Oral History
The latest oral history to join the collection at the Local History Room of the City of Tea Tree Library, is that of Mrs Jean McEwin (nee Hughes)and her nephew Dennis Goudie (Dawes). (See photo at lower right)

Mrs McEwin and Mr Goudie are members of the Hughes family who occupied the building now known as the Highercombe Museum (originally the Highercombe Hotel) and run by the National Trust.

Members of the Historical Society - Helen Harris and Carole Simmonds - undertook the oral history of Mrs McEwin as part of the ongoing oral history of the area, and in conjunction with Jill Pearson of the National Trust.

Jean and Dennis talked about living in the Highercombe Hotel and the history of the house and people of the area. They gave examples of everyday life and some of the more colourful characters from the early 1930's and up to Dennis' time in the 1960's.

This oral history was captured on video and will be kept in the Library for viewing.

PLEASE NOTE:

Further information regarding this oral history, plus tapes and transcriptions of other Oral Histories are available to the public, via the City of Tea Tree Gully Library Local History Room.
