New Jersey State Police - there is a list dedicated to the NJSP TRS at [email protected] (42 subrscribers as of May 2001). There was a note on ?firerad2 in 2002 explaining that the TRS was a funky Type 11I

2001 - the TRS is being updated and dispatch centers are merging. State Police cars are losing their overhead emergency flashers and going stealthy. Small white radomes on top hold the radio antenna. GPS is being implemented in the cars (see the nnj-scan list in May 2001 for more info)

Subject: [nnj-scan] ?Jersey FD Radio Test?

Can anyone tell me if Jersey City Fire Department ever runs a radio test? I listened via the Net yesterday around 8AM but I didnt hear anything. Thanks alot - Peter S (Also - does anyone hear anything on the Hudson County fire mutual aid freq of ?453.55 or the Essex County fire mutual aid freq of ?470.4125?)

Jersey City Police and Fire radio audio is online at ?njlive.com - August 00 - http://www.nj.com/live/ (May 2001) - they also have Email alerts

Paramedics in Essex County are dispatched by different dispatch centers. A few units are dispatched by REMCS on 155.295 (PL 85.4), and 155.400 (PL 127.3). Cencom dispatches some of the units on 155.355 (PL 186.2). I would also monitor Miccom on 155.175 (PL 100.0), but think that most of their units are Passaic/Bergen County based. But, do respond to Essex due to close proximity. - 25Nov00

2001 - REMS has radio feed on their website

Misc Info

from [email protected] - July 2000 - In New Jersey 155.340 (HEAR channel) and 155.280 (Statewide EMS) are mandatory freqs for all Ambulances, Paid, Volunteer and Commercial Basic Life Support (BLS) units. EMS units that are not on a VHF system, usually have a separate VHF radios with hospital encoder. Some units have the VHF freqs patched through there primary system. This puts the unit at a disadvantage if they are transporting or assisting outside the systems coverage area. Advance Life Support (ALS) or Paramedic units are required to have the 10 channel UHF med channels even if they communicate to there medical control by other means, i.e. cellular.

-----------------------------------------------

February 2001 from nnj-scan Email list - JEMS 3 155.280 is designated as a statewide disaster channel, there is no pl designated for that channel. JEMS 2 155.340, the designated hospital (HEAR) channel, is either set up as CS [carrier squelch = no CTCSS = no PL] with a DTMF pad to contact the requested hospital, or they may have the individual PL's programed in the radio for area hospitals.

Some older Motorola radios still in use use a add-on to the radio that changes the pl tone with a push of a button. (I forget what the term is for that device - [?encoder]) Some even older radios still in service utilize a dialer instead of a DTMF pad to contact the requested hospital. [IIRC - that would be the "C-Code" system where the spinner/dialer interupts at constant tone with rythmic pulses] There is no one code that would open all hospitals.

A copy of all the hospital codes in NJ is available on the NJ Dept of Health web site, you can access through the NJ State First Aid Council site http://www.njsfac.org [possibly not really there - Feb 01]

The only channels that are utilized statewide for multi jurisdictional coms and has a designated pl are the SPEN channels using 131.8. [?153.785 + ?155.475 + ?154.68 + ?155.37]

-----------------------------------------------

Misc Info - Highway Call Boxes - July 2000 - from [email protected] - You can hear the call boxes when you listen to the NJSP trunk system in conventional scan mode. I think I recall hearing them on trunk tracker mode with id in the 59xx range but not positive. I must admit that the boxes fail alot & too many people stop to use them for personal phone calls. The radio @ work is not a tracker so I get to hear them everyday. [the call boxes are on I80 + I280]

-----------------------------------------------

N NJ MICU Radio - October 2000

Most of the Begen/Passaic CO units are dispatched by MICCOM on 155.175 PL 100.0. Most of the Sussex/Morris/Warren CO units are dispatched by CENCOM on 155.265 PL 192.8 (Known as Cencom 2). Many units in Essex Co are dispatched by REMCS. Some are paged out on Channel 5 (155.295 PL 85.4), and others are just assigned on Ch #1 (155.400 PL 127.3). Also, monitor their Ch #6 (155.100 PL 107.2) - used for major incidents. (Channels 2, 3, and 4 should be JEMS 2 [155.340], 3 [155.280] and 4 [153.785], respectively)

Units for remaining parts of Essex and Union CO are dispatched by CENCOM on 155.355 PL 186.2. (Known as Cencom 1) This was effective about July 1996. They used to use 155.175 PL 85.4, but moved off of it due to MICCOM being on the same channel. They still have this in their console, and it is known as Cencom #3.
