves having switched places with Nyrians, who are using a translocation device to take the ship. Tuvok and Janeway lead a breakout from a Nyrian biosphere vessel.

Living Witness - is what the Holodoc becomes.  700 years after Voyager becomes involved in a planet's ethnic wars, the doctor's backup module goes on trial for the crimes of Janeway's crew.

Hunters - are the Hirogen, a Species whose culture is based on the Hunt.  They control the communications array through which Voyager is in contact with StarFleet, and they're unhappy about that contact.

Alliances - sees Voyager suffer casualties from a Kazon attack. Janeway tries to ally with the Kazon-Nistrim, entering into negotiations with Culluh and Seska. When this plan falls through Janeway meets with Kazon leaders and the Trabe, who once held the Kazon as slaves. The Trabe use the meeting as a trap, attacking the Kazon, and Voyager takes the blame.

Future's End, Pt. 2 - sees Janeway and the rest try to escape 1996 Los Angeles whilst preventing a Bill Gates-ian computer mogul from time-travelling in 29th Century technology, a trip which will destroy the Earth.

Alter Ego - finds both Harry~ Kim~ and Tuvok involved with a beautiful female Holodeck character called Marayna. When Tuvok rebuffs Marayna's advances she begins taking control of Voyager. But is she only a hologramme?

Heroes & Demons - is the original Guilty Favourite and the Holodoc's first romance. He is sent on an 'Away Mission' to rescue Harry Kim from a Holodeck adventure gone wrong.

Unforgettable - describes actress Virginia Madsen (Dune, Candyman, The Prophecy) a sci-fi Goddess.  She guest stars as a woman with whom Chakotay had a love affair.  The problem is:  she's in flight from her people, and Chakotay can't remember who she is.

Retrospect - concerns the 'violation' of Seven of Nine by an arms merchant.  Her contentions are supported by psychotherapy sessions with the Doctor... or are they?

Basics, Part 2 - resolves the Second Season cliff-hanger. Janeway and the marooned crew must survive on Hanon IV whilst the Holodoc and Lon Suder retake the ship.

Tattoo - is a Chakotay episode. A symbol discovered on a Delta Quadrant planet is similar to one used by his ancestors. Chakotay resolves a First Contact with help from his troubled past with his father and his ancestry.

The Q & the Grey - compares an internecine conflict in our favourite continuum with the United States' Civil War. Suzie Plakson plays a female Q.

Demon - refers to "Demon Class" planets.  Voyager lands on one to mine for deuterium fuel.  Harry~ and Tom Paris suffer enviro-suit failures and Chakotay and Seven of Nine must rescue them.

The Raven - appears in visions experienced by Seven of Nine.  Soon thereafter her dormant Borg Nanotech reactivates and she flees Voyager.

Blood Fever - refers to the Pon Farr, the Vulcan mating ritual. Ensign Vorik undergoes his first Pon Farr, the mate he has chosen: B'Elanna Torres.

The Chute - places Harry~ Kim~ and Tom Paris in an Akritirian jail. Janeway searches for evidence to exonerate them whilst they try to survive.

Projections - concerns a malfunction in the Emergency Medical Hologramme. Or does it? The Holodoc must decide if he's malfunctioning, or really a human, and dying.

Prime Factors - raises the possibility of a quick return home. Unfortunately the Aliens who own the technology won't trade it. Some officers, StarFleet and Maquis alike, consider trading without Janeway's permission.

Macrocosm - is an Alien/First Contact clone. Janeway stalks the ship, armed for bear, hunting an Alien invader.

Parallax - finds the first duplicate of Voyager at the Event Horizon of a Black Hole. Bad science, but a neat episode, and early character development is good.

Eye of the Needle - may have Voyager's first quick way home. A wormhole is found that leads to the Alpha Quadrant. Though small, it is stable, but leads to the Romulan Empire.

Phage - introduces the Vidiians. Suffering from the debilitating Phage, they harvest other beings' organs. Here, they start with Neelix' lungs.

The Swarm - come after Voyager when it takes a shortcut through their territory. In the meantime, the Holodoc suffers a memory failure.

Caretaker - is the Pilot episode detailing how Voyager and the Maquis arrived in the Delta Quadrant, introduces the Kazon, and sets the show in motion.

Initiations - is a Chakotay episode. Alone in a shuttle, involved in a Native American ritual, he is attacked by a Kazon youth trying to gain a Kazon name by one of their rituals.

Rise - is a Neelix-heavy episode, but don't let that dissuade you! Neelix and Tuvok have out their personality differences during an Away Mission. Trapped on a planet suffering meteor showers, they must work together.

Resolutions - strands Janeway and Chakotay, with a virus, whilst Tuvok takes Voyager homeward. The marooned pair must survive, whilst the crew tried to convince Tuvok to contact the Vidiians.

Death Wish - is the first appearance of Q on Voyager.

Parturition - resolves the love triangle between Kes, Neelix and Tom Paris, as Paris and Neelix go on an away mission to a resource-rich planet.

Deadlock - is a well-executed episode, concerning a duplicate Voyager. Some plotting and character errors keep this from being a great episode.

The Year of Hell - never happened.

Grade C

Nemesis - involves internecine warfare on an alien planet.  Chakotay, having crash-landed there, is drawn into the conflict between the Vori and the Kradin.

Time & Again - is a Time Paradox episode. Janeway and Paris are taken to a pre-catastrophe planet, and must stop a Planetary disaster before it happens. Or should they?

Elogium - is an Ocampan term referring to the mating time of Kes' species. Kes and Neelix must decide whether or not to conceive, since Elogium occurs only once.

The Gift - is from Kes.  The Ocampa crewmember evolves into a higher life form, exhibiting mental powers and becoming physically unstable.  Her last act is to fling Voyager closer to home.

Innocence - hangs on a silly premise: backwards ageing. Tuvok must protect three children, crash-landed on a moon, from their people, who are hunting them.

Vis à Vis - is about Tom Paris' discomfort aboard Voyager.  When a shapeshifting alien takes his body and his place aboard sihp, Paris comes to realise the value of what he has.

Concerning Flight - actually concerns the adventures of the Leonardo da Vinci holocharacter.  He, along with several pieces of Voyager's technology, is stolen by techno-thieves.

Favourite Son - finds Harry~ Kim~ seeded with alien DNA and compelled to return to the alien planet, a planet populated almost entirely by beautiful women.

Day of Honour - might as well be 'Day of Pains in the Ass' for B'Elanna Torres.  Things go awry, one after the other, and she and Tom Paris are stranded in Space.

Coda - involves Janeway's near-death experience, after being shot down by Vidiians on an alien planet. During the experience, her father appears.

Emanations - are levels of 'being' to the Uhnori, a people to whose planet Harry Kim is taken by a strange phenomenon. The episode's major themes have to do with life-beyond-death.

The Cloud - is a life-form that Voyager initially takes for a nebula. The ship's passage damages the Cloud, and Janeway must avoid the entity's defenses and repair the damage done.

Random Thoughts - get B'Elanna Torres into trouble when her aggressive nature causes murder among a race of telepaths.

Flashback - brings Captain Sulu to Voyager in an episode that investigates events that take place during STVI:TUC. It seems Tuvok was a member of Sulu's Excelsior crew.

Investigations - resolves the Michael Jonas traitor story, as Tom Paris is kidnapped by the Kazon-Nistrim, and Neelix branches his morning talk show into an investigative journalist work.

Cold Fire - discovers another Array, more Ocampa, and Susperia, the mate of the Caretaker. Kes begins to excercise her powers, and Susperia seeks revenge on Voyager for her mate's death.

Ex Post Facto - is Voyager's attempt at Agatha Christie. Tom Paris has apparently committed murder, and for punishment must relive the victim's death... from the victim's viewpoint.

Persistence of Vision - is an episode in which the crew begin to experience hallucinations. The experience renders tham catatonic, except for Kes and the Holodoc, who must remedy things before the ship is helpless.

The Thaw - is a twist on Stephen King's IT. Harry~ and B'Elanna must face down Fear, in the guise of a clown, to free a planet of people from cryogenic suspension.

Fair Trade - is a Neelix episode, exploring his past, and teaching lessons about lies and drugs: they're bad.

Faces - splits B'Elanna into two people: K'Lingonna and H'Umanna. Klingon DNA is resistant to the Phage, and the Vidiians experiment on Torres in hopes for a cure.

Resistance - reunites Kate Mulgrew with Joel Grey, her costar in "Remo Williams". Bad idea. Lots of overacting doesn't get overlooked because of some good StarFleet Fu.

Real Life - is the idea of a Holofamily simulation run by the 'doc and tweaked by B'Elanna Torres. Meanwhile, Paris explores an Astral Eddy.

False Profits - revisits the Ferengi, Aridhor and Kol, that were stranded by the Barzan wormhole in TNG. They rule a planet by usurping the local legends, and Voyager must bring them into line.

Grade D

Jetrel - leans on us feeling sympathy for Neelix, whose family died in a Metreon Cascade attack by Mabor Jetrel's people. Too bad Neelix wasn't on Rinax when it happened.

Darkling - is the "Enemy Within" the Holodoc. When subroutines modelled on great historical personages go awry, the H-doc does some nasty things.

The Killing Game - is played out by the Hirogen, who have captured Voyager and the crew, in holodeck simulations of a Klingon civil war and (a woefully inaccurate) WWII France.

Learning Curve - demonstrates that Tuvok, who taught at StarFleet Academy, is an awful mentor. Anyone from StarFleet who studied under him is to be avoided.

Sacred Ground - has Janeway undergoing some silly rituals from some ridiculously evasive and vague characters in order to save Kes from catatonia. You may go catatonic watching this.

'37s - kicked off the Second Season, and should have been aired, as was intended, during Season One. People from 1937 Earth, including Amelia Earhart, were kidnapped by Aliens. Voyager finds them.

Non-Sequitur - is Harry Kim on an alternate timeline, where he is reunited with his lover, Libby. Despite the benefits of this, he seeks return to the timeline where he is aboard Voyager.

Twisted - has an Alien phenomenon encircling the ship. As the crew is forced to congregate in the Holodeck, they face certain death together.

Threshold - won an Emmy for makeup, and should have won a Raspberry for everything else. Paris, after reaching Warp 10, transforms into a lizard... or something.
