Lady Dawn of Dundee

Whilst other girls of her age were at the cinema or the youth club, Dawn was with her father either in the great wrestling halls of Scotland or down at the local gymnasium training with the TV names of wrestling, dreaming that one day she too, like her father, could go into the ring.

Dawn is the daughter of the Scottish featherweight champion, Dave Kearnday and was brought up in a professional wrestling home.

After several years as an aspiring hopeful, Dawn's big chance came when the local Dundee promotions, Dunscot Promotions of Dundee, applied successfully to join the British Wrestling Alliance. Soon after its entry into the BWA, Dunscot introduced Lady Dawn to her first experience in the professional ring. Her first bought was a gruelling eight rounder against the reigning BWA ladies champion, Miss Sue Brittain, held at the Memorial Hall in Cupar, Fife. Dawn put up a great resistance but went down two nil in the fifth round.

Though decisively beaten it was obvious from that night that Dawn had a promising future in the ring. She was seen very often all around the North East of Scotland and eventually took part and won an eliminating contest for the title, B.W.A. Scottish Area Ladies Champion. The opposition included such stalwarts as Lynne Carr, Jane Campbell, Vicky Montrose and the other girls working in that area. After a long and successful tenure of the title, in 1981 following the sudden retirement of the champion Miss Sue Brittain, Dawn was invited to take part in the eliminating contests for the vacant national title. Lady Dawn eventually won the vacant title and was thus acclaimed as the official BWA Ladies Champion of Great britain. This title she held undefeated until 1985 when the finally succumbed to the Manchester based Terri Kruger. She retired soon, after following a great career deservedly crowned with a period as British champion.

A clean scientific style of wrestling was her trademark though when necessary she could show a nasty side. Her favourite moves were weakeners like the back hammer and the Boston crab.

She enjoyed mixed tag matches and also took part in many girls tag teams matches.
