FD - Reply to: [email protected] - 10 Aug 00 - re jersey city fire - the captain (no lieut's anymore) retains the designation "engine 5", "ladder 6" etc on his portable - eng's usually have 3 portables - 1 for officer - 1 for chauffer and 1 for a ff - the 3rd ff usually doesn't have a portable - ladder co's have 3 portables as well - rescue and squad have portables for each member - rescue 1+4   sq 1+3or 4

i've heard both base to base and base to mobile traffic on the on 470.5125

Jersey City Radio Test - heard online - 10 August 00 - dispatcher says "go ahead Engine 2" - then replies are heard - each is preceeded by a quick honk - "Engine Company 2", "Engine Company 2 Alpha", "Engine Company 2 Bravo", "Engine Company 2 Charlie" - sometimes they say "no officer" and either "Engine 2" or "Engine 2 Alpha" will be omitted - also heard - Tower Ladder 4 + Tower Ladder 4 Alpha + Tower Ladder 4 Bravo + Tower Ladder 4 Charlie - etc.
