Public Safety Dispatch - I think that there is a long history of using the Sheriffs Office as the Countywide dispatch center for police operations. However (as of ?1985), the State Fire Marshall's Office told me that very few regional fire dispatch centers existed in Indiana. Perhaps the 1990s saw the formation of more countywide 911 dispatch centers and this possibly resulted in the regionalization of more FD dispatch systems. FCC licensing has placed most FDs in each county on the same primary radio channel. Most PDs in IN historically operated on 155.13 Base Xmit + 155.?? Mobile Xmit. (Plan A system) EMS dispatch is probably done by hospitals, amb services, and some FDs and SOs.

EMS Radio Info - from fireradio@onelist.com - July 2000 - Here in Indiana, 155.34 is mandated by state statute to be installed in every ambulance and every hospital emergency room (hospitals are "typed" according to services they provide; the statute specifies the "type" but I don't recall what it is). Each ambulance is required to have at least a two-channel radio: one channel for dispatch, the other 155.34. Now, even though 155.34 is required, there is nothing that REQUIRES 155.34 to be USED for ambulance-to-hospital comms. Aside from the 463 MED channels, some areas use cellular phones for ambulance-to-hospital comms, including telemetry in some cases (where telemetry is still used, which is rare these days).
