Anytime

I can't remember why we fell apart
From something that was so meant to be
Forever was the promise in our hearts
Now more and more I wonder where you are
~ "Anytime" by Brian McKnight

The house was so quiet, except for the crackling of the lit fireplace. Bruce's blue eyes wandered from the dusty bookshelves,to the grandfather clock with the live bat inside it. He smirked lightly.

"Old habits never die." He said to himself.

The den was the place where Bruce went to think, and to have some peace and quiet. Even though now,he could do that in any room in the mansion.

Sitting quietly in a chair, he looked down at the framed picture in his hands. A familiar ache of loneliness stirred in his heart. It has been about 30 years since he last spoke with Dick Grayson, but Bruce was too damned stubborn. Too stubborn to pick up the phone and give him a call, and too stubborn to admit his own feelings.

He remembered the softness of Dick's lips, the look of laughter in his eyes, and the sound of his voice. Everything from the sound of his footsteps,to the way he walked into a room.

Bruce missed it all. He even missed their arguments.

The black and white photo of Bruce at black-tie event. Bruce and Dick looked handsome in their matching black tuxedos, while Barbara took the picture candidly. Bruce and Dick were standing next to each other, with a surprised look on both of their faces.

Bruce put the picture down onto the small table next to the chair. The first kiss was definitely the sweetest,if not awkwardest moment between the two men. At the mansion Bruce and Dick,or Batman and Robin were in an argument of whether or not Dick would go into the city with him the next day. Dick was almost killed the night ealier, and Bruce didn't want to risk anything.

"You never let me do anything on my own,Bruce. You know that you can trust me!" Dick yelled and crossed his arms.

"I CAN trust you,and I do. But,it's just too dangerous, and you almost got killed. No risk-taking tonight."

"It's supposed to be dangerous!! We're supposed to risk our lives to save others and you alwa-"

Bruce grabbed the back of Dick's neck, and Dick's eyes widened. Bruce lowered his head and brushed his lips against the younger man's. Dick froze, but he left himself get lost in the feeling.

Nails scraped lightly down his tanned but muscular back, and legs wrapped around his waist.. Skin on skin, mouth on mouth.

Dick's face, beading with sweat. The euphoric look in his blue-green eyes. Dick writhering beneath him, moaning. It was all beautiful. It was all his. The memory of that night fading, but thankfully it wasn't forgotten. But the memory of Dick's leaving was burned into his brain, and like a movie,it played over and over again.

"I wonder what he's doing." Bruce thought to himself. Just maybe Dick was thinking the same thing about him. He loved Dick, and Dick loved him. But damned if Bruce could admit that. To himself,or to Dick Did Bruce hide away what he felt? Did he hide away what he felt for Dick, from Dick? Did he also hide it away from everyone else? Yes. If he wanted to,he could have came back to Bruce. He could have called,or visited. But then again,Dick could have, too.

They were both being stubborn. Both men waiting for the other to make the first move.

Almost like old times.

"30 years." Bruce said softly. His deep voice made it seem louder, but he tried to say it as quietly as possible, even if no one else was in the room.

Even if no one else was inside the building.

He was tired of feeling alone in the house. When he went out,he was surrounded by people, but when he went home, silence. Years ago he craved quietness, but he didn't want it now.

He knew what he wanted, and he knew who he wanted.

Bruce did the first thing that came to his mind. He reached over, and picked up the phone.
