Howdy from Region 2 HQ and Post-Olympic Central. These past few months have been an experience I shall never forget. For those of you who had some experience with the Olympics be it the Torch Run or an event in your home town, send an article to Joe Colanero for inclusion in the next R2 Update.
Now its time to get back to work. I would like to thank everyone's patience during the delays in getting a response. This issue is chock full of info, so read carefully and spread the news.
Though not official, Lynn Evans has been appointed the new STARFLEET Stampede Coordinator. Her address is 1318 Garber St., Richmond, VA 23231. Her phone is (804) 222-9398. So if you have been saving those stamps, send them to her. You do not have to sort the stamps any longer. Charities selected to benefit from the Stampede are: National Kidney Foundation, UNESCO, Red Cross and the Presiding Bishop's Fund for World Hunger Relief. These charities have been approved by SFHQ. For those who might still want some of the Stampede shirts, you can still contact Gail Rushing while supplies last. They are $8 and the funds go to charities.
Well it has happened. Four CO's were removed for failure to report. USS Continuum, USS Encounter, USS Starquest, USS Millennium. The CO's of the Encounter and Millennium were reelected to office. Should they miss three move MSR's the chapter will be decommissioned. I warned you that if you didn't report, your chapter would face dire consequences. So, please, please report on time. Follow the schedule your Zone Coordinator has requested. As a fall back, send a copy to me in case your ZC doesn't get his due to the efficiency of the USPS.
VAdm Deborah Maestu has stepped down as VFA effective immediately. Her personal life has made her effect use impossible among other things. As of 8/15 Coyote has been appointed VFA. Her address is: P.O. Box 411793, Kansas City, MO 64141-1793. Please address all questions you had for Deborah to Coyote.
The election of STARFLEET's Commander STARFLEET, is fast approaching. As of this writing, I have confirmed information that Coyote, Mike Smith, Sean Boyd and Betsy Matteis are all running. I also understand that Dan McGinnis will NOT be running, but this is not confirmed. VAdm Doug Glenn has already hired the services of a CPA to print ballots/platforms, mail and receive and tally the ballots. Ballots will NOT go out with the CQ. All ballots will be sent First Class mail. Doug will be contacting confirmed candidates Sept 1. Stay tuned for more info.

Hear ye, Hear ye, the IC hotel has changed. The new hotel is the LaQunita Inn. Their phone number is 1-800-642-4239. Hit option 3 for Block Reservations and tell them your with STARFLEET. I'm sorry but I don't have the room rates at this time. However, from what I have heard it is lower than the previous hotel.
The 96 IC is fast approaching and I am in a dilemma. I don't have the funds to pay for my hotel room. The primary reason I am attending is to represent Region 2. RAdm Henigan sent out a plea via the Region 2 Listserv asking what the Region thought of loaning me the money for the IC from the Regional treasury to be paid back over the next few months at my request. I am asking you, the chapters who are not online for your approval of the use of Region 2 funds. A contract will be written up and signed by me to document the debt owed. Please contact me as soon as possible with your decision. Thank you.
I want to announce that Region 2 HQ has STARFLEET Academy vouchers available for sale to chapters. I have a limited supply so please be patient if you don't hear from me, I will reorder as needed. Send a check payable to STARFLEET-REGION 2, and a SASE for return of the vouchers.
ZC 4 FCapt J. Michael Long has resigned as ZC 4 and Senior VRC. Due to a major change in his work he no longer had the time to devote to the Zone or the Region. I am saddened by his leaving, but as well all know, the real world takes precedence. The position of ZC 4 is now available and open to all CO's of full chapters in Zone 4. I look forward to hearing from you and bringing Zone 4 back into action again soon.
I have included a flyer for the 30th Anniversary Con in Huntsville, Alabama. For those of you who can afford it, It is going to be something else. There will also be a Vulkon in St. Pete the same weekend. I will try to attend it as finances and time allow. I also have a new listing for the Orphan Members of Region 2. If you want a copy of either the labels or the Orphan list please send me a SASE and I will be happy to forward you a copy.
Please contact me if you have any other questions or need help that your Zone coordinator can't help you with. Remember, we're Region 2, Second to None!
