I must apologize for not having gotten word to you sooner. Starbase 2 has been having problems with its computer and all files were lost. As a result I am having to try to piece things back together as best I can. Now on to the news.

Region 2 now has a dedicated phone line for the computer and fax line. The number is (404) 294-1567. You should call my home line at (404) 294-1009 to check that the computer is up. If demand for a 24 access warrants it we will then make it a 24 hour line.

Shortly the election of the new CS STARFLEET will be announced. With that will be the new EC. I urge each chapter to hold off on sending ANY correspondence or memberships until the next administration takes office and and sets up shop. My guess no sooner than Jan 10. I also urge that each chapter support the new administration and give them time to get the materials from the previous administration and sort through it. We need to unify behind whoever wins and give them our full support whether you voted forthem or not. We are all in this together and they have taken on a difficult task which I do not envy them.

Another important subject is CQ's. I recently received a 70+ lb shipment of over 400 CQ's from June/July for distribution to the Region. I'll be honest with you, I don't have the $400+ in postage to mail this and the Region doesn't either. I am open to suggestions from each chapter on how you want me to send the CQ's to you. I have contacted chapters in Alabama and Mississippi on a possible pick-up and redistribution to the chapters, but Florida presents its own special problems with its layout and number of members. Most online chapters have indicated they wish either only one copy be sent to the chapter or to just wait until the Summit and have members pick them up there. I will try to accomodate whatever each chapter desires if possible. Please write or email me at [email protected] with your suggestion for your chapter. Or if you have an idea that is feasible for the Region I would like to hear it. Word on later CQ's is forthcoming I hope. I expect we'll be getting alot of answers in the next month.

With the passing of Christmas I am off on my annual vacation and will be out of town from 12/26 until 1/18/97. My Chief of Staff Mike Henigan will be available to receive calls and mail while I am out of town and will forward any critical messages to me as needed.

Sunny Summit is fast approaching and all those wish to attend need to make their reservations soon. Reservation deadline is January 31 to get the Summit prices. Included in this Monthly Memo is a copy of the Summit application on plain white paper. Please make copies and distribute to all your members. We need a application for EACH member so we can ensure we have everyone listed. The new Fleet Admiral will be in attendance to answer all your questions, there will be workshops on fund raising, how to write your by-laws to cover almost every contingency, the annual Region 2 Awards and fun, fun fun. Your full membership covers almost all activities so please sign up today! One final note on the Summit, the application enclosed the correct date for the Summit which is March 7-9, not the 6-8 listed on the old application

And speaking of the Region 2 Summit. As you know we give the Annual Region 2 Awards at Sunny Summit. All submissions need to be in soon. Please check your packet that Barbara Paul sent each of you. If you have lost this information or need more you can contact her at [email protected]. You can't win if you don't submit!! Zone 4 stole the spotlight last year, and I want to see them have a run for their money. Send in your submissions with appropriate documentation as soon as possible.

Region 2 Merchandise for Sale. Region 2 is now offering embroidered polo shirts, hats and satin jackets for sale. The polo shirts are royal blue mesh knit which is cool in summer. It has come to my attention lately that many chapters do not have a clause in their by-laws for the possible removal of the CO should circumstances require it. As a result chaos can consume a chapter in trying to resolve a difficult situation and outside mediation must be sought. STARFLEET constitution stipulates the CO leads at the discretion of the members. It is imperative that if you do not already have a clause in your by-laws you do so now. We can not complain about the difficulty of removing a CS for cause if we don't even plan for the possibility ourselves.
